Why Was Lincoln A Procrastinator

The bloodiest war in America, the Civil War was commenced on abolition. The war needed to end urgently but the fighting between the Confederate States and the Union continued. As Lincoln ran and became president, he tried his best to declare his opinion and solve in-equality. But because he was indecisive, a procrastinator, and relinquished by critics, he shouldn’t be considered “The Great Emancipator.” As “thoughts he may have harbored” (Foner 179), Lincoln struggled with his anti-slavery proposals. He “had cast antislavery ideas but not a coherent antislavery ideology” (Foner 62). Had he been more decisive and self-assured with equality, an expeditious plan could’ve united the states before the war started in 1861. Lincoln was a procrastinator

...conscientiousness and its facets of self-control, distractibility, organization, and achievement motivation. These effects prove consistent with temporal motivation theory, an integrative hybrid of expectancy theory and hyperbolic discounting. Continued research into procrastination should not be delayed, especially because its prevalence appears to be growing. Keywords: procrastination, irrational delay, pathological decision making, meta-analysis Procrastination is extremely prevalent. Although virtually all of us have at least dallied with dallying, some have made it a way of life. Estimates indicate that 80%–95% of college students engage in procrastination (Ellis & Knaus, 1977; O’Brien, 2002), approximately 75% consider themselves procrastinators (Potts, 1987), and almost 50% procrastinate consistently and problematically (Day, Mensink, & O’Sullivan, 2000; Haycock, 1993; Micek, 1982; Onwuegbuzie, 2000a; Solomon & Rothblum, 1984). Slaying the Giants

...Lyn Bell Dr. John Warren Spiritual Warfare Slaying the Giants in Your Life What are the giants in your life? David Jeremiah reminds us that we have giants in our lives like David, Moses, Abraham and others. The giants in our lives have different names of fear, loneliness, doubt, discouragement, failure, jealousy, worry, anger, guilt, and procrastination. Just like the biblical ancients overcame their giants, we too must overcome our giants. In doing so we must allow God to help us in the process in knowing that He is with us and will empower us in overcoming. Fear Fear is a major problem in the land of the giants. This giant comes in so many forms. Fear has gripped us all at some point in our lives. Thousands are affected daily in some type of fear or another. But fear is a common part of the fabric of living. Fear gives us burst of strength and speed when we need and is a good thing in a survival instinct situation. When fear becomes negative it then becomes a phobia. This is when fear and reason does match up. When fear becomes ill rational, it becomes a shackle that bind us and put us into bondage. This bondage will keep us from the routine things in life of working, playing, living and serving God. There are so many varieties of fears. This is a listing of six general categories that we face in fear: poverty, criticism, loss of love, illness, old age and death. When we read the bible we can see that those living in biblical times often were...

...USA $25.95 CANADA $27.95 • W h y do our headaches persist after taking a one-cent aspirin but disappear when we take a 50-cent aspirin? • Why does recalling the Ten Commandments reduce our tendency to lie, even when we couldn't possibly be caught? • W h y do we splurge on a lavish meal but cut coupons to save 25 cents on a can of soup? • W h y do we go back for second helpings at the unlimited buffet, even when our stomachs are already full? • And how did we ever start spending $4.15 on a cup of coffee when, just a few years ago, we used to pay less than a dollar? hen it comes to making decisions in our lives, we think we're in control. We think we're making smart, rational choices. But are we? In a series o f illuminating, often surprising experi ments, M I T behavioral economist Dan Ariely refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. Blending everyday experience with ground breaking research, Ariely explains how expectations, emotions, social norms, and other invisible, seemingly illogical forces skew our reasoning abilities. N o t only do we make astonishingly simple mistakes every day, but we make the same types of mistakes, Ariely discovers. We consistently overpay, underestimate, and procrastinate. We fail to understand the profound effects of our emotions on what we want, and we overvalue what we already own. Yet these misguided behaviors are neither random nor senseless. They're systematic and predict able—making us predictably irrational...
