Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

Since the existence of man there will always be issues and problems. One ethical problem that I can not fathom is animal testing. Animal testing is one issue I wish I could solve, for many reasons. Animals deserve rights, even though they can’t speak. The ways animal testing is conducted is not humane. There are better means to test products. All these factors play a part in why I believe animal testing should come to an end. Every human being is born with the desire to have rights. Those rights can consist of speech, choice, or rights as simple as choosing your classes. When an aspect of those rights is taken away we voice our opinions. Thousands of animals are mistreated, killed, or severely injured just like people all over the world. The only difference is that they can’t voice their opinions. They can’t stand up and claim the rights they deserve. It’s our responsibility to provide help to the animals that have to suffer in laboratories. …show more content…
As centuries progressed people continued to use animals to test varies hypothesizes. For example, William Harvey used animals to discover how blood circulated in the body. The research conducted centuries ago is nothing compared to the way it is conducted now. Animals such as dogs are used to test our cosmetic products, monkeys are used in disease studies such as AIDS, and cats are used in neurological research. The means in which the animal testing is conducted is very different from the ways that ancient doctors used them. They were trying to find a particular cause or effect on the animal. They didn’t use animals just to test how we would react if it were us. Just because animals are the closet in species to us doesn’t mean we should use them for our devilish

Life becomes dreadful when one never knows the next time he or she will be injected with peculiar chemicals or concoctions. These foreign substances can cause complications in all organisms. Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...Animal testing is wrong for various reasons. An animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm. Examples of animal testing include: forcing mice and rats to inhale toxic fumes, force-feeding dog’s pesticides, and dripping chemicals into rabbits’ eyes. Animal experiments are not the same as taking your pet to the vet. Innocent animals used in laboratories are deliberately harmed, for a company’s benefit, and are usually killed at the end of the experiment. Everyone should care about animal’s rights because innocent animals are killed every day for no good reason. Some reasons why include, but are not limited to: alternative...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...you feel if you were locked in a cage, with people coming and going, experimenting on you? Would you feel good? This is what actually happens to animals. I believe that animal testing is horrible and should not be continued. Why this is important is because of my reasons, that are: first it is expensive; second that it is inaccurate; and my third and most important reason is because animal testing abuses an animal rights. My first reason why I think animal testing is bad is because it is really expensive. According to Vittana “... the total cost of caring for a dog could be over $9000 per year.”. That is only a possibility, and only that, but the cost could still be well over $500, which is the least amount required, and even though...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...If you think animal testing is inhumane you’re wrong. There is a large chance that you and millions of other people may not be alive right now without animal testing. Since they have been tested on with medicines, cures, vaccines and billions of other products you use we don’t have to face the brutal consequences. Even though many animals suffer from harmful chemicals and drugs, many “animals themselves benefit from the result of animal testing” (Should Animals Be Used 5). This being said, animal testing is important to conduct because animals are similar for humans, it is highly regulated, and it’s a small price to pay for advancing medical progress. First, animals are appropriate research subjects because they are similar to human beings in many ways. According to the text, “Chimpanzees share 99% of their DNA with humans” (4). This means that the tests we do on animals are extremely accurate. Another example is, “All mammals including humans are descended from common ancestors, and all have the same set of organs (heart, kidney, lungs, etc) that function essentially the same way” (4). This shows that any medication being tested will go through the same organs as us. This...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...For my topic, it is going to be animal testing. Animals don’t deserve to be hurt or potentially killed. Animal testing, in my opinion, is a horrible thing to do. There is something wrong with people if they think that animal cruelty is right. I feel like that is what animal testing is, it is animal cruelty, it is hurting the animal and at sometimes it can even kill it. It would be the same as if i went up to your dog and put potentially harmful chemicals in your dog. I know that putting an animals life in danger is better than putting a humans life in danger. But that is why we are advancing to be able to do testing in simulations. An animals life is still a precious thing to have. There is at most 2 million different animal types in this...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...The Wrongs on Animal Testing As soon as a person walks into a laboratory, they can’t help but notice the rows and rows of barren cages holding sad animals living under the glare of florescent bulbs. Their bodies are burned, mutilated, and scarred. Animals who have had their heads crushed grip their faces and convulse as blood pours out of their noses. They can smell and taste the stench of blood, feces, and fear (Facts on File). These animals don’t deserve to feel/ look this way. Animal testing doesn’t always have the same outcome on humans that they would have on animals. Secondly, animal testing is very expensive for the fact that the substances tested may never be used for anything. Finally, there are alternatives to animal testing. There are alternatives such as using a petri dish. For these reasons, animal testing should be banned. The outcomes on animals are rarely the same on humans. For example, the 1950’s pill thalidomide caused 10,000 babies to be born with severe deformities (ProCon.org). The pill was tested on pregnant mice, rats, guinea pigs, cats, and hamsters. For this, people further claim that animal testing has not been scientifically proven to predict the outcomes on humans. How much longer can animal testing go on without being 100% percent positive...

