Reminiscing back to those hot, muggy August days, drenched in sweat and blood, I realize my biggest life accomplishment: having the courage to try something new and play football my senior season. I began playing football when I was nine years old for the midget league Delphos Raiders. I continued to play through my twelve year old season. For some reason, I decided to quit playing in junior high. I may have quit playing; however, my love for the game never came to an end. I also wanted to go back out and begin playing again all of my years of high school. I never had the courage to do it though. I was intimidated considering that all of my friends had been playing for at least 5 years before me, and I knew I would be a major step behind.

Should College Athletes Be Paid Essay

...Should College Athletes be Paid? Why should college athletes be paid or not? In this article it says, “Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year in TV and marketing contracts, tickets sales, and merchandising.” Why I choose this topic is because If the college players don't bring any money for the TV , tickets, and merchandising then that is wrong. They should, at least, have 10% of what they sell that has the player's last name on it .I am on the pro side why I am is because If a person buys an item that has something to do with them, then they should be paid a little amount of what the regular price is of the item. I am going to tell you a few Pros about college players getting paid. First of all, in the text it says, “ Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year.” My question is how does the franchise make billions a year. They make billions a year from the players who, when the games and consistently bowl games and don't even bring a little bit poor because people consider they are amateurs and they will do something poor with the money like use it on things that...

The Strength Of American Football Essay

...American football has always been one of the most popular sports in United States. A lot of parents sign their kids up for football at an early age in hopes of raising a new football superstar. But is it alright for minors (kids under 18) to play tackle football? I think yes for the following reasons: football helps kids be strong and athletic, football can teach important life lessons, and new technologies make football safer than ever. In football, there is a need for strength and athleticism. The game almost forces you to go to the weight room and put up some muscle. When you are the weakest player on the field, it’s no fun at all. But when your arms are bulging with muscle, it’s easy to cause fumbles, get sacks, and tackle your opponent. The game itself makes you strong. And when you are strong, you are healthy. That’s why parents should let kids play tackle football. Their kids will lose all their fat on the field. Also, football makes you athletic. When you get into different situations, you learn how to get out of them. The definition of athletic is physically strong, fit, and active. You become all of those things when you play a dynamic game like football....

Throwing In Football Research Paper

...Throwing in football is very difficult because there are so many risks. But if you are successful you will move down the field faster and get the ultimate reward. Winning the game. The key to a good offense is being able to throw the football because it will open up opportunities in the run game. Throwing is very difficult, it is a process that if you miss one step then you throw will be unreachable or inaccurate. There are 4 steps to throwing a spiral. When you throw a spiral it makes it easier for the receiver to catch the ball. This is difficult because if the ball isn't a spiral and is wobbly then the receiver cannot read the ball and won't know where to put his hands in order to catch the ball. Many people find that they cannot make passes...

The Great Gme of Hockey

...Blackhawks skates down the rink, takes a shot, and he scores! Just like that, the game is over. The Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup! … The Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup! I, together with millions of other fans watching this nationally televised game, witnessed this great phenomenon live. Now you might wonder why millions of other fans and I tuned in to see the game. The answer is because millions of fans and I love and appreciate the game of hockey. In my opinion, it truly is the most exciting game both to play and to watch. While playing hockey and watching hockey are obviously two very different activities, they have at least one thing in common; they are both very fun. Let us take a closer look at each activity individually and see why so many others and I enjoy it so much. I sincerely enjoy the thrill that I receive while playing hockey. I am not alone about this feeling. If you were to ask someone that plays hockey, as to why they play, one reason he or she will almost definitely tell you is something along the lines of that, “they love the thrill that the game has to it”. Now obviously, when I say the word “thrill”, it is not the same type of thrill that one might receive through skydiving, or the likes. Rather, the thrill that comes from playing hockey is of a less risky breed. I love playing sports in general. So maybe it is easier for me to come across as someone that loves hockey. So let me set it...

Should Kids Be Able To Play Dangerous Sports Essay

...Should kids be able to play dangerous sports? Many people argue that kids shouldn’t be able to play dangerous sports because it can cause a kid to brake a bone or get a concussion. The other side argues that they should be able to play it because parents should be able to make the choice not the government. There are also people who don’t mind dangerous sports but wont let their kids play them. I think that they should be allowed to play them to a extent meaning they can play something that is too crazy but should be able to play things like tackle football. Many people will put their kid into something like flag football to bypass tackle football because they think it is dangerous. But according to Stanford health they both get the...

Can We Tackle the Concussion Battle?

...the Concussion Battle? Can We Tackle the Concussion Battle Within Football? Introduction The National Football League (NFL) or as some people may say, “Not for long” is responsible for some of the greatest athletes. Excellence appears to be their one goal, which is to win Super Bowl championships. Some players perform at a high level for a while, whereas others don’t have a chance at experiencing actual playing time on the field at all. NFL players are less and less likely to have a definitive long-term career in the NFL. On average their career may span for about 3 ½ years (Stradley, 2011). (Workman Pub Co, 2002) The NFL has added several new teams, provided innovative equipment, additional rules, distinctive playing styles, but most importantly there has been a revolutionary change of the NFL culture. The game of football is being played at a faster pace and players are becoming larger, and intelligent (Wharton, 2011). While the sport of football can be stressful, competitive, entertaining and enjoyable, it also poses a dangerous threat of injury. One of the more common injuries within playing or watching football are concussions. Over the past few years concussions have become a more serious endangerment to those who play, from new evidence we have seen on the effects on the brain and how it can affect a player’s future. The purpose of this project is to investigate the current status of football and concussions in finding a solution to reducing head trauma in players...

Personal Reflection on the Self

...Reflection on The Self The social world can do so much to a person whether it be good or bad not realizing the affects that they cause. When it comes to the news, they put on what everyone wants to hear and what will bring in the ratings instead of actually putting both sides of the story. For example if an African American killed another African American not to many people would hear about it but when an African American kills a Caucasian person it will be all over the news and turn into a racial incident. Not only would this incident be all over the news but it would look like the African American was totally in the wrong but really didn't do anything wrong. That is just an example but this is how bad social media plays an effect in our society and is something that is going on every single day. an interesting line from this ready is, " We respond not to reality as it is but to reality as we construe it." (Myers, 2010) This is so true people are so worried about what is going on or what others are going to think of them that instead of being their own person these people are just make things worse for themselves and in lots of cases causing depression. We are who we are and nothing should be able to change that. As a veteran self concept, self esteem, and self efficacy play a huge role in the way the veteran see's life and what they see in themselves especially when they have been in combat. The experiences that the veterans have been through can make them feel...

The ball needs to go to the strikers, so they can bounce the ball back to a midfielder who then will be facing the opponents goal and who can immediately attack.” “It’s a simple rule in football: the third man determines what you can or can’t do. But we seem to forget to teach our youngster this. And this is a dangerous situation. We now have two generations defenders (Mathijsen/Ooijer/Bouma vs Vlaar/Boula/Jaliens/Heijtinga) who do not have that skill. Our youth coaches need a long look in the mirror.” "Our system was also a solution to a physical problem. How can you play for 90 minutes and remain strong? If I as a left back run 70 meters up the wing it's not good if I immediately have to run back 70 to my starting place. So if the left midfielder takes my place and left winger takes the midfield position, then it shortens the distance. That was the philosophy." (krol) " It was about making space, coming into space, and organizing space-like architecture on the football pitch.
