Cell Phones Are Good
Re: “Why I hate Cell Phones,” written by Sarah Reihani
It is true that with cell phones you get distracted from doing work or get caught up on a conversation and don’t focus on things that need to be done. This is something I can agree with. Even thought it might not always seem like having a phone is a good thing, in the end it always best to have a phone with you at all time.
Today cell phones are a great technology and an essential tool for everyone that goes anywhere outside their houses. Cell phones are not only a distraction throughout media but they help a wide world generation stay on top of good news. Also cell phones now a days have GPS capabilities as long as you have signal you can know exactly where you are

Black Friday Consumerisms

...Professor Pilaro English 101 My Reading Response Ellen Degeneres’ essay is speaking thoughtful and honest opinions. I loved how she shared her frustrations with modern living technology, and her funny bathroom run ins with the automatic toilet. She made it clear that she hates what technology has done, and how it affected the world. I guess she seems to have liked the 60’s more than now. I do agree with a few things she mentioned like the certain things they’re coming up with that we don’t need, and how cell phones are ruining people. But from what I've read in her essay she complains a lot. I don’t think that today technology is that bad as she makes it sound. Why not write about the positives and negatives on the advancements in technology? I believe technology has the good side as well. It improved tremendously and is only getting better. I've never heard anybody complain about the innovation nowadays like oh man I hate the new touchscreen ipad I prefer my old computer I used in the 50’s. She also states that modern life requires hardly any physical activity. I don’t think that applies to everyone. A lot of people don’t care about their phones and are active throughout the day. She put to much emphasis on the negativity of modern day technology. The only good thing she said about technology was the ringtone tunes sound better now than they did before. I still enjoyed what she wrote and loved reading her...

There Are 12 Months

... There are two reasons why I wake up in the morning: my alarm clock and you. Great minds contain ideas, solutions and reasons; scientific minds contain formulas, theories and figures; my mind contains only you! Love can be expressed in many ways. One way I know is to send it across the distance to the person who is reading this. If I could change the alphabet, I would put U and I together!  Minsan caring is better than loving. Minsan tea is better than coffee. Minsan smile is better than laughter. Pero nobody is better than you. There is night so we can appreciate day, sorrow so we can appreciate joy, evil so we can appreciate good, you so I can appreciate love. You look great today. How did I know? Because you look great everyday.  What is love? Those who don't like it call it responsibility. Those who play with it call it a game. Those who don't have it call it a dream. Those who understand it call it destiny. And me, I call it you. What is love? It is what makes your cell phone ring every time I send text messages.  If love can be avoided by simply closing our eyes, then I wouldn't blink at all for I don't want to let a second pass having fallen out of love with you. I used to think that dreams do not come true, but this quickly changed the moment I laid my eyes on you.  Press down if you miss me. Talaga? Sweet mo naman. You really miss me huh? Still pressing down. Impressed na ako, ha? Sobrang miss na yan. Well, I miss you too. Some people...

Social Disconnect

...these sites between people that have already connected. In fact, social networking sites have more turned into social interaction sites, where people can keep in touch with those that they know, carry conversations, and even give gifts all without ever even leaving the computer desk. Even when meeting people through these sites and establishing a connection, the “getting to know someone” part of meeting people is all gone. Birthdays, favorite colors, political views, and marital statuses, among other things, are all available at first glance. What’s the fun in conversing with someone to get to know them if you already know the answers to the questions that you’re asking? Cell phones have attributed to the growth of social networking sites. Applications for these sites have been developed for many popular phone services...

...I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option. More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can’t wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that’s not only better, but also more directly involves me. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong. I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they've invented the lighter? Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger. The letters T and G are very close to each other on a keyboard. This recently became all too apparent to me and consequently I will never be ending a work email with the phrase "Regards" again. Tapping Into Texting

