Section 1: Identification and Evaluation of Sources
The question being researched and investigated is “How effective was the White Rose in challenging Nazism ideology?”. This will analyze each White Rose leaflet written by a group of university in Germany within the peak of Nazism, and how they exposed the flaws in this ideology and how others reacted.

The first source being evaluated is Kathryn J. Atwood’s book, “Women Heroes of World War II”, published in 2011 by Chicago Review Press. Atwood writes young adult non-fiction books featuring women who make courageous choices in the midst of war and occupation. She has contributed to War, Literature, and the Arts, PopMatters.com, Midwest Book Review, and Women's Independent Press. Atwood attended University of Illinois at Chicago and majored in English and History. This book tells of influential women during World War II. In the chapter I am focusing on, Atwood writes of Sophie Scholl, a German teenager, who decides to stray off from the Naziest expectations and fight against it along with her schoolmates. …show more content…
The strengths of this source is that it gives insight into the story behind the origin of the pamphlets and goes into great depth about one White Rose member, Sophie Scholl. This is also a weakness however, because the chapter only focuses on one member, it only speaks broadly of the others. This is because the book itself focuses on women during World War II, which is very bias. The year it was published, 2011, is a weakness in itself because about 70 years have passed so the author would obviously not be as knowledgeable about the event if it had been closer

...When I received a copy of James S. Valliant’s book, The Passion of Ayn Rand’s Critics: The Case Against the Brandens, I was a little apprehensive about reviewing it. It seems that every time a discussion commences about the “juicy” bits of Ayn Rand’s sexual and romantic entanglements, it takes on a life of its own, and the discussion never seems to end. Cyber-forums can’t even mention this book without provoking hundreds of rancorous posts among people who are still personally involved in the developments surrounding the break between Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Branden and Barbara Branden. It’s as if the War of ‘68 is still raging. I was fortunate when I came to the study of Ayn Rand. I was eight years old when Rand and the Brandens went their separate ways.
