Why I Chose To Go To College

...Everyone has different reasons on why they choose to go to college, personally ever since I was young I had always seen myself going to college. I always had that determination to receive a higher education then just high school and attain a job that would exceed what my family members had. Growing up my father and everyone I saw around me would work in the fields which is a honest job, but I never wanted to go there to wake up to cold mornings at 5am, to work in the middle of the hot sun at 12pm, and go home at 5pm and receive a check that would still put you in a poverty level of income. I wanted to be more than that and I knew the only way that could happen was if I got a degree. With that I also wanted to give myself the opportunity my...

Why College Education Is Important to Me

...Why college education is important to me Why college education is important to me. “You ask” College education is important to me, because it is a step closer to being the person that I want to be. It is a future for myself, my husband, and my children. I chose to go back to school, (at the age of 34) because I want more out of life. I want to be a better mother and wife, a better person in general. I want to be someone my children can look up too, and say I want to be like you mommy. I want a career! I chose to pursue Psychology as my career, because I have always had an interest in human behavior. I want to learn more about mental functions like memory, creativity, imagination, and so much more. One of the functions that intrigues me the most is brain function. I want to be able to understand why and how it functions the way that it does. I want to understand how one’s mind is different from the other. I want to understand how siblings who have the same biological parents. Can show signs of different mental and behavioral functions. How one child can show signs of anger and shyness? While the other one shows signs of A.D.H.D and mood swings. How can children be so opposite, but yet be so much alike. What intrigues them about each other? How can their social behavior be so different? Like one would show signs of aggression, and one show signs of shyness. I want to learn more about social behavior and what makes it stand out. I want to learn more about...

Why People Go To College Research Paper

...Why do we go to college? Going to college is one of the biggest choices someone could make in their life. There are many reasons why people go to college and some those reasons can also be why they choose not to go to college. These factors include geography, getting a higher education, parents and peers. These play a huge role in decision making. To find out the answers i interviewed recent college graduate at New Paltz,Djiby Ousmane. Location plays an important part in college decisions, because u have to decide where you want to go to college, either stay in your home state, upstate or out of state. All of these depends on how focus you really want to be while in college, also to experience a different environment. Djiby chose to go to New paltz “to escape from the city and try something different” many do the same for the same reasons, however some people won’t do that because of financial constraints. The National Association for college admissions posted by the New York Times states, “the education level, income and travel experience of parents are the easiest ways to determine how far away a student is willing to go to college”...

Differences Between Adn and Bsn

...How do competencies vary between ADN and BSN? March 25, 2015   How do competencies vary between ADN and BSN? I am very proud of my accomplishment of obtaining my license as a Registered Nurse as this was my lifelong dream. I chose a very common route to achieve this, through a community college. This program offered a low cost and rather short timeframe to reach my goal of becoming a RN. The ADN program was rumored to be one of the best in Wisconsin so I chose it, with plans of pursuing my BSN right after I graduated. Unfortunately, like most get their ADN, this just doesn’t happen. A person gets a nursing job and deals with work, life and family stressors, who needs to go back to school for a BSN? A BSN does not generally pay better, the job description is the same for both degrees, why would one possible waste their time? During my first class at the community college, the students were told that the ADN graduates generally performed higher on their NCLEX exams than did the BSN graduates. Another point taught was that this ADN degree was more desirable to perspective employers because ADN’s had greater clinical skills and got hired faster. This information seemed to be true, I was hired at a desirable facility and so began my career as an ADN. My career was going great, I was living my dream, having everything I always wanted. Then policies changed, nurses could no longer hold management positions unless they returned to school to earn their BSN. ...

People face a wide range of opportunities every day, as well as certain challenges supporting this process, and the most difficult thing in the life of a person finishing school is to become enrolled in college of his or her dream. The decision-making process may become challenging for people due to the lack of structure and entail risk, uncertainly and conflict ( Managerial Decision Making, Chapter 3 pg 87). That is why people trying to make some important personal or professional decisions should have some appropriate model to follow in order to avoid such challenges. In the text, there are six steps or stages of decision-making process which may be attached to any problem or decision. First, it is important to identify and analyze the problem. My problem was the enrolling in college, as I wanted to enter a good college to build my future professional career. It was a tough decision to make because I was not sure if I am taking the right decision. In order to take this decision, I analyze my past, present, and future implications and experiences helping to make the right choice. I looked at the choices I made in the past and how I would do them differently with this enrollment. I took into consideration not only my preferences and ideas, but also opinions of my parents and relatives. I had to evaluate my alternatives for...

