At times I wish I could say that all my life I’ve known I wanted to become a Registered Nurse. Each time a patient asked me why I chose this profession, I secretly wanted to tell them, “all my life.” That wasn’t the case for me. Since I was a child, my parents constantly told me I should be a nurse. Of course, I considered every other profession except nursing, but nothing caught my attention. I eventually applied to nursing school where I ended up on a wait list for three years plus an estimated two years remaining. Frustrated, I enrolled into a Licensed Vocational Nursing program. I was slightly jealous hearing everyone’s life long dream of becoming a nurse. My reason? During that time, I didn't have a real reason, but soon after rotating to a few clinical sites, I was thrilled to see myself enjoying what I did. One of our last rotation sites consisted of a pediatric subacute facility that involved high acuity patients. The first day on site, I remember seeing a nurse run by with a smile on her face. Very loudly, she had asked the other nurses if any one of them had seen Charlie, then disappeared. A few moments later, I heard a soft bell followed by giggles. A young boy, no older than four, had zoomed by the opposite direction carrying a backpack attached with a portable oxygen tank. I assumed it was Charlie. That moment solidified my desire to be a nurse. I was surprised that a laugh so small had such a big impact on me. I realized it wasn’t merely the laugh, but what was behind it. Despite his conditions, I saw an energetic child and a nurse who didn't allow the surroundings of a hospital to impinge on his life. It truly inspired me. Workings as a LVN, I now know I made the right career path. I feel lucky to have a job where making a difference is what I do for a living. It’s hard to not love being a nurse knowing that people appreciate what you do.

... My Dream Career Danielle Flynn University Of Phoenix Career.2 Over the past years my career that I have wanted to do has change many times. You could say that it would take me back to the time when I was a little child acting out all different kinds of careers. Up until recently I truly did not know what I wanted to do. My family and I were sitting around in our living room discussing what I wanted to do with my life. Then all the sudden my dad was talking about becoming a nurse. That’s when it clicked; I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to be the one out there helping people when they needed it and be someone who would be there for them when they were hurt or injured. The true definition of a registered nurse according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook is “Registered nurses (RNs), regardless of specialty or work setting, treat patients, educate patients and the public about various medical conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients’ family members. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.” (para. 1). This is something I want to base my whole career on, so that I will be able to help everyone to the full extent. Even though I might not be the most educated person I fell that my love to help others will help me to get through and help me succeed to do my best. The one big...

...Why I want to become a registered nurse by FAGOYE Not unlike many people, I have had my share of challenges during my lifetime. Not unlike many people, I have had many successes as well. And, just as many people, my goals and dreams have changed as the days and years of my life have gone by. I find myself right now working towards one of my long time goals and getting close to the fulfillment of that goal. I would not call it a dream because that is something merely wished for or thought about but not tangible. I am going to become a registered nurse. Currently, I am completing a degree in public health. That is one of my short term goals. And it is going to be reality very soon. However. I have another, more important, long term goal. I want a career as a public health surveillance nurse. In order to do that, I need to successfully complete a term of study and become a registered nurse. That is what I am concentrating on at this time. It is the next step for me and means so much. Public health is the art and science of disease prevention, the prolongation of health and life. It is accomplished through the efforts and choices of numerous entities including communities and individuals. But, I believe that by becoming a registered nurse, I can play a crucial role in the health of the public. Registered Nurse Personal Statement

...My desire to become a nurse evolved from an experience at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine. I was given the opportunity to do a practicum in the psychiatric, hospice, and inpatient care unit under an OTR/L (occupational therapist, registered/licensed). I walked into the building with the mindset of being an occupational therapist only to leave with the desire and urge of becoming a registered nurse. I was able to work hands on with war veterans, all while working along side registered nurses and nurse practitioners. Each day brought a whole new experience and adventure. The more I worked with the nurses, the more I was able to see that nursing is far more than just a profession of integrity and compassion. Touching the lives of others is a treasure far more than seen from the naked eye. To these nurses, each patient in the Medical Center is a precious gift of life, and for the first time I truly felt like I had touched and made an enormous impact. A strong feeling of accomplishment and self-worth spread promptly throughout my body and soul when I had the privileged to work with a patient in the hospice care unit. This specific gentleman was 95 years old; he was a WWII veteran who had stopped life-prolonging medical treatments. He had begun pain management and other comfort measures...

