The Wolf on Wall Street The movie, The Wolf on Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese is a great movie for many reasons. The Wolf on Wall Street gives a deep message to viewers that reflect on the American Dream although in the movie it tells a story of a corrupted American dream. I definitely recommend The Wolf on Wall Street for its talented actors, the plot, and its unique message it gives to viewers. Having talented actors is the key to a good movie because they contribute to its audience emotions. Many viewers can relate to this movie especially to those who love money. The Wolf on Wall Street takes place in New York in the late 80’s. It reflects to the American dream to corporate greed, Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role of Jordan Belfort. Belfort is an American author, motivational speaker, and former stockbroker who pleaded guilty to fraud and related crimes in connection with stock market manipulation and running a boiler room as part of a penny stock scam. Belfort spent 22 months in prison as part of an agreement under which he gave testimony against numerous partners and subordinates in his fraud scheme.
In the movie The Wolf of Wall Street Belfort goes from penny stocks and righteousness to IPOs and a life of corruption. Excess success and wealth in his early twenties as founder of the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont warranted Belfort the title "The Wolf of Wall Street." Belfort came from mostly humble beginnings, and after getting married, decided he wanted something more than the life he had created thus far for himself. After tapping into his talent to sell, he begins to accumulate a great deal of money. As his wealth grows, so does his propensity to indulge in a variety and quantity of drugs. He soon finds himself having to transport his money across international lines. He waffles back and fourth between helping the FBI, until he is left with no other option. The message The Wolf on Wall Street is very fascinating. It contradicts the real American dream, which is going to college, having a career, and living life to the fullest. The American Dream in The Wolf on Wall Street isn't about becoming middle class and having your kids go to college, it's about becoming ridiculously rich. But the institutions that allow people to become ridiculously rich (Wall Street banks, etc.) are not open to people with the wrong background and without the correct connections and breeding. So in light of that contradiction, the only way for normal people to achieve the American dream is to find something that is in a grey area of the law. Thus the story depicts how Jordan Belfort took a group of losers from Long Island and turned them into sales geniuses that could sell stocks like crazy, many of them penny stocks or scammy IPOs or other schemes. The movie features several scenes where Belfort delivers powerful, motivational speeches to the brokers at Stratton Oakmont (his brokerage) and to some they may recall the famous speech of Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street." But they are actually more similar to Tom Cruise's character in "Magnolia," who gives workshops to losers purporting to teach them how to be as successful as he is with women. Even though they all lack his charisma and good looks.
It makes for an inherently interesting theme of how people who lack resources such as connections, education, social graces, good looks etc. can achieve wild success. This connects with many viewers and gives them motivation.
A perfect cast is very important for a movie. Without a perfect cast the movie will not be able to fetch much profit for its producers. It is the cast of the movie that serves as an appealing factor amongst the audiences who are lured to the cinema halls so that they can have a look of their favorite actors or actresses. The cast of the movie is even more important than the director. The movie is given importance because of its cast and it is the cast that can either make or break a movie. The Wolf on Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio who is best known for playing the main role in the classic movie, Titanic. DiCaprio also stars in The Great Gatspy, Shutter Island, and etc. Leonardo DiCaprio won best performance by an actor in a motion picture musical or comedy and was nominated for best actor. Another amazing actor in The Wolf on Wall Street is Jonah Hill who also stars in an American comedy such as, Superbad, 21 Jump Street, Accepted, etc. Jonah Hill plays Donnie Azoff in the movie. Matthew Mcconaughey who stars in many great movies such as Interseller and Magic Mike also plays a role as Mark Hanna in The Wolf of Wall Street. They are all talented actors who make The Wolf on Wall Street an enjoyable movie.
Costumes and makeup play an important role in visibility and aesthetic. Makeup is necessary for ensuring that the features of an actor's face are easy to see and don't get "washed out" by the bright stage lights. Costumes perform a similar function, since a skilled costume designer will avoid colors and designs that are too pale or intricate to be distinguished by the audience. The Wolf on Wall Street was released in December 2013, for it takes place back in the late 80’s. The production did an amazing job by making it look as they were in the 80’s. The costumes are perfect and all the details through out the movie make it seem real. All the actors in the movie also did a perfect job by having a New York accent as well.
Clocking in at 179 minutes, “Wolf” sets a record as Scorsese’s longest fiction film, but that doesn’t make it his most ambitious or deeply felt. “When the movie is really cooking. Which is often, there’s a feeling that scenes are being held for a few beats too many, that Scorsese and his ace editor Thelma Schoonmaker simply didn’t have enough time to do the elegant fine-tuning they’re accustomed to an impression reinforced by several conspicuous continuity gaffes and badly matched cuts throughout the film”(variety.com). Overall the movie still has good graphics and one cannot tell where the cuts were made.
Overall, I definitely recommend this movie for people over the age of seventeen because it is rated R for sequences of strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and the language throughout, and for some violence. It is humbled and shameless, exciting and exhausting, disgusting and illuminating; it's one of the most entertaining films ever made about loathsome men. Three hours will go by quick and would want to see more after it is over. The Wolf of Wall Street has great production, an extraordinary plot, has very talented characters, and a unique message.

