“Why Social Networking sites are so addictive”

Next to the numerous games that often hooks are attention, another thing that most parents problems today towards their children is the social networking sites that is said to be addictive due to its unlimited offers. The connection that can be made between two people distant to each other is such a thing that you simply cannot resist. Not only is discovering new content through all the retweets almost invaluable, but simply striking a conversation about common interests or thanking people for retweets, is a joy! Once you've gotten involved in networking sites, things can escalate quickly. One reason these sites are so addictive is that there's a nonstop stream of messages, photos, updates and information coming from those in your network. If you have 10 friends, it shouldn't be a problem keeping up with them. If your network is 100 friends or more, you might end up online for hours every day, trying to check all of the updates. If you're trading messages back and forth with other members, you might find yourself even more caught up in the exchange, just as you would in a normal conversation. We’re able to communicate with so many people from all across the globe these days, it’s an incredible thought. All of our combined efforts, information and personalities are combining through out the internet to create this mass community of individuals getting support and affirmations from fellow peers. That’s why it’s addictive to people. Because people want to constantly be seeing new things, meeting new people and hopefully improving as a person thru social networking sites.
But as the old saying says “anything that’s too much is bad”. One thing to consider that greatly affects us is the invasion of privacy. For today’s generation, things that were considered personal a generation before, are all public. Status updates, wall post and tweets yell about every move we make, every step we take and every relation we make or break. We are ourselves violating the sanctity of our personal space in an attempt to keep up with the current fad of publicizing intimate details of our lives for a few minutes of attention among a few hundred people in the virtual world. How healthy a trend is this – is something to ponder over.

What Even the Hell

...Social media, the monster that we have created that has rapidly grown to a size where no one can stop it for good. Social media is defined as an instrument of social communication, or in other words content that is shared by users to other users using freely available websites. The fact is that now it has gotten to this level we will always have these websites and programs around for longer than we can foresee. There will always be another face book site or a new youtube, we simply can’t stop it now. This wouldn’t be such a bad thing if we weren’t so reliant on our social media sites. The obsessive need of Facebook and other social networking sites is completely out of control. It seems as though no one can live without it, it’s almost as if the internet went down tomorrow no one would know what to do. How would we know what events are happening or when people’s birthdays are? How would we talk to all of our friends? There are a lot of obvious alternatives but they have become more of accessories and not fads, such as email mobile phones and in my opinion most of the appeal to facebook is just how many people are using it, if there weren’t over so many people that used facebook every week then it would lose a lot of its power. Facebook has admitted that there are over 5 million people joining facebook every week. Here are some of Facebook’s most recent statistics. There are over 750 million active facebook users, 50 percent of these users use facebook every day. The average...

Communication Generation

...E-mail, or wall posts, this generation has it all right at their fingertips. This type of technology gives one the chance to publicly share their information about both themselves and their daily lives to other online users and friends all across the world. Though this may sound like a wonderful piece of social technology, a huge number of problems have been linked to the children and teens of this newer generation and the Internet. Having the capability to spend a lot of time around a computer while still feeling social has led children and teens to have a mix of behavioral and communication problems in the real world. Not only that, but the Internet has become an instant catalog of faces and personal information that predators jump at the opportunity to use. Health issues and addictive behaviors are also a problem that is now manifesting itself in grade-schoolers who not only use the Internet as a social device but also as a source of daily entertainment. This new generation is quickly loosing its abilities to communicate and participate in the real world as the ever-growing cyber world continues to hold them captive. Paragraph 1 The Internet Web-based social networking has been around since 1997, but originally started out rather user-unfriendly and having minimal interactive technologies. The cyber world refers to this as Web 1.0, the “information-oriented web” (Harrison and Thomas 112). The Internet was mostly formed of static web pages, and worked more for someone who...

...environment, acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to be productive. In addition, so much of our planet rapidly is becoming connected via the Internet so that social protocol has become an intrinsic part of technology- based curriculum. But increasing reports connecting psychologically addictive characteristics to internet use, along with speculation of its negative influence on social functioning, have brought to question the enduring effects of its reform. Educational systems around the world are under increasing pressure to use the new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to teach students the knowledge and skills they need in the 21st – century (UNESCO, 2002). Thus the key concern driving the policy and community interest in the pedagogical integration of ICT is the premise that ICT is important for beginning changes to classroom teaching and learning so as to foster the development of students’ 21st – century skills. Specifically, these skills include the capability to become lifelong learners with a context of collaborative inquiry and the ability to work and learn from experts and peers in a connected global community (Law, Pelgrum & Plomp, 2008). Social computer use is widespread and growing. Current estimates indicate that 149 million people are social worldwide, and that number is increasing at the rate of 12% a month (Suler, 2008). Social Media Era

...The Social Media Era In this era and time, billions of people everywhere in the world are logging into the internet several times a day. Why wouldn't they? Large amounts of people have the internet on their high tech mobile devices, and at the touch of a phone they can check their email, their Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, their financial activities, film times, and on and on. One of these things typically takes up more of a person’s time than the others. Any social networking site or application, whether it is Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat, appears to easily take up the hours of an individual's day. Kids and teens are getting to these sites while they’re at school and when they get home from school. Grown-ups are getting to these websites while they are at work. The people who are married or have kids are commonly deciding to spend time checking their profiles instead of being with their friends and family. Many individuals say we require them to stay in contact with companions. Be that as it may, the benefits don't exceed the issues they cause. Social networking gives teens and grown-ups excuses to be sluggish, overweight, and preoccupied with less important things. The overuse of social media is less beneficial at school, work or in one’s personal life. For these reasons and many others social networking is viewed as terrible for pop culture and should not to be used. Social networking, particularly Twitter, creates dependence. Some may say drugs...

Social Media

...Effect of Social Media on Students Social media has evolved tremendously over the years. It has become nearly a necessity to people around the world. Why take away the social media if it helps us out so much and has made things more accessible? The truth is that social media has become almost as addictive as a drug and a use for chatting and doing things that are not important, when instead people could be out doing important things and building relationships. Social media distorts our views on society and the real world, affecting the way that people communicate and has made us more dependent on a screen than face-to-face. Social media is destroying the social skills of high school and college students for the following reasons including: it causes danger, social media includes cyber bullying, and it can cause personality and brain disorders. The first reason that social media has a bad effect on the social skills of young adults is that it can cause personality and brain disorders. A person on the internet can be everything that they think a person wants them to be to be the “cool” kid. This is a bad habit to develop because students might tend to show a personality that is not them. What will happen when they go out into the real world and communicate? It is plain and clear that they will feel tense and get nervous since being behind a computer screen does not require an individual to face that person and require an automatic reply. On the contrary, when facing a person...