...appointment after school. P2] So Blair, who is on a conference call in his office in Saratoga, Calif., pulls out his cell phone and thumbs in a short message. "can u b @ sasaki @ 330," he asks. P3] Seconds later, Aaron, sitting at his desk at Saratoga High School, feels his cell phone vibrating in his pocket. He surreptitiously looks at the screen and quietly pumps in a response: "can b there @ 320." P4] Welcome to the future, where the family that texts together stays together. P5] Instant, fast, fun and cheap, texting — sending and receiving brief text messages on cell phones and other portable devices — has been the rage in Europe since the late '90s. Now it's making inroads in the USA. Early users love it, but some people worry that it will add yet another distraction to already overtasked lives. P6] Teens, techies and other early adopters leading the charge to text say it's a great way to communicate when they are too busy to talk or when making a call would be rude or impractical. Parents keep tabs on kids. Business people silently check facts in meetings. Young professionals text-flirt at concerts. And teens gossip with friends, anytime, anywhere. P7] Teens are especially ahead of the curve: 45% of Americans ages 12-19 have a cell phone, according to market research company Teenage Research Unlimited of Northbrook, Ill. And 37% of teen cell users also use text messaging, with numbers rising every year. P8] "Some people do it for eight hours at a...

...service in the case of Apple's the iPhone and Disney the Shark's Fin Soup. Understanding the consumer’s behavior and the customs and values of the culture impacted these two campaigns. Apologies good media press and changes in the strategy to get the approval of the consumers. Both case studies points out the impact of technology and how it at first affected the campaigns for bad with negative that changed the reputation of both companys. Apple's dilemma was very embarrassing for the company with negative reports and predictions of how the iPhone was going to sell in Japan. The propaganda was already put out to the media about the Japanese saying No Thanks to Apple concerning the iPhone 3. Apple thought that Japan would be ecstatic with the new product but supposedly the opposite occurred with reports of weak showing of the iPhone3. Of course with Apple being the cutting edge in technology and innovation in the western world Japan did not feel the same way about Apple's iPhone3. First Japan was a hard market to try to get into the for Apple and their competition Nokia, and Motorola, whose attempts to grab Japanese customers were futile. So this was going to be a difficult campaign for Apple. At the time Japan was hostile toward western brand including Nokia and Motorola which I thought were Japanese brands. What’s wrong with the iPhone, from a Japanese perspective? The high monthly data plans that go with it, its lack of features, the low-quality camera, the unfashionable...

Virgin Mobile Usa

...choose and why? In designing your pricing plan, be as specific as possible with respect to the various elements under considerations (e.g. contracts, the size of the subsidies, hidden fees, average per-minute charges, etc.) There are two different pricing structures for Virgin Mobile. The first pricing structure is for their target market, 14 to 24-year-olds, and any new product entering a saturated market, the pricing should be low in the market. The second pricing structure is that Virgin Mobile is pricing their product in the middle or average of the industry standard. For Virgin Mobile, I believed that the first structure is easier to attract their target market, 14-24 year olds young demographic. The reason is that this age demographic group does not have too much money to use or to pay for their mobile phone bill. This pricing structure would appeal to the target market and help Virgin Mobile to create brand image which is young, interesting, and fun. While this pricing structure strategy would help gain consumers that value pricing when choosing their products, it could also work against Virgin Mobile. This pricing can create the image that the phones do not have as high of a quality if they are priced below the industry low. This structure would achieve the goal of attaining a sizable amount of the market share, but it would not be as profitable as the second pricing structure strategy. According to this case, which lays out three different pricing options. I believed...

...technology though, has been able to help in the fight against crime. New gadgets such as the Mobile Scanner and the unknown cameras and microphones that surround people are ways in which the government can help protect citizens. Some people believe it is unethical and unnecessary for the government (gov.) to be provided with so much information; in my opinion, I believe that in order to be safe we need to give up some rights and freedoms. I think that in order to live in a safe world we need these extreme measures such as airport searches, communication control, and observation mechanism on the roads. Terrorism has been a problem for airlines and air travelers since the 1970s, when hijackings and bombings became the method of choice for subversive, militant organizations around the world. Although security at airports has always been tight, the 9/11 attacks awoke many people to a harsh reality. Airport searches are composed of identity confirmation, bag check, metal detectors, and full body searches. These few steps are seen by some as a violation of privacy but in my opinion it is extremely important. The reason as to why I truly believe it is vital for the safety of all citizens is because if these searches were done back in September 11 then maybe the attacks to the Twin Towers would not have occurred. Airports are taking safety procedures very strict now due to that mishap, if you even say the word “Bomb” they will pull you aside and search you. Although this may seem extreme...

