Why People Travel There are numerous reasons an individual would choose to travel away from home. Couples looking for a romantic getaway may travel to a tropical location in hopes of enjoying a warm and sunny location during the cold winter months. Individuals with families will travel to visit other family members or friends who live in other parts of the world. People also travel for business purposes catching flights that will quickly take them to their destination. Many individuals travel for celebrations like weddings, births, and even funerals (Merith, 2009). My favorite reason to travel is for relaxation. My husband and I travel a few times each year for romantic getaway weekends. The pressures of our jobs, the lack of privacy in our home, and the need for a quiet place to relax without the obligations of parenthood are just a few of the reasons we have for traveling. We have a favorite hotel where we enjoy spending the weekends away. We are there so often the staff knows us by name. The property is a Wyndham historic hotel that has been restored to its former glory. The restaurant, The Dancing Goat, serves elegant meals in a cozy atmosphere and the piano bar offers a late night opportunity for dancing and romance. The candlelit tables and soft piano music create a dreamy atmosphere. This hotel is also close to the plantation house where my husband and I were married. It is a wonderful experience each time we visit.

Why People Travel

...One reason one might travel is for Relaxation. All work and no play is not a good thing. People need to get away from the stress of their everyday life, and a nice sunny location with a beach might just be what that person needs to relax. Another reason one might travel is to visit family and friends. Many people have family members and friends that are located in different parts of the world. They need to visit with them even if it’s for a short period of time. Another reason one might travel is to Celebrate. Many people travel to celebrate special occasions such as: a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or birth. There’s always something to celebrate and it doesn’t always happen where you live. Another reason one might travel is to go on a Honeymoon. When people get married they usually celebrate their wedding by going on a Honeymoon. This usually occurs after a wedding, but there are many occasions where people celebrate their honeymoon years later. Another reason one might travel is work related. Job requirements might mean a fair bit of travel is involved. Even if the travel is within your own country it still has a purpose attached to it. My most recent travel experience was to Six Flags over Georgia. My reason for traveling was to get away from my hometown and go somewhere and have fun and enjoy myself. We chose to go to Six Flags over Georgia because we enjoy riding the rides in the amusement park, and we also were able to go to the water park (White...

Have you ever thought about why so many people those to go on a vacation? And what makes people those to go on a vacation in one country out of another? That is for sure some of the questions that I am asking myself about travelers. Travelling has always been a big part of my life. One of the things that make travelling so exciting for me is the different cultures you meet when you are in another country. But what is important, when you visit another nation, is to have some sort of knowledge about the culture; because it can be very different from what you are used to. Normally when I go on a vacation to a country I don’t know anything about, I by a book about culture and important information about the nation. And having knowledge about the country you are planning to visit is very important: If you decide to visit for an example Paris and if you are a woman, you may never walk alone at night, because of the high crime and rapes. That is very important to know as a woman because otherwise you might be exposed to some unpleasant or undesirable experiences. It is also important to know that some nations ‘refuse’ to speak English and therefore it can be very difficult to communicate. A country that prefers to speak only their language is France. It could also be information about young people...

Why We Travel

...The article “Why We Travel” by Pico Iyer talks about his views and opinions on why people travel to foreign places and what they expect to gain from their trips. He also mentioned a few of his past experiences and his feelings based on his travelling days. Based on this article, we conclude that travelling is not only moving elsewhere other than our homes and coming back the same person. It changes a person’s perception of life in either positive or negative ways. Through his personal travels, he has highlighted travelling makes him sees in a different point of view in most of the countries like in Paris, Mickey Rourke was still known as the greatest actor since Jerry Lewis. I’m in a full agreement in his statement of his definition of the joy travelling as people have to be open minded to enjoy ourselves. An example which would be meeting and understanding the local trends like I did when I was in Japan. Their trending faster than Malaysia when I was there. Besides that, he brought up that travelling is a way to reverse time to a small extent, and make a day last a year. I also strongly support this as families tend to cram a bunch of activities all in a day because no one in this world wants to “waste time” but wanting to make use of the little time they have away from home. I have also experienced travelling and wanting to accomplish all the plans in a day as I was in Italy for 2 months of vacation but unfortunately did not manage to visit all the...

Backpacker Tourism

...DISSERTATION REPORT- BACKPACKERS: THE NEXT GENERATION? INTRODUCTION Since the mid-1990s, the tourism industry has become aware of the economic ‘phenomenon’ of backpacker tourism and the extent to which it contributes financially to both developed and developing countries. To date, most backpacker research has focussed on reviewing the experiences and choices in travel of the 18-29 year olds who constitute the bulk of the market. Future research should move away from assuming that backpacking is a homogenous phenomenon and should instead review its diverse manifestations, in terms of differences in age, gender, origins, and particular subcultures. Who is a tourist? Who is a backpacker? These two apparently simple questions have been discussed and debated for years by academics. The tourist is a voluntary, temporary traveller, travelling in the expectation of pleasure from the novelty and change experienced on a relatively long and non-recurrent roundtrip. Tourists were sub-classified into four travel roles:organized mass tourists, individual mass tourists, explorers, and drifters. The definition of backpackers included a preference for budget accommodation and emphases on meeting other travellers, flexible itineraries, longer rather than shorter holidays and informal and participatory holidays. Most studies of backpackers have indicated that more than 80% of backpackers are less than 30 years of age. PRIMARY RESEARCH QUESTION *...
