My Decision to Pursue an MBA Degree
Getting an MBA degree has always been my goal after finishing my first degree in Business Administration. MBA degree will help me in clarifying my strengths; therefore, giving me the opportunity to focus more. I also believe that people that have their MBA degree make more money than those with first degree in the long run. Being in MBA program opens up opportunities to network with fellow students, which may eventually land one a very good job opportunity. An MBA degree holder is always been looked at as someone who is experienced and skilled in their chosen profession; therefore, commanding more respect from others.
Having done my Jungian 16-type personality assessment, my personality result is ENTP. ENTP means: Extrovert, Intuitive, Thinking and Perceiving. A person with “ENTP personality is innovative, individualistic, versatile, and entrepreneurial. Possible career as politician, strategic planner, literary agent, publicist, entrepreneur, investment broker, computer analyst and ad executive.” (Personality Inventory, 1989). This assessment gives me clearer vision of what I may likely pursue in my MBA program. I always see myself as an entrepreneur based on my personality; entrepreneurial, innovative and someone who likes to help the public. Based on my Jungian 16-type personality result, I will develop my interests and skills towards my personality type, so as to benefit from my potentials. Aside from the above mentioned points, MBA degree holder makes more money than those with lower qualifications in their life time. According to a business article, “there's strong evidence that earning an executive MBA can boost your career. Last year, 43% of students enrolled in executive MBA programs received promotions, up from 34% in 2004, according to the Executive MBA Council, a non-profit schools association in Orange, Calif.

The master’s program is challenging and will take time from an individual’s personal life. An MBA can further a career, begin a new career, or fulfill a personal goal. In obtaining this degree, it would further my education and could definitely be an asset to any future career choice that I may undertake when I retire from State Farm Insurance in a couple of years. In constructing and supporting this argument on whether to pursue an MBA, as a choice, I used the Jungian Personality Self-Assessment to foster insight into possible career paths and how other individuals perceive me. The self-assessment of the Jungian personality gives an individual through 16 personality types a better understanding of him or herself. The assessment measures thinking styles of individuals, modes of dealing with information and interactions for potential managers in group settings. My personality type was the INFP result that describes individuals reserved, creative, and highly idealistic with a possible career as an architect, journalist, educational consultant, missionary, actor, artist, and poet. I agreed with some...

Why an Mba

...Why an MBA University of Phoenix MGT/521 May 31, 2010 I could not decide if I wanted to go after my Master’s in Business Administration, or just stop at my bachelor’s degree. It took me 26 years to decide to go back to school to pursue my AA in Accounting, despite all the pressures, and pushing that I had received from my parents and my family members. So in 2006 I decided that it was time, I looked around to a variety of different colleges and decided that I wanted to attend University of Phoenix Online because I did not want to deal with going to classes, instead I preferred to stay home and be comfortable. After my associates in accounting I decided that because I could still not find a permanent job, I would go ahead and pursue my bachelors of arts in accounting as well. When I was in my last class of my bachelor’s degree, I was toying around with going after my master’s in business administration, and then what will I specialize in. I had been looking for jobs for quite some times on the Internet and in the papers for quite some time and have been sending out hundreds of resumes and have received no responses. I figured that if I went for a master’s degree it would open many more doors in the future. It was a tough decision on whether I wanted to pursue that master’s in business, after all I had been going to school now for the past four years, or if I should just stop at my bachelor’s degree and look for a job. It turned out that finding a job was not working out...

Why I Chose to Pursue an MBA I decided to pursue an MBA to start a new career and to achieve a personal goal. I have a best friend who persuaded me to further my education. She would tell me, “Seles, this world is going to require that individuals who seek employment have a Master’s degree.” I began to think how my goal would be achieved and what university I attend. Wondering and worrying about the cost of this type of education caused me to have many sleepless nights and much stress. My concern was finding the time between allocating times with my six year-old son, working part-time as a volunteer and taking care/assisting my parents who are 70. Also my biggest issue I had was who would hire a recent graduate who is almost 50, African-American single parent of a six year-old son and who have never worked in the corporate world. So I prayed and asked GOD to authorize my pursuit of a Master’s degree. I talked with my advisor Lance Thorsen and he eased my mind and encouraged me to...