Mobile Wallet

...announced that the new iphone’s will come ready with an application that allows you to store your credit card information and scan it at all easy pay location. This week I have read and summarize the article: Apple Teaming up with Visa, MasterCard on IPhone Wallet written by Mat Townsend at Bloomberg. In this paper I will break down the article, offer up issues and perspectives, and how I feel about the technology. To summarize, the article starts off by telling us that Apple intends to partner up with Visa and MasterCard by turning the next iPhone into what they consider a “mobile wallet”. The new iPhone claims it will make payments to retailers easier by including a near field communication integrated into the phone. They claim this technology in conjunction with fingerprint technology will allow customer the ability “to securely pay for an item in store with the touch of a finger”. The article continues on to say that google has been investing into ways of giving phones the capability to make payment at retailers causing retailers to slowly adopt the concept, but the market for it was limited. With apple coming into the scene Ben Bajarin, an analyst for Creative Strategies LLC in San Jose, claims apple will quickly become the largest market share in the states using this technology”. “Love it or hate it, Apple drives a lot of standards in the industry,” Bajarin said in an interview. “They are the mover in these markets. When they do something, the industry seems to follow...

...Harry Liu Lori Runkle Language class 2A 25 October 2012 Is Starbucks a Good Choice? Let us set a certain setting, “It is a cold night during the winter. It is freezing cold outside, and you decide to buy a cup of coffee to keep warm. (It is always a good choice to buy a cup of coffee in the cold winter.) There are several choices including Starbucks, COSTA, Macafee , or perhaps some Nestle instant coffee.” I suppose most of those people who live in urban areas would probably choose Starbucks. As a matter of fact, I myself am a Starbucks’ fan. I have always had a weak point for their latte and cappuccino. But still, there are many people who suppose Starbucks is very costly and that instant coffee is just as good. So here comes the problem, is Starbucks a sensible choice? Starbucks may give you an impression that they did many beneficial things for the environment. Even at the back of their invoice, they print their so-called “Share Planet” project to contribute to help the environment. Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ means focusing on the core areas where we have the biggest influence – ethical sourcing, environmental stewardship and community involvement.(Starbucks share the planet project) But what have have done? The bizarre policy in Starbucks which is aimed at preventing germs developing in the taps in its 10,000 stores worldwide, has outraged environmental groups. Every Starbucks branch...

Pirating

...Essay#2 Like most people, sometimes I am a pirate. One thing I don't pirate, however, is video games. I tend to buy them through software “Steam”. Steam is an application owned by a company named Valve which allows you to buy videogames and download them directly to your hard drive, rather than picking up a copy in the store. Why would I do that, instead of just pirating them off the internet (which I have the technical know-how to do)? First we look at all the benefits steam has to offer. Back in May 2008, Valve brought cloud storage to Steam, allowing for all saved games, replays, screenshots, and other files found in any Steam game to be saved on Valve's servers. This enables gamers to access their save files regardless of what hardware they're using. Simply logging into your Steam account will allow you to pick up right where you were last playing, even if you happen to be on somebody else's PC miles away from your own. Second, Steam has a social networking service built-in that lets me see what games my friends own and are playing, and helps me find people to play with. Steam is always offering crazy sales. You'll turn on your computer and routinely see games marked down by 75%. These sales are for "a limited time only" and you practically feel like you're losing money if you don't buy something. In consequence, my hard drive is filled with games I haven't even had a chance to play yet. Lastly, Steam is a very small and clean program. All your games are packed into one...

Negative Body Image

...celebrity does or you won’t look good enough. This is a huge problem with our younger generation; they are on social media because it puts them in the mindset of “If I do not look like this, then I will not look good enough.” It causes them to talk badly about their body and think negatively about how they look and how others view them. In some cases this leads to depression and suicidal thoughts, all because of a post that was made by a person on the internet using a social media sight. This is more of a problem on the Instagram platform because it involves the most pictures which has more of an effect, it makes the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words” seem so harsh when the picture that is posted is a negative one. It’s like saying one thousand negative words to a person. It causes so much hurt and hatred to be spread all throughout the internet and all the social media platforms. Social media has been in the daily life of many people in the younger generation. This means that they have grown up most of their lives living in a world that thinks it is okay to comment and post hate comments about someone’s body on their social media...
