Is helmet to helmet football collisions too dangerous? Is chop blocking too dangerous to be doing? Is there a way to stop this or a way to prevent it from happening. At least a way to minimize the injuries in football? I believe that I have a solution to these injuries caused in football games and practices. It would require little to nothing in expense and the consequences of these would be less severe than they are now. Is a concussion really harmful to the human body? A scientific study has been tested on concussions, and yes, they truly are harmful to your human body. A concussion not only causes damaged brain cells, but a loss of memory, high blood pressure, and permanent loss of sensory cells. Helmet to helmet contact is the number …show more content…
If you feel a football players pads, you know that the helmet is the hardest part. Some geniuses are designing helmets that can help prevent concussions but aren't concussion proof. I believe that if we change the helmet material and not make it as hard, it would cause less injures. Instead of a super hard helmet to protect your head that can hurt someone else, and make it so your head is protected and so are others. Make the helmet a cushion material or an elastic material so it doesn't hurt when someone gets hit by it. Also, a design where it is tight to the head. Most concussions aren't caused on impact, but whiplash. If the helmet can soften the fall when a player's head hits the ground, a concussion may be lessened. Another reason why this would help is that people would not lead into a tackle or block with their head. Now, the helmet is hard and it doesn't really hurt when you make contact. If the helmet was softer, less people would be willing to take the risk of hurting themselves. This helmet would be designed so it wouldn't hurt the tackler or the carrier, but can also protect yourself. I believe that their is a way to solve these concussions and it may be with a softer helmet. I know that an elastic material or cushion material can embrace the impact better and can result in less

Nfl Player Safety and the Effects of Concussions

...has begun to unravel. The National Football League recently has begun to introduce new rules and regulations for their athletes to start abiding by to ensure the continued safety of the player’s health. Although most find this change in the game of professional football as a positive step forward, others see this as a diminishment of the sanctity of NFL football. New rules and regulations that have been introduced into NFL are vital to athletes involved in the sport and help them to play with lowered risks of long term injuries that could possibly affect not only them but also the league in the future as well. The reasons for these changes of rules in the NFL come from various points of emphasis. Legal actions taken by former NFL athletes have plagued the league and its reputation as of late, prompting this proactive approach to reduce the risk of long term effects on players. With all of the legal actions being performed on the NFL some felt that these changes that needed to happen would solely be kick started because of the legal aspect of it as represented by this quote, “"I don't think it'll be driven by public opinion, but by lawyers and insurance companies," David Meggyesy, who played linebacker for the St. Louis Cardinals in the nineteen-sixties.” (McGrath, 2011). One of the main concerns by the NFL is the long term affects that concussions have been shown to have. Extended periods of head trauma have been shown to lead to many dangerous and tragic health problems later in...

Can We Tackle the Concussion Battle?

...the Concussion Battle? Can We Tackle the Concussion Battle Within Football? Introduction The National Football League (NFL) or as some people may say, “Not for long” is responsible for some of the greatest athletes. Excellence appears to be their one goal, which is to win Super Bowl championships. Some players perform at a high level for a while, whereas others don’t have a chance at experiencing actual playing time on the field at all. NFL players are less and less likely to have a definitive long-term career in the NFL. On average their career may span for about 3 ½ years (Stradley, 2011). (Workman Pub Co, 2002) The NFL has added several new teams, provided innovative equipment, additional rules, distinctive playing styles, but most importantly there has been a revolutionary change of the NFL culture. The game of football is being played at a faster pace and players are becoming larger, and intelligent (Wharton, 2011). While the sport of football can be stressful, competitive, entertaining and enjoyable, it also poses a dangerous threat of injury. One of the more common injuries within playing or watching football are concussions. Over the past few years concussions have become a more serious endangerment to those who play, from new evidence we have seen on the effects on the brain and how it can affect a player’s future. The purpose of this project is to investigate the current status of football and concussions in finding a solution to reducing head trauma in players...

Nfl Head Injuries

...players is in jeopardy of being lost as the American sport as we know it simply due to the fact that too many injuries are occurring in the NFL today than what was happening in the past. Sure past players got hurt, but players now hit ten times harder, play ten times tougher, it’s obvious they are due for a serious injury, it’s just a matter of time and when, surely they make millions each year, but is all that money worth the risk of losing your life or possibly harming it? Imagine this, you’re at your sons final football game as he’s a senior about to graduate, he’s got the crowd rooting for him, he’s the one who snaps the ball, yes the quarterback of the team. The defense is running full force, showing blitz when suddenly “ WHAM!” he takes a huge hit from a defensive player and stays laid out on the floor , suddenly coaches and staff from the team rush to the field while he remains still, the crowd silent , awaiting the outcome . Slowly he gets up with the help of the staff and coaches, he’s then carted to the locker room by team staff where they tell the parents that they are checking him for a concussion because it’s UIL protocol when it comes to hard extensive hits taken by a defenseless player. Not one person who loves football can deny that the big hits and huge plays are the main reason we watch the game, but has anyone ever stopped for a second to observe how dangerous the hits can actually be and how they can affect a player and their families long term? We often hear...

Alcohol Driving Course

...Pain Relievers * Tranquilizers * Hallucinogens * Stimulants * Narcotics It is very dangerous to combine alcohol and other drugs. Synergism occurs when the effect of one drug is enhanced by the presence of another drug. A multiplying rather than additive effect may occur. It takes more ounces of beer than whiskey to become impaired, but people tend to drink more beer (total ounces) than whiskey. Regarding the servings of assorted alcohol beverages, they all have differing amounts of alcohol. Beer actually has more alcohol than whiskey and coolers are even stronger. There are also an infinite number of ways to mix alcoholic beverages so a drink by drink comparison can only be made when size and alcohol content of the drinks involved are known. Alcohol is a toxic substance. The use of alcohol has no benefit to the body or society. Abuse or excessive consumption of alcohol or other drugs affects the physiology of the body in many ways. If a body becomes accustomed to the presence of alcohol continuously, a physical dependence develops and changes in the way organs and body systems respond to a drug. Addiction is “a state of periodic or chronic impairment detrimental to the individual and society, which is characterized by an overwhelming desire to continue taking the drug and to obtain it by any means.” Almost all drugs have some potentially dangerous side effects. Adolescent Sports Injuries

...Sports Injuries While researching further into the major of Physical Therapy, there was a topic that kept resurfacing. That topic was adolescent sports injuries and why/how they occur. Injuries from sports participation are a substantial cause of hospitals visits and medical bills. Sport injuries are the second leading cause of ER visits for adolescents. As I dived deeper into researching this topic I came across scholarly articles though places such as JSTOR, Google scholar, and more through the library databases. One of my favorite articles that I used throughout the semester was Taft’s. Although this article might be slightly out-of-date I think the information is still respectable and still truthful to the current date. Timothy...
