What method of evangelism did you use and how did you start the conversation?
For the last six months or so I have been engaging in servant evangelism with a young lady that is currently incarcerated. I volunteer as a Community Volunteer Sponsor at a minimum security prison in Raleigh, North Carolina. In this capacity, I am granted the privilege of escorting inmates that have earned certain privileges within the North Carolina Department of Correction on what is referred to as Community Volunteer Passes. The inmate is allowed to leave the prison for up to six hours with an approved sponsor and go out into the community to pre-approved locations. For months now, I have been building a relationship with this young lady. I have been putting the “Affirmation” portion of the effective measure of evangelism we have learned referred to as ‘Proclamation and Affirmation ‘into effect. By allowing this individual to see me as a Christian serving her, she has seen that grace is extended with no strings attached. I have asked nothing in return from her and have fostered a loving and trusting relationship based on the love of God with her. Our studies this semester really helped me to be prepared to not just continue to plant seeds but to actually proclaim the good news of salvation. Becoming aware of the necessity to be ready and armed with an approach to convey the message in a non-threatening way made me gird myself up for the encounter. The fear of the reaction disappeared when I saw the need far outweighed any repercussion from the hearer. Planning a strategy in advance and making sure to stay on track and focused were the key. I set up a community volunteer pass as I normally do. However, on this particular night, I decided that we would work on a service project together. So I reserved our

...Witnessing Paper Edwin Alexander Liberty University Online What method of evangelism did you use and how did you start the conversation? I chose as Mister Man as my person to witness to for several reasons. First, he is the offspring of a preacher’s kid and the grandchild of a Baptist minister. I know that he was brought up in the church and that he has been exposed to the gospel; however, has not chosen at this time to accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Today’s conversation started the same as many that we have had in the past. I inquired about his family and how everyone was doing. I then asked him how he was doing and we talked a bit about what was going on with him since he finished his bachelor’s degree in December. He let me know that he was currently pursuing his master’s degree in public relations and that he was doing pretty good as a struggling college student. I asked him if he had been attending church since returning home from school to which he responded, “not really”. I then asked Mister Man, “If you died today, would you go to heaven or hell?” My intent was to use the Romans’s Road method of evangelism; however, after starting the conversation, I realized that this method probably would not be very beneficial for Mister Man. He was already familiar with the scripture and using this structured method for him felt forced and phony. I decided to try conversational evangelism which is conversation for the purpose of sharing the gospel. This...

Witnessing Report

...Liberty University Witnessing Report: 2 Submitted to Dr. Fernando R. Abella In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements of Contemporary Evangelism Evan 525- D13 LUO By Corey Johnson 4/26/15 As we through this class I have learned sharing with others is not as easy as I would like it to be. Although it is not easy I have been committed to doing this regardless of my fears. Sharing with others is a challenge for most people because of the fact that you have to be willing to receive rejection when sharing the gospel. Being that I have committed to develop in this area has put me in some situations that have actually helped me grow. I recently went out of town on a cruise ship which was an experience in itself. I had every intention on relaxing and not really thinking about things back home. The one thing that I did think about was this class, and I knew that if the opportunity arose on this ship I was going to take it. In the back of my mind I thought it will probably not happen but if it does I wanted to be prepared. Sure enough on the first day we got there I had an experience where I was able to share the gospel with someone. What was interesting about this entire experience was the fact that the person I was speaking to actually spoke little English, they understood it but as far as speaking it was a challenge in itself understanding them. This encounter happened in one of my most comfortable places on land and sea and that is in a fitness facility. I was...

Witnessing Domestic Violence

...on problems associated with witnessing violence is in the area of children’s behavioral and emotional functioning. Generally, students using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL); Achenbach & Edelbrock, 1983) and similar measures have found child witnesses of domestic violence to exhibit more aggressive and antisocial (“”internalized”” behaviors), and to show lower social competence than other children. Children from home where their mothers were being abused have shown less skill in understanding how others feel and examining situations from others’ perspective when compared to children from non-violent households. Peer relationships, autonomy, self-control, and overall competence...

My Witnessing Report

...My witnessing report is about a neighbor who was put out the house across the street from me. It all begin when I was sitting on my sister’s porch across the street from my house. The young man who graduated with me came across the street and asked me if I could give him a pop and something to eat. I said, ‘yes”. I went in the house and fix him a sandwich, pick up some chips off the table and went into the refrigerator and got a pop. Then I went back outside on the porch and gave the man the food. He thanked me and gave me a hug. He also asked me if I remember him from high school and asked me if I knew his name. I told him yes. Then he asked me if I knew of any place he could stay. I told him about various facilities that took...

The children of the patient could challenge their father in court. A court battle would prolong any treatment the husband may deem necessary for his wife. The nurse has an obligation to the patient’s family as well as the patient. In the second case study, a nurse is called to testify in a malpractice case in which she had witnessed another nurse being negligent. ...exposure, and effects including depression, difficulties in school and criminal behavior. Most people try not to address poor parenting because it can be a very sensitive topic but, it is very important and lack of conversation or teaching can become an issue. We have all been somewhere and witness a child misbehaving and the parent not reprimanding their child. We have also heard stories of how a child may be being abused or witnessing abuse by a parent, guardian or loved one. A child being bullied or rough housing with siblings may also become an issue. Cursing and fighting around a child can leave a negative impression on them. These are all examples of poor parenting that could potentially be the cause of child violence. Environment and exposure also plays a major role in a child’s aggression. Where a child lives, attends school, and plays all have an impact on behavior. Bystander Apathy - the Phenonenom

...apartment complex by Winston Moseley. The attack lasted over 30 minutes and was witnessed by numerous neighbors. At one point Genovese screamed, "Oh my God, he stabbed me! Help me!" One of the neighbors shouted at the attacker, "Let that girl alone!" Moseley ran away and witnesses observed Moseley enter his car and drive away, only to return ten minutes later. He searched for and eventually found Genovese, who was lying in a hallway at the back of the building where a locked doorway had prevented her from entering. He then further attacked Genovese, stabbing her several more times and raping her as she lay dying. Later, some onlookers stated that they thought they were overhearing a "lovers quarrel" whilst others, who realized that they were witnessing a crime but failed to report it, said they assumed someone else already had. When the killer was apprehended, and Chief of Detectives Albert Seedman asked him how he dared to attack a woman in front of so many witnesses, the psychopath calmly replied, "I knew they wouldn't do anything, people never do" (Seedman & Hellman, 1974). The Five Pillars

...was asked to define Islam. Within a few decades of Muhammad's death, the five practices were singled out to serve as anchoring points in the Muslim community and designated "pillars." Fulfillment of the Five Pillars is believed to bring rewards both in this life and in the afterlife. The five pillars of Islam are the Shahada (witnessing the oneness of God and the prophet hood of Muhammad), regular observance of the five prescribed daily prayers (Salah), paying Zakat (almsgiving), fasting (Sawm) during the month of Ramadan, and performance of the hajj (pilgrimage during the prescribed month) at least once in a lifetime for those who are able. First Pillar The first pillar is to declare with conviction that, there is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His messenger. This declaration of faith is called the Shahada, a simple formula that all the faithful pronounce. In Arabic, the first part is la ilaha illa Llah - 'there is no god except God'; ilaha (god) can refer to anything which we may be tempted to put in place of God - wealth, power, and the like. Then comes illa Llah: 'except God', the source of all Creation.