...WHY I WANT TO PURSUE A CARRER AS A NURSE. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need and try to improve what is probably been a bad day for them. I was born and raised in Cameroon, where poverty is very evident. Throughout my life, I have seen all different kings of people in poverty, may it be infants, children, elderly people and even disabled people. Everyday I would see people on the streets begging others for money just so they could treat their ailing relatives. Whenever I saw them, I felt so weak. I wanted to help them, yet I did not know how since I was just a child. It wasn’t until I moved here in the United States that I realized health care is truly the right path for me. Moving here made me realized how other countries like Cameroon are in great need of health services. It made me more aware of the situation and now that I am older, I know that I could do my part in those in needs in all over the world and Africa especially. Seeing the poverty and lack of good health care gave me more than the desire to become a nurse, it gave me the passion and determination to achieve that carreer. I believe that passion and determination are important elements in becoming a nurse which I posses all skills Once I stared researching a career in nursing I realized that there were a lot more types of nurses than I had originally thought. Registered Nurse Personal Statement

...If you ask a child what they want to be when they grow up, most of the time you get unrealistic answers, such as princesses or superheroes. I, on the other hand, never dreamt of being a princess; I have always wanted to be a nurse. The idea of helping people or saving someone’s life every day sounds like the perfect job for me, but I realize that with reward comes responsibility. If I make a mistake on the job, I can’t just restart or erase the problem. Someone dies. This is why it is essential that someone going into this field is passionate about their patients and the work they do. Although nurses have a stressful job, the FOCUS assessments have made me realize just how well my personality fits with a career as a Registered Nurse. Why a Nurse Degree

...launching path for my career as Registered Nurse. I was able to find a stable job and apply what I have learned in my daily work. I can proudly say that I just become a Chemotherapy Nurse and I feel proud of helping patients recently diagnosed with cancer.  Able to give the right treatment to my patients has always been my first goal. And now that I feel more comfortable in my new career, I also feel it is time for me to proceed with my continuing education. I have the time and determination to invest in the Advance Career, which I considered one of my strengths.  There are many reasons why people look for a continuing education and better salary is usually the main one. However, particularly in my case, the Jump salary is not the main reason why I want to pursue a Bachelor degree in Science of Nurse. In my hospital for example, a BSN nurse make only 1$ dollar extra compared to an ASN. That is really an insignificant small amount if you considerer what a bachelor degree requires of any student: a lot time consumption and money. So the question remains why a BSN is an attractive career for me? To answer this question I had to stop and think about what an ASN offered me in the past, and what a BNS will offer me in the near future. I realized that an Associate degree gave me a solid base for my professional growth. I was able to obtain my RN license, find as job and from Registered Nurse I become a Chemotherapy Certified Nurse. But with a BSN I will enjoy great prestigious...

All I can think about if helping sick children forget about their problems and focus and something better to brighten up their day. Even if I was only working in a small cancer clinic in Houston, my motivation wouldn’t be any different. I can only hope to be lucky enough to end up at my dream job in Houston, Texas; the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Becoming a nurse can take a while but once I am registered my starting salary will be about $50,000 a year, although money isn’t my main focus with this job. I don’t just want to be a nurse, I want to be support for people losing everything and still trying to find a reason to live another day. We don’t know the reason for someone getting diagnosed with cancer, but we can all try to lend a helping hand. I don’t quite know why I feel so passionate about helping cancer patients specifically, but I know this is something I want to do. I would want someone to be there for me to force me not to dwell on the sad stuff that is out of my control and look at the brighter side. The BSN is more in depth in the treatment of the physical and social sciences, nursing research, public and community health, nursing management and humanities (AACN, 2014, para#4) According to the AACN “ The additional course work enhances the students professional development, prepares the new nurse for a broader scope of practice, “ and allows the baccalaureate graduate to” better understand the many social, cultural, economic and political issues that impact patients and influence healthcare”. Associate Degree Nursing Versus Baccalaureate Nursing