The Wolf of Wall Street: a Sermon on Luke

...The Wolf of Wall Street: A Sermon on Luke Luke 16: 19-31 depicts Jesus telling a parable directed to those who view themselves as loftier than others. Jesus discusses two men in his story- a man named Lazarus and a rich man. One man leads a comfortable life, while the other struggles through poverty. The parable teaches us the way the men live their lives on earth will affect their lives after death. One man resides with Jesus in the kingdom of God, while the other suffers in Hades. The ultimate message of this parable is that not everyone is rewarded with the kingdom of God, but only those who follow Moses, the prophets, and him. This message is applicable in everyday life and is demonstrated in many modern day situations, such as those that arise in the movie The Wolf of Wall Street. Jesus’s message not only applies to the rich man and Lazarus, but to every one of us in our daily lives. To put this in perspective for younger minds, I have examined Luke 16: 19-31 in the popular movie The Wolf of Wall Street, a comedy that dramatizes life of a stockbroker who is obsessed with greed and money. In the beginning of the film, the main character, Jordan Belfort, starts a career on Wall Street and loses his job soon after on Black Monday. At this point of the movie, he is unaware of the “rules” of Wall Street, representing a character of humility, innocence, and modesty. He starts from the bottom, digging for jobs and finds one selling low value stock by deceiving his customers...

Some victims claimed that they have lost all their money savings, others said that the movie showed Belfort as a myth of which triggered them to ask for more actions to have their money and many claimed that these type of movies shouldn’t show these people as heroes instead they should have shown real victims and how they suffer rather than showing the partying, prostitution and drugs. ...Male Representation How Is Masculinity Represented In The Three Example Sources You’ve Chosen? In order to investigate masculinity I will explore three specific examples of media texts relating to the representation of men in ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street film trailer’, the ‘GQ magazine’ and the ‘Sam Smith CD cover’. The first media text I will look at is The Wolf Of Wall Street film trailer released in December 17 2013 by Paramount Pictures. The films storyline is about Jordan Belfort in 1987 (Leonardo DiCaprio) taking an entry-level job at a Wall Street brokerage firm then moving up in the world and becoming a billionaire. Throughout the film Jordan is presented as a dominant leader who has high control over the staff that works for him modelling them into himself to make them successful. He is presented in the trailer as a powerful and wealthy stereotype. This is reflected in the trailer when he Male representation in the film trailer is shown as iconic, money obsessed drug using, sex fanatics. Good and Bad Acting

...stand out from the rest. Every time I see Matt LeBlanc (who played Joey) in something else, I can’t get “How you doin’?” out of my head. I think sometimes there’s a downside to acting so well and being so good at one character, and that is, once it’s over, no one can see you as something different, and its hard for you to find new projects to work on. For me, I can’t see any of the Friends actors playing another role without thinking of their character in Friends. Another example of good acting, is in The Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo Decaprio, Margot Robbie and Jonah Hill were unbelievable in that movie. They completely transformed into their characters, with the accent, walks, and everything. For me, Jonah Hill is the one who did the best transformation. I wasn’t a big fan of his acting, especially because he acted the same exact way in every film he made. For example, the way he spoke and held himself in Superbad was the same way he did in 21 Jump Street. But in Wolf of Wall Street, he was a completely different...