Why College Education Is Important to Me

...Andrea Scharen EN110.6.4 “Why College Education is important to me?” College education to me holds the key to a successful career and a brighter future. I chose to go to college right out of high school because I knew I wanted a future in what I love and I already knew what I had to plans to do. I also knew that I couldn’t do what I wanted to do without a college education. I believe without a college education you can only really get a basic job. With a college education, you are more likely to become financially stable in the long run. Having a college or higher education can also equip a person with better life skills and improves an individual’s quality of life. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to work with children. As I got older I figured out that I wanted to be a teacher. As I hit high school I contemplated even going to college because I was told you can be a basic pre-school teacher without a college education. Though I did not want to just be a basic teacher and I took into consideration that later in life I might want to teach a little older. So I decided a college education was important to have so I can do what I planned. Without a college education you are limited to a basic job. Although with a high school education you may secure a job with good benefits but even that is limited to jobs in service, manufacturing, and construction industries. The argument to that statement is with a college education you can enter a higher level career with a greater...

College

...Why College: Why college, why go to college? I feel that is one of the most asked question amongst college students, whether it’s talking about, why they choose the college they choose, or why go all together, it’s asked. I for one ask myself that sometimes throughout the school year; it’s almost a reminder of why I am in enrolled in college today. I’m attending St Cloud State University as a freshman to get my masters in Elementary Education to become a first grade teacher. I chose this school because I knew someone who went into the education program and didn’t have a bad thing to say about it. In order for me to achieve the goal of becoming a teacher I have to go to four year college. Without any type of degree the most I could become would be working at daycare/preschool making on average of eight dollars an hour which would have me fall along the lines of US Census Bureau stating that if you have an high school diploma on average you will make $1,936 per month verse if you attend college an receive your bachelor’s degree you can make an average of $3,804 per month. With teaching your overall salary depends on your degree and how many years you have been teaching. If I just get my bachelor’s degree and I’m in the first step I can make on average $47,379 a year and if I get my master I can make on average of $50,076 per year. With that if I continue to get my Ph.D or Ed.D I can receive an extra $2,000 dollars to yearly salary. Along with the salary increasing over the amount...

The Value of Education

...The Value of Education In her essay “College is a Waste of Time and Money,” author Caroline Bird postulates monetary and social reasoning for why obtaining a college degree is a waste for many students. According to Bird, college has a miniscule value and effect on people and society, and is indeed a waste of time and money. She suggests many students are only in pursuit of a higher education because they lack societal value and purpose after graduating high school, resulting in them feeling obligated to go to college in hopes of obtaining structure and a high paying job. Unlike Bird, I believe a college degree holds a lifetime of abundant benefits. It is our duty as a society to push the value and credibility of higher education, as it can open many doors one couldn’t possibly achieve without some sort of earned credibility or degree. In “College is a Waste of Time and Money,” Bird tells us while lecturing across US college campuses, she came to realize that many students aren’t in school because they want to learn, but more so because they felt obligated to attend since they are not highly valued in our society. She suggests young adults go to college for several different reasons; some may go with a genuine interest in learning, some may go in order to get away from home, yet still be supported by their parents and taxpayers, but most go because it’s the ‘normal’ thing to do. For the most part, I agree that young people go to college because it is what is expected of them...

Life Changing

...an ample amount of diverse experiences while being considered a college student? The word diversity has a different meaning to every single individual but, it may be considered as a variety for the purpose of this paper; or the opposite of monotony. When students attend a university or college campus that encourages diversity it pushes them to go through these diverse experiences that may help change their lives in an array of different ways. Diverse experiences could consist of something as simple as joining a club you never would have thought you’d join or making a bolder choice like taking a trip to another country with the study abroad programs provided by higher education. It is important to keep in mind that although it takes will and a certain mindset to throw yourself at experiences like these, it may not be as hard as one may think. When students chose a higher education school they typically like to see that their future campus will be a diverse one, because the benefits that come with that type of environment are tremendous for college students. There is an article that was published in The Philadelphia Inquirer about the specific views of students and how they feel about the role diversity plays on their individual campus experience and the overall impact diversity had on them throughout college. The diversity generates a better classroom discussion, students say. Jillian Smith, a Dickinson College sophomore, said her courses on urban issues were better served by...