...get a degree. “An Associate Degree in Nursing is an economical way of becoming a registered nurse in a short period of time” (Raines & Taglaireni, 2008). “Achieving an Associate Degree in Nursing might alleviate the nursing shortage in a shorter amount of time” (Seago & Spetz, 2002). A diploma nursing program is a three year program based out of a hospital setting and focuses mostly on nursing education and skills provided at a hospital (Hood, 2010). “The typical focus of Associate Degree nurses is on substantial clinical experience and technical nursing skills needed to provide nursing care for explicit patient situations at the bedside” (Starr & Edwards, 2010). All of these programs take the Nursing Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). “Associate Degree Nursing skills focus around being a caregiver, counselor, and educator” (Hood, 2010). When working in a hospital setting there is a lot of education to patients provided along with giving the nursing care. “Associate Degree nurses provide care to individual clients with common, well-defined nursing diagnoses while considering clients’ familial relationships” (Hood, 2010). Experienced and talented nurses who have their Associate Degree in Nursing can be in management and leadership roles and that has been found to be true in nursing homes (J. S. Hayden, personal communication, October 6, 2010). So some nurses who may not want to further their education can still get management positions in a geriatric facility...

Career as a Nurse

...a warm sunny day and I was in the backyard playing on my homemade wooden swing-set. My stepfather was a general contractor, so he built me and my younger sister a new swing-set. The slide was made out of copper and it had wood as the rails. As I was sliding down it my leg got to close to the side of the rail and I got a huge splinter in the side of my leg. I was crying very loudly because it hurt so bad, my mom heard me so she ran out there to see what had happened. I had to go to the emergency room to get the splinter removed so it wouldn’t get infected. I knew right then at that very moment that I wanted to be a nurse. Here are a couple things that I found to be interesting about nursing. Did you know that Jan 27th is school nurse day? Or did you know that in 1783 a black slave named James Derham worked as a nurse in New Orleans, eventually earning enough money to buy his freedom and move to Philadelphia, where he studied medicine and became a doctor? And I also bet that you didn’t know that the largest demand for Licensed Practical Nurses through 2110 will be in nursing homes? Or that the 4th week of May is National Nurses week, which is coming up pretty soon. And May 8th is national Student Nurses’ day (Start a nurse staffing agency). Well I didn’t know any of that either until I started my paper on my nursing career. In December 2010 I finished my schooling for a Licensed Practical Nurse at the JCTC Campus in the accelerated program. I chose to start out at...

Professional Goals

...oldest of five girls and living in a single-parent household, I was taught responsibility from a very early age. New to this country sixteen years ago, my mom depended on me to run the house and take care of my sisters, while she worked two jobs to support my family. Rather than veering the wrong way, like statistics show occurs with the impact of single parenting, I was determined to find a balance to successfully thrive and live a lucrative life. Through my high school years, I began to realize that the same qualities and actions in my personal life would prove me successful in the field of nursing. I not only upheld a nurturing personality, but I also had the endurance, strong grades, and always conveyed the motto, “Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” This meant making the best out of my time and optimizing the workload as much as possible in any given moment. As a result of my past, I am able to manage stress in a healthy way and believe the rigorous and intense demands of nursing match my capabilities. Today, as a newly Registered Nurse graduate, I have essential goals that I hope to undertake for as long as I am a nurse. One of my most important goals is to attain core characteristics that define a successful nurse. My second goal is to commit myself to lifelong learning. Third, I want to provide ongoing community service to those in need of medical assistance. According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as, “Protection, promotion, and...
