Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) is a massive software architecture that supports the communication in a business; that deals with all aspects of a business including sales, marketing, planning and manufacturing.ERP also has been used to assist in inventory control, order tracking, customer service, finance and human resources. ERP systems improve the speed and performance of communication between departments. For example, the financial department can now coordinate with the ordering process of materials in a manufacturing company. This allows those ordering to understand the available money they can use to purchase things. This is much faster then taking the orders to the financial department to check if these purchases can get the go-ahead. The positives to implementing an ERP system are as follows: the ability to effortlessly communicate information across various departments improves efficiency, performance and productivity, improves forecasting and ability to plan for problems or success, and improves customer satisfaction and customer service. The negatives of implementing an ERP system are as follows: customization can be limited, current business process might need to change to fit the ERP system, can be extremely expensive, continuing technical support, and they may be too permanent for new companies or business that are going to be changing.