Opening up my own childcare center has been a dream goal since I was a teenager. Once I graduate with my Master’s Degree there is a lady I know who already operates two Goddard School Franchises. Ms. Karen told me that when I am ready to take the first steps, such as finding a place, and getting a loan that she will be there to help guide me in the right direction such as giving me the first $25,000 as a down payment. After I do find a place, I plan on starting with infants and toddlers, this way I am able to get my name recognized around the city as a childcare center owner within my community where I live. Pros and Cons of getting my MBA As stated by Clouse, (2006, p. 433-434), “In argumentation, the writer offers evidence to support a claim about an issue. Advantages and Disadvantages of Pursing an Mba

...of Pursuing an MBA Advantages and Disadvantages of Pursing an MBA The decision to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration is a difficult, personal decision. In fact, I categorize it as a life changing decision. For instance, this decision is like most major decisions people make. Whether the decision is over buying a home, changing careers, starting a family or buying that dream car, it is usually laced with advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons, and benefits and consequences. Whether or not those advantages and disadvantages are tangible, quantifiable and measurable, most would agree that they exist and they sometimes have life changing affects. For example, some people think that it is a disadvantage to buy a home because it usually results in one securing a long-term loan whereby a monetary commitment is required from the borrower or homeowner. If this commitment is broken or one is unable to pay as agreed, the borrower or homeowner can lose valuable assets, seriously hinder their ability to borrow money in the future and be looked upon by the banking and financial community as a liability or risk. On the other hand, or some of the advantages of buying a home may result in credit worthiness, proves that you are trustworthy, disciplined and according to Weintrub (2010), “gives one a sense of pride in ownership, stability and security” (para. 2.). With the above mention in mind, I will explore my personal advantages and disadvantages that I discovered when...

...regarding the decision to obtain a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). The impact of education on earning potential, job security, and becoming an entrepreneur will be examined. This paper will also discuss how raising and countering objections has been an aid in my own decision to get an MBA and how I embraced my decision to go back to school. Objections will be raised for reasons not to pursue a graduate degree and referenced information will be sited to support the raising and countering of the content. Why an MBA Raising Objections Business schools have long sold the promise that, like an F1 driver zipping into the pits for fresh tires, it just takes a short hiatus on an MBA program and you will come roaring back into the career race primed to win. After all, it signals to companies that you were good enough to be accepted by a decent business school (so must be good enough for them); it plugs you into a network of fellow MBAs; and, to a much lesser extent, there's the actual classroom education. Why not just pay the bill, sign here and reap the rewards? The problem is that these days it doesn't work like that. Rather, more and more students are finding the promise of business schools to be hollow. The return on investment on an MBA has gone the way of Greek public debt. If you have a decent job in your mid- to late- 20s, unless you have the backing of a corporate sponsor, leaving it to get an MBA is a higher risk than ever. If you are getting good business experience...

...was one of my many dreams and the best decisions I could every make. I knew that choosing to pursue a masters in business administration would begin many new career opportunities. In July 2006, I had the opportunity to obtain my undergraduate degree from the International Academy of Design and Technology Tampa in Recording Arts (Audio Engineering) at the age of 31. At times, the decision felt a little tough because I work time and run my own recording studio. At my old collage, several of my instructors actually made an impact in my life; they advised me to pursue the MBA after six months to a year of rest, in order to get some of my affairs in order. By pursuing an MBA degree, I can also go back and teach at the Academy, it also helps me to achieve goals in my personal life, such as becoming a better businessperson. Some of my former instructors perceive me to be a complex person with a big vision and a low tolerance for stupidity. I thought long about my decision and the time it would take to finish the MBA program and the time I had to give up to accomplish my goals. I did not want to waste any more time and have my dreams ruined, I determined that it made more sense not to wait six months to a year, I only took three months off to give my brain a rest than I decided to pursue my MBA right away after earning my undergraduate degree at the Academy. Construct and Support an Argument Paper

...purpose of this paper is to construct and support an argument on the decision I made to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree to further my career as the head of IT. With today’s society, it is easy to find a subject controversial. The paper will elaborate at the benefits of undertaking MBA program with an emphasis in business management and IT analysis. An argument is an oral disagreement, a verbal opposition or even an altercation. Some may say that it is a discussion involving differing points of view. In the corporate world, debates run rampant on our culture and can be viewed as a constructional tool to improve, advance a roadblock, or the source of a company’s failure. So as a start, referencing the Jungian 16-type personality assessment was the first step. I scored ENFP and agree with the decision. According to the Jungian Assessment, those with the ENFP score are better in business analyst roles and tend to be conscientiousness and critical in the decision making process (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2007). Having a very independent and stubborn nature in both my work and personal life I believe the Jungian 16-type personality assessment supports my decision to further my education and enter the critical field of information technology. The personality assessment specifies that I am extroverted, intuitive, thinker, and judging. I agree with all these statements. I am comfortable walking around to computer server systems most of the day analyzing...