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...Is Testing Products on Animals Wrong? Animals are pets to most. We care for them and treat them like our own. Most people have a pet that they love and could not imagine their life without. But, just imagine your pet being an experiment. Animals are used for research for medicine, chemicals, cosmetics, etc. everyday. Animals are being killed everyday due to research. A lot of people believe that using animals as a research experiment is wrong and some believe it is a necessary procedure. Even though animal testing supposedly has a lot of benefits, animal testing is not always accurate and almost always harms the animals. Animals are used everyday for research. That means that millions of animals are being held captive and injured during this procedure. Most believe that this is inhumane and not accurate. Using animals for research is not always accurate. Studies show that “95% of drugs that pass the animal testing stage are immediately discarded because they are useless or harmful to humans” (Stachura 1). Animals and humans are different, that is what it comes down to. Just because a medication did not harm an animal does not mean it will not harm a human. There are more than 100,000 deaths a year in America from FDA-approved medications (Archibald 1)....

Why Is Animal Testing Wrong

...The experimentation on animals has been going on throughout the history of biomedical researching. It’s been a debatable topic for several decades whether animal testing is right or wrong. Although animal testing can bring further medical advancement, it is an inhumane, expensive and time consuming way of researching inaccurate results. At the same time, animal testing is poor science. Over 100 million animals suffer or die each year due from scientists experimenting on animals. They are used to developing new medical treatments, food, and cosmetics, and testing out the safety of products for human use. According to Cruelty Free International, the animals being used in laboratories are being subjected into force feeding, exposed to radiation, having their organs or tissues surgically removed, or being forced to breathe in toxic gases. After...

Animal Testing

...INTRODUCTION The use of animals in scientific experimentation should continue to be fought against because it is morally wrong, there are alternatives to animal experimentation, and the unnecessary research it involves. The use of animals in experimentation has been a debate and a controversy for quite some time now. Many have strong opinions and views on this sensitive issue. That leads us to one question: Is it right? There are alternatives to animal experimentation, and they are addressed by some government websites. The number of animals used for experimentation tens of millions. Scientists defend animal research saying that this testing has contributed greatly to the advancement of cures for human diseases. However, in our generation, there should be a continued resolve in the fight against animal experimentation because it is morally wrong, there are now promising alternatives, and it involves a lot of unnecessary research. " The practice of animal experimentation and testing continues not because it is the most accurate or reliable means of research, but rather because of tradition, peer-pressure, and enormous promotion from those with strong vested interests." S.O.S at the University of Georgia (2012) BODY In my opinion animal testing is wrong, mainly for the moral debate of inflicting unnecessary pain to a living species, but it is also wrong for the environment. Scientists claim that testing on animals is the key to find cures for human diseases, and try to justify...

...different from a human being to a wild animal. We think, we feel, and we see, we all have a life. An animal poked, prodded, and abused is no different from a person being mishandled. Happiness and sadness are two major emotions both animal and human both experience, weather we were born in a jungle or a hospital. The Department of Agriculture has approved the importation of 37 marmosets for experiments in laboratories. We don't know precisely what's in store for these creatures but you can be sure it's likely to be something that turns your stomach. Sydney University in recent years used marmosets in experiments in which their eyes were removed for testing and the animals were put down. About 92% of experimental...

