WORK BASED ASSIGNMENT
VANDA DE FREITAS

THE ORGANISATION IN RELATION TO ITS PURPOSE AND ITS STAKEHOLDERS
Identify your organisation and describe its purpose
England has two different patterns of local government in use. In some areas there is a county council responsible for services such as education, waste management and strategic planning within a county, with several district councils responsible for services such as housing, waste collection and local planning. These councils are elected in separate elections. Some areas have only one level of local government, and these are dubbed unitary authorities. Blackpool Council, the organisation that I work for, is a unitary local authority.
Blackpool is situated along England's west coast by the Irish Sea, and has a population of 142,900, making it the third most populated settlement in North West England, with a population density which makes it the fourth most densely populated district of England and Wales outside Greater London. (Wikipedia, 2011).
Local councils are funded by a combination of central government grants, Council Tax (a locally set tax based on house value), Business Rates, and fees and charges from certain services including decriminalised parking enforcement. They exist to meet the needs of the local population by developing and controlling statutory services and developing additional services to meet the specific needs of the area.
Every council must publish a 'forward work plan' listing when key decisions will be taken.
While the full council (a meeting of all members of the council) is theoretically responsible for all the decisions made - in practice most of the work is delegated to smaller groups of councillors or council officers (paid employees).

Councils have different ways of making decisions. Since 2000 most councils in England have had a small executive group that is

Web Based Lessons

...Web-Based Technology in the Classroom Tiffany Watson American Public University Abstract In 2013 the world has evolved so much, and allows a lot of learning to be done right at home in your night clothes. The internet has a lot of things to offer the students in the classroom also. The students that I work with on a daily basis are really comfortable with using the web to do lessons and though the students move with ease while doing web based lessons there are still some obstacles that the students run into. Three specific obstacles are not having enough computers for students to use, students not having the technological literacy to complete the assignment, and keeping students focus on their work. Every problem has a solution and it would just take a little more effort but these problems could be resolved easily. Good ideas for involving a web based strategy is having the students use Google Docs and create a presentation on the 6 biomes. Children today are growing up in a society where ten and eleven years old children have cell phones. These cell phones can scan, email, fax, video chat, and do a whole lot of other things. The majority of the students that I work with on a daily basis definitely understands and is comfortable with using the web for classwork or homework. As teachers we face challenges getting the students to be a part of the technological integration. Challenges such as not having enough...

...question is what is the pros and cons of group work assignment? What does group work means? Based on my search on the internet, Wikipedia.org it shows me that group work brings the meaning a group of people working together temporarily until some goal is achieved. In supporting the effectiveness of a group approach to learning, Gatfield (1999) cites an empirical study conducted by Sorbral (1997) in one higher education setting which demonstrated that the students working in groups achieved a higher grade point average than those working in a control situation involving individual students If this point is viewed from students the temporary goal could be finishing assignments properly in a given time. Based on my view, group work assignment brings more benefits than disadvantages for university students. But despite its benefits, group work can be one of the most stressful, and emotionally exhausting part of a student’s life. According to Burns and Sinfield. “Many students see only problems associated with working in a group. Perhaps because they never get heard in the group, perhaps because they usually do all the work-whatever the problem, group work makes them unhappy.” One of the advantages of doing a group work assignment is that knowledge can be shared among students. By sharing knowledge, one student can generate or gain more ideas compared to students who works alone to complete certain assignments. To obtain knowledge by sharing, a proper group...