Mpaa

...The MPAA, or the Motion Picture Association of America, is an association that represents six of the major Hollywood Studios. The MPAA is a board of ten to thirteen “average” American parents who are supposed to be representations of the majority of parents in the United States. The requirements for the board are having children between the ages of five and seventeen; two of the board members are required to be of a Catholic or Protestant faith. The board also has to rotate every five years. The MPAA devises guidelines for movies and films while also rating them. The MPAA has its own film rating system to determine what is suitable for certain audiences to watch. The ratings go from G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17. Movies rated G mean that they are suitable for the general audience. PG movies are movies that need parental guidance. PG-13 means you need parental guidance up until the age of thirteen. Movies rated R do not admit anyone under the age of seventeen to watch it without a parent or guardian present. NC-17 movies do not allow anyone seventeen or under to watch at all because the MPAA has deemed the movie obscene or pornographic. An NC-17 rating is sometimes referred to as the death sentence because most theaters won’t play movies above an R rating. Its film rating system is highly arbitrary and laden with blatant sexism. The MPAA’s willingness to rate films and movies that show violence and torture lower than ones that show a woman being pleasured is nothing but misogyny....

...Behind the Lies of Jordan Belfort Abstract Jordan Belfort built one of the most powerful brokerage firms anyone has every seen. His tactics weren’t always ethical but his leadership skills were out of this world. He gained the trust of over 1,000 stockbrokers and was involved in stock issues totaling more than 1 billion dollars (Biography.com, 2014). Introduction Sex, money, and drugs… Society being its own worst enemy, a young man named Jordan Belfort saw an opportunity to pursue one of the most incredible business ventures in the history of Wall Street; hence the nickname “Wolf of Wall Street”. The American dream of a luxurious lifestyle was quickly turned into reality for Jordan Belfort and his close-knit team, which in collaboration built the famous empire of Stratton Oakmont. Starting out owning just over 50% of the company, in 1989 Jordan partnered with a man by the name of Kenneth Greene who received 20% of Stratton (Khalaf, 2014). These two shared a collective aspiration in creating the biggest penny stock firm there was to date. Shortly after, they decided the margins weren’t big enough to grow the company on a corporate level and begin selling stocks to the wealthier percentage of Americans. Starting in the garage of a friends used car dealership, this corporation ran on all cylinders with the understanding of pumping and dumping stocks. (Biography.com, 2014). Wolf of Wallsteet

...The Wolf of Wall Street The Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort, committed a classic pump and dump scam, under the guise of his investment firm, Stratton Oakmont. This crime went on for several years before the company was investigated, closed, and Belfort sent to prison. The following paper outlines this case in detail. The Crime & How it was Committed The securities industry is governed by the Securities Exchange Commission, which exists in part to ensure that the capital markets are trustworthy. When investor trust in the markets is compromised, this makes it more difficult for firms to raise capital. Thus, it is imperative for any country to have securities regulators that ensure a fair and honest capital market system, including the stock market. There are many ways to commit fraud in the stock market, one of which is the pump and dump scheme that Stratton Oakmont committed. The principle is fairly simple. The company buys a large quantity of penny stocks. They then use their brokers to cold call people and convince them to invest. These people, who are usually fairly wealthy but not sophisticated investors, are convinced to put their money into this worthless penny stock. The influx of capital starts to push the stock price upward, so the investors are convinced that this is a good investment – that they are seeing the gains they were promised materializing. Then, when a large enough amount of capital has been gathered, the investment house begins to...

...Looking for shelter I arrived at night, when it was raining. The street was empty; there was not a carriage or light in site. Looking for some shelter I jumped down off my pure black horse and tied it up to the nearest tree and then I started to walk towards the black and rusty gate. I heard a thunder storm heading towards me, so I opened the gate in a hurry. As I did I heard a big long creek. I continued to walk down the muddy and wet path and I saw black crows circling the towers roof tops. I got to the old rotten door and knocked; there was no answer. So I pushed the ancient and rotten door and it swung open. I stepped in side. When I stepped in and a horrible stench came roaring down towards me, I called out “hello” and the only response was the echo of my voice. I started to walk towards the dining area, but on the way I heard a loud bang in a near by corridor. It sounded like something had fallen and smashed then I knew I was not alone. The corridor was completely dark so I collected some dry wood form a near by staircase that had collapsed for a torch, I used what I learnt on the farm to light it. I started to creep towards the corridor with my torch the in my hand, the entrance was made of stone and the half open door that was barely hang on to its hinges looked like it was staring right at me, but I pushed on.
