...invite the reader to continue reading and for a movie, it needs to keep the audience interested the whole time while following a book’s guide. Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail is a memoir of Cheryl Strayed and in 2014 Wild was directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. Wild is about Cheryl Strayed who shared her tormenting successes and life difficulties of thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. The book is written by Strayed, giving her complete control of how the reader should feel about her excursion. Strayed worked in close quarters with the Vallée to help place her words onto the big screen, but in the end Vallée is the one who creates the scenes for audiences. There are extreme differences between the written work and the act-out versions of this self-searching woman who thru hiked the Pacific Crest Trail. Jean-Marc Vallée is challenged when recreating this women’s life for a broad audience, who may or may not have read Cheryl’s book. Vallée brought Strayed’s memories from her book to life and accomplished keeping the plot, theme and showing breath taking views that were so vividly described by Strayed. An important detail to understanding for this analysis it to know what the Pacific Crest Trail or PCT is and the plot of Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. First off, the Pacific Crest Trail is in North America, stretching from the Mexican border to Canadian border, running through three states, California, Oregon and Washington (Michael Lanza). 2,650...

...WG101 4.22.12 Assignment 3 Women In The Pacific During my investigation for this assignment, I visited the ABC Store and the Dollar Discount Store at the mall. I thought about going to a place that was common and popular for many of the tourists that come to Guam, these two stores seem to fit the bill perfectly. As I began my searching’s for representations of Pacific Island women, I was caught slightly off guard by the things that I found. I never really paid much attention before but I was surprised at how difficult it was to actually find products that had representations of Pacific Island Women. I couldn’t help but think it was strange that a tourist store on Guam didn’t have many products that actually showcased the island. I searched for representations of different Pacific women from Fiji, Chuuk, and even Chamorro women but, in reality, there were actually very few things. Majority of the products only portrayed the Hawaiian culture. When I did find some representations of “Guam Women”, it was on this little bag of banana chips and on the front of the bag was a small cartoon rendition of what I assume the manufacturer tried to pass off as an Island Woman of Guam. She wore a coconut bra and a grass skirt. All I could remember thinking was, “What part of this is Chamorro? What part of this is even Guam? All I see are Hawaiian representations. “ Instead of serving to “Polenesianize” the diverse women of the South Pacific, as Berno and Jones stated , I felt as if some...

The purpose of this study was to describe the prevelance of and risk associated with Chlamydia infection among women aged 15 to 24 . Specifically those who reported engaging in same sex behavior and attended family planning clinics in the Pacific Northwest from 1997 to 2005. This study is of great significance because “according to the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth ,11% of US women aged to 44 years reported same-sex behavior in their lifetime”( Singh et al. 2011).[1] In the Perspective On Sexual and Reproductive Health Journal there was an article published “Gonorrhea and Chlamydia Infection among Women Visiting Family Planning Clinics: Racial Variation in Prevalence and Predictors” that examined the disproportional infection rate of black women vs. that of white...

...people need each other to thrive. There are three basic Greek words that describe love that every human goes through. Storge is the first relationship we experience, as it is synonymous to the love as children we have with our parents. The next form of love is created when we know another person on a personal level, which is philia. Last there is the most intimate and highest form of love, which is éros, it is a love that is experienced between two people sexually. This type of love is displayed during a couple’s marriage. This love is the love that majorities of couples in America are allowed to express towards each other publically. The expression of marriage is portrayed through American couples, as men and women. Why do only a man and a woman define a marriage? If we all experience this love then why does it matter whom it is shown to? If someone of the same sex happens to love another person of the same sex whom can justify if these basic rights are unlawful? If we want to legalize same-sex marriage we need to see all the positives and understand why being homosexuality shouldn’t be a form of prejudice. What makes a person love somebody of the same sex? Some people believe that those few individuals that have love for the same sex do it by choice. If a person happens to be homosexual, why would he or she not change his or her sexual orientation to fit the norm of today and get married easily and legally? The answer is simple: people are born into homosexuality not chosen....

...some of the most common theories would suggest that the flight around the world was simply a cover-up for a spy mission, commissioned by President Roosevelt to determine what the Japanese were doing in the Pacific or that she and Fred Noonan, her flight crewmen, weren't merely swallowed up by the Pacific Ocean, but however captured by the Japanese. No evidence to support either of those or any other theory for that matter has ever been established (1). Amelia Earhart (1897-1939) was an American woman aviation pioneer and the finest in woman’s early supporting for equal rights. She was an incredibly intellectual female; entered the seventh grade at the age of twelve, which lead her through her life from childhood to her disappearance on 2 July 1937 (2). Because of her many accomplishments, her capability to always have passion and persistence in aviation and life, and her aptitude to encourage others, Amelia should be admired. The main reason that Amelia should be admired is for her various accomplishments that lead to her success.
