Introduction
“Since the early 1990s, large U.S. corporations have adopted corporate codes of conduct. It is unclear, however, whether these self-imposed ethical protocols are anything more than publicity gold, with no legal efficacy.”(Revak, 2012, p.1645). With companies adopt corporate codes of conduct; they require their employees and suppliers to follow these codes and the standards that are set in the company guidelines. In order to succeed the company needs to analyze the ethical challenges that companies face to determine what changes need to be made in order to prevent ethical issues in the future.
Briefly describe your company and then benchmark the codes of conduct used by similar companies in the industry. Critique the codes of conduct of at least three (3) similar companies in order to write codes for your company. Winn-Dixie is a fast growing company in the supermarket industry. In order to write codes of conduct for Winn-Dixie, on must evaluate the codes of conduct of similar companies. When looking into writing them, I will look at Wal-Mart, Target and Kroger’s code of conducts to determine which codes I will need to implement in Winn-Dixie’s codes. Wal-Mart is a multibillion dollar corporation located throughout the world. With over two million employees worldwide, Wal-Mart’s code of conduct needs to be in place to ensure proper ethical behavior is being implemented. “The values that guide our decisions and our leadership are the 3 Basic Beliefs: respect for the individual, service to our customers, and striving for excellence” ("Leading with integrity," 2012). After looking at their codes of conduct it is easy to see that they are adhering to their codes while becoming the largest retailer in the world. ...I most definitely think that Oiler rights were violated. My opinion though really doesn’t matter if this behavior was discussed with Oiler at the start of him employment with Winn Dixie. Depending on the rules and regulation that were set forth by Winn Dixie and gone over with Oiler in orientation he very well may have been in violation of the company’s policy.