...cruelty towards animals is growing rapidly because people don’t understand the value of an animal’s life. People all around the world use and abuse animals as if it was some kind of national sport, and everybody is competing for the first place gold medal. Ever year millions of animals are being beaten and starved because of heartless people. Animal cruelty is a social issue that many people don’t understand. All the people who abuse animals don’t understand when they are harming an innocent animal are going to continue to do it until they are shown what they are doing wrong. Each type of abuse has certain patterns that scientists can study and find out why people commit the crimes they do. Animal cruelty is broken down into two categories, which are active and passive. Active cruelty is also known as NAI (non-accidental injury). NAI is when a person has malicious intent so fierce that they deliberately and intentionally cause harm to an animal. On the other hand with passive cruelty a person doesn’t intentionally cause harm to the animal, they simple neglect it by giving it no attention. While I was doing the research for this essay, I thought non-stop about how a human being could break a dogs leg, back, or even neck and feel no sympathy for the dog? Are some people in this world that heartless that they have no feelings for other living things? I wonder if you asked a person that has abused an animal if they would do the same things they did to the animal to another human...

Animal Cruelty

...Cruelty Involved in Animal Testing Hobbes, the cat, has been under experimentation for most of his life. This is probably the last time that he will ever have to be experimented on again. Why? Because he is probably not going to make it through this time. The makers of Herbal Essences are about to force shampoo down his throat to see what happens to its organs. Even if the cat lives through the process, they are going to have to kill it to see which organs it could have damaged. If this was an actual human going through this deadly experiment, people would be in shock. Instead, scientists are testing whether or not swallowing shampoo would affect a cat. Testing on animals is a very disagreeable process that should not be allowed. Animal testing started a numerous years ago to help provide humans with information. The process of animal testing is one of the most disturbing experiments ever done. Many cosmetics and personal care products are made every year and are put into the market after being tested on animals. Almost every product has been animal tested at some stage in its development. The website titled "Animals in Product Testing" stated, "...these products have gone through a long and complex testing process that leaves millions of animals mutilated, burned, poisoned and gassed in outmoded and unnecessary tests." From these different experiments, animals are often left with different diseases like Syphilis, herpes, or AIDS ("Animal Rights: Animal Testing"). Manufacturers...

Animal Research

...Animal testing has been a hot topic of discussion in society for many years. The debate is whether or not animal testing should be allowed. Some people believe that animal testing is wrong and that it causes undue harm to animals. Throughout the last 150 years, the practice of using animals for research has been under intense scrutiny between animal activists and researchers. Scientists insist that the experimental research they do is essential for producing effective drugs, and the animal rights activists believe that testing animals for advancements in medicine is not necessary. I believe that research using animals should continue as long as there is a reason for it to continue. Thanks to animal based research, to date millions of human lives have been saved. Animal testing is the only way to find out if vaccinations work for different diseases. We cannot just ask people off the streets to volunteer, as that would be morally and ethically wrong. At this time, scientific researchers have no alternatives for testing new drugs, as scientific computer modules can only do so much for testing. Also, the government has strong laws in place to ensure the health and welfare of test animals. As long as there is disease and sickness in the world, scientists will always be looking for the next cure and treatment options, so we will always need to have animal research. As long as the animals are treated humanely, I believe that it would be inhumane to the human race to stop animal research...

Animal Testing Benefits

...Animals have been tortured and traumatized, but for what? Soap? Some people think it’s okay for animals to die for our benefit, but its really not. Animals deserve rights and should not be taken advantage of. They don’t deserve what the scientists do to them. Not all experiments actually help everyone. Many experiments effect animals very differently than they effect humans, good or bad. In a Nature Reviews Drug Discovery article, it explains how the top leukemia drug, Gleevec, was almost thrown away because it caused severe liver toxivity in dogs. Misleading animal experiments may cause us to throw away possible cures in humans. Vice versa, Vioxx, was shown to protect the hearts of mice, monkeys, dogs, and other lab animals. Though, it was linked to heart attacks and strokes in over 400,000 humans. Therefore, experiments on animals can actually harm humans too....

Animal Testing Is A Good Thing

...Animals are being tested everyday for our needs. Many people think this is wrong, but I think animal testing is a good thing because it has led to great medical discoveries and it keeps us safe when using everyday products. Animal testing is a good thing because of all of the medical discoveries that have come out of it. Animal testing is the reason we have treatments for diseases like diabetes, mumps, some STDs, hepatitis, polio, and more. Animals are also being tested for cancer research. In the UK they are using animals to test cancer treatments. Thanks to these animal testings cancer survival has doubled in the last 40 years(cancerresearchuk.org). Not only are animals used for testing vaccines, medicines, and other medical purposes...
