Wiley Paper
One of the most accurate predictors for good health and wellness is a nutritious and balanced diet. It can be an eye-opening experience to record and analyze what is actually consumed in a particular day. After entering my food intake for a full day into the WileyPLUS iProfile, I discovered that while my diet appears to be healthy, there are a few dietary habits that could be quite harmful if not addressed.
The first step in completing my iProfile Journal was filling out exactly which foods were consumed for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. A crucial aspect of listing this information is specifying the actual amount of each food consumed. It is important to be thorough when completing this Journal, paying particular attention to anything that may be overlooked, such as mayonnaise on a sandwich, or butter on bread.
Upon completion of the Journal, I discovered that my diet was relatively healthful. My calorie intake for the day was 2324 kcal, and with the Daily Reference Intakes (DRI) at 2918 kcal, I consumed 79% of the calories recommended. Although the calories that I ingested from fat fall within the upper ranges of my DRI, it would be a good idea to reduce the amount of fat in my diet, particularly the amount of saturated fat. It is also worth noting that my Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acid levels are at 97%, which is important because they can reduce the risk of heart disease.
According to my iProfile, I am consuming the appropriate amount of carbohydrates, which is important for energy. The amount of cholesterol that I have in my diet is lower than my DRI suggests, which will hopefully lower my risk for clogged arteries, which can eventually lead to cardiovascular disease.
The amount of dietary fiber that I consumed was identified as 30 g, which is

The Great Debaters

...Aaliyah Perry The Great Debaters The Great Debaters is a true story of the Debate Team consisting of four students and their professor from Wiley College, in Marshall, Texas. As an all-black school, Wiley College during the 1930’s trained young minds to believe in themselves and to use their educated minds to change the hearts and minds of society, to establish peace, and maintain human dignity, tolerance and acceptance for all people. No matter the color of their skin, origin of their birth, language they speak, or their occupational role in society. The story of The Great Debaters takes place at a time in America’s history when things were starting to change for both Whites and African Americans. The moral call for freedom, equality, and justice for all was beginning to resonate throughout the country. The students, James Farmer, Jr who was only 14 years old, Henry Lowe, and Samantha Booke, learn to lead through civil discussions using their minds as weapons and not violence. Under the direction of English Professor Melvin B. Tolson, these three students become the Wiley College Debate Team of 1935-36. This film also shows an understanding of how Professor Tolson sees these students potential as individuals and as a team. Progress is made one victory at a time. Under the intense and encouraging guidance of Professor Tolson, the students learn to speak with clarity and confidence. They learn to evaluate their own limitations. Defeat becomes an opportunity by which they...

Future of Printed Books

...What is the future of printed books in the digital age? Marvin Kobek Test Essay Academia.research.com 3rd June 2014 For decades, printed books have been the undoubted medium in which people expressed their thoughts, stored information, transferred knowledge and codified laws. This method of communication dates back 500 years. Before the coming up of the digital age, printed books have been the only source of material available for citizens seeking to access any recorded information, students studying for exams or even for the religion searching for the scriptures[1]. Printed books were the only source of mass media. However, this dependency on printed books has changed. There has been an alteration in the reliance of printed books by the advent of the digital age. Applications such as kindles, internet, and Ipad affect the regularity of use of the printed books. Today, practically every phase of man’s activity is influenced or captured by automation. The variations and the far reaching effect have calls to enquire about the future of printed books in the digital age. The digital age has the birth of technologies that impact the way people organize things. A good example is in the in the music division. People are composing a sound without the usual pianos or guitars but over the means of a device called electronic mixer[2]. When it comes to press, there is the publication...

