Why Gun Control is a Bad Idea

The world is full of many dangers and here we will address one of them. Imagine if you were stuck in a heist, where criminals have the guns pointed at your head. In one quick motion, with a finger pressed into the trigger, you could lose your life. However, what if you reimagine the situation with a few citizens who are armed? Whether they are conceal-carriers, or have it open-carry, they could defend themselves and the others against the criminals. This is what many do not consider. Although guns are misused and are used against another human being, without guns we are only victimized in many different ways. We have no way to defend ourselves as quickly as we could with our own source of guns. Guns are tools, just like cars and hammers and axes and so forth. Some argue that guns have no use other than to cause harm and destruction. Although that is true, as we use them for sport in hunting and to cause harm but in a protective way, guns were never intended to murder others seemingly for the sport of it. Guns are made by the militia and the people for defensive purposes. However, some get their minds wrapped around it the wrong way, and they turn to darkness and abuse the ability of guns for wicked reasons. If the government were to ban the usage of guns, surely this evil usage of guns will not stop; instead, it will invite homicide, the deaths of many, as we will be unable to stop any criminals with guns like we would used to be able to do. As Thomas Jefferson once said, “The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” The law of gun-control will not stop anyone but those who still listen to the laws that the government has laid upon us. Criminals will not listen to these laws. Those who intend to harm others will see gun-control laws as advantages to victimize people easier. Truly, we have police forces, trained and armed, but they will take time to reach the desired area where the criminal(s) and people stay, and by then, it may be too late to save them. Unfortunately, the world is not perfect, yet many people seem to try to make it so. If it were perfect, the violence we’ve endured in this country would never have happened, nor anything else. These kinds of people view the gun almost as if it were a disgraceful sin come to tear our lives apart. Once again, the gun is only a misused item, as well as the cars (which cause more deaths a year than guns), alcohol, and many more items. If we wanted to make it where violence could no longer exist through use of items, maybe we should take a step back and think about who uses the items, and how they’re used. If guns are sources of death, used for suicide, murder, etc., and they are being banned, shouldn’t alcohol, medicines/drugs, etc. also be banned? Those things are used for suicide and sometimes can be murderous weapons as well. The thing is, even if we have guns outlawed that doesn’t make it any safer. People will get their hands on anything and everything to hurt others. Even if we have guns outlawed, it will only make it more dangerous for us. The Second Amendment gives us a freedom to be able to use our guns, but the government is trying to change that. Indeed, many argue that at first when it was written, it was intended only for militia. But George Mason, who is considered also a father of the United States’ Bill of Rights, said that the militia now consisted of the people, which we know means the citizens of the United States. Yet, the government tries to fight against the Second Amendment instead, and tries to brainwash the citizens to agree to the laws of gun-control. Thomas Jefferson, once more, said, “The two enemies of the people are the criminals and the government, so let us tie down the second with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become a legalized version of the first.” They use the law of gun-control for their own ability so that the future government of tyranny cannot be stopped, and they will use our own guns against us. To be disarmed and without guns is like sheep in a wolf’s den. It is a danger in the eyes of some of us, while others are astray and consider not this view. If we can repeal gun-control laws, we can save so much more trouble and be safer. We may have either a dangerous freedom, or a peaceful slavery under those who could kill us without much to stop them. It is just ours to choose.