Two Napoleon Paintings

...Dulce Cambron Ms. Pagliaro Art 1B 23 April 2015 Napoleon Crossing Saint-Bernard and Leading the Army over the Alps There has been many artists throughout the years that have captivated the audience with their works of art and/or sculptures. Some of which still remain in important museums like the Musee du Louvre and the Brooklyn Museum. There has also been many artists of today that recreate past paintings and change the message being delivered to the audience. For example, in 1801 Jacques-Louis David created the painting Napoleon Crossing Saint-Bernard. This painting is now located in the Natural Museum of Château de Malmaison which is 12km from Paris. In 2005, two hundred and four years later to be exact, an artist named Kehinde Wiley created the painting Napoleon Leading the Army Over the Alps. This painting has been placed in the Brooklyn Museum and has become part of their collection. These two paintings are considered to be practically the same thing yet deliver a distinct message, as in the modern version it changes the main character as well as his appearance and message. Therefore, Wiley’s painting is better than Jacques-Louis painting as it expresses a different aspect of humanity being in power. Napoleon Crossing Saint-Bernard was a creation of the early 18th century painter Jacques-Louis David. It took Jacques-Louis around four months to complete this work of art, it was done from October 1800 to January 1801. Posterior to all of the terrific situation France...

The Great Debaters

...(Denzel Washington) at historically black Wiley College to place his team on equal footing with whites in the American South during the 1930s, when Jim Crow laws were common and lynch mobs were a pervasive fear for blacks. In the movie, the Wiley team eventually succeeds to the point where they are able to debate Harvard University. This was their 47th annual debate team. Released in 2007, Denzel Washington’s The Great Debaters was presented to the world in order to tell the story of Wiley College’s debate triumphs. While certain facts were altered for the sake of creating the film, such as the final debate being between Wiley College and Harvard rather than USC, the story of the Wiley College debate team has been a model of and for the Urban Debate League (UDL) Movement. The movie begins with a scene following Henry Lowe that is simultaneously overlaid with a speech given by Dr. James Farmer. The speech is directed at incoming students and covers topics such as maturity and discipline, preaching that “you must do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do” (4:08) Henry is attending a party at a barn where he finds himself in a fight with another man at the party. He threatens to kill the man when he pins him to the ground. At the last moment, Melvin Tolson, a professor and director of the Wiley College debate team, stops Henry from harming the man further. Sometime after the fight, classes begin for a new year at Wiley College. Henry Lowe attends a class taught...

Strategic Management

...Journal of Management Studies 44:8 December 2007 doi: 10.1111/j.1467-6486.2007.00719.x A Modern Resource Based Approach to Unrelated Diversification Desmond W. Ng Texas A&M University abstract For over three decades, the questions of how and why an organization diversifies into related and unrelated businesses have drawn the attention of strategy scholars. However, explanations of unrelated diversification have been less than clear. A conceptual model of unrelated diversification is thus proposed. In drawing on Penrose’s (1959) resource based approach, unrelated diversification is explained by an organization’s ‘three pillars’, which consist of its strength of dynamic capabilities, absorptive capacity, and weak ties. The role of the three pillars is to discover new resource applications or uses in conditions of market failure that are characterized by ‘incomplete’ markets. A novel feature of this model is that an organization can diversify more broadly than predicted by Penrose (1959) and other modern resource-based approaches (Teece et al., 1997). Furthermore, unrelated diversification can be beneficial. This study also offers suggestions to measure the three pillars; its contributions and implications are discussed as well. INTRODUCTION The questions of how and why an organization diversifies into related and unrelated businesses have been a central focus of strategy research (Palich et al., 2000; Rumelt, 1974; Teece, 1982). These diversifications have been defined by the degree...

Comprehensive Grammar Answer Form

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...

How to Write a Good Academic Paper?

...How to Write a Good Academic Paper? That is a question which most students ask and most of them are new to academic writing. Academic writing if taken as a whole, then it would help you figure its significance and what is more important is, it would help you understand the purpose of it. Any good academic writer’s quality is his/her mind is loaded with creative set of ideas that help him navigate through the whole topic of academic paper. Ideas lead you to somewhere and only a few good students are gifted by nature and if you are not then you can also build up a good rhythm of academic writing. Secondly, you should also have a good sense of your audience; you should know what element of your academic writing would entice them and also create some space for your write-up for reading in their schedule. You then research for resources and data that would be of great use to enlighten your readers. Knowing what you audience wants, should be in your priority because readers enjoy what they seek in your writing. Usually what they look out for is something that could either bring them a smile or get them to think over the subject. Having creative ideas doesn’t guarantee a good and well-researched academic writing. You need to able to figure out ways of putting your research in a proper format so that readers don’t feel deviated from the focal point of your write-up.
