But the World War 1 did not make the other wars stop because there was still wars going on after the World War 1. After World War 1 there was a World War 2 because there was more wars everywhere and they did not stop having wars because the world could not before and treat the other countries the same, so they fighted for lands and when they won the war and they got the land and then they would go find a other land they wanted and fight for that land intil they won the land. After there are no more lands to fight for they stopped the wars and battles because they had no more lands to have a war or a battle with so the fighting stopped. World War 1 went on for four years because they were fighted for the lands of the United States. They called the World War 1 the Great War that happened for four years. ...Argumentative Essay – Facebook Should the German Government strictly regulate Facebook and Google’s use of your information or is their use of your information simply the cost of your user access to their websites? Construct an argumentative essay to answer this question referencing the two articles you were given on the topic. This essay will argue that the German Government should strictly regulate the use of information by presenting arguments in favour of this thesis, debilitating a counter argument and referencing the articles “Facebook’s Targeted Ads Expand To The Web” by Vauhini Vara and “Germany’s War with Facebook and Google over Privacy” by Heather Horn. Facebook and its broad collection of Facebook user’s data rises privacy concerns. When a person registers, they agree with Facebook’s privacy agreement and allow them to use their data for customized ads and other apolitical purposes that are mentioned in the agreement. But also when someone isn’t registered logged in, Facebook tracks which sides this person visits and saves this data to present them with personalized ads – same as Google. Vara states that Facebook uses people’s names and friends to make an ad more believable. Here, there is the possibility to opt out by following a very difficult path through the personal settings. But this only means that the ads won’t be seen anymore. Facebook will still collect personal information and store all that data. It is really hard to get insight in that process and...

...Writing to Convince Argumentative and Persuasive Essays Sometimes we write to defend an opinion, to argue against somebody’s point of view, or to convince readers why and how we think a certain problem should be settled. The argument we develop should be a logical, properly thought-out presentation of ideas that makes a claim about an issue and supports that claim with evidence. Within this general frame, our argument consists of four basic components: (1) an issue, (2) a claim, (3) support, and (4) a recognition and refutation of the opposing view. A. The Issue. An argument is concerned with an issue – a case (like war, smoking, cloning, etc.) on which people hold opposite or different opinions. To build a convincing argument about an issue, it is essential that we be aware of the audience we are addressing: • Agreeing audience: When you write to people who already agree with your claim, the focus is usually to urge them to take a specific action and build emotional ties with them. • Neutral audience: In writing to a neutral audience, try to emphasize the importance of the issue and offer explanations that clear up your readers’ questions or misunderstandings about, or lack of interest in it. • Disagreeing audience: The most challenging audience combines people whose viewpoints contrast with yours; they may be hostile to your claim and have strong feelings about the issue. In writing to a disagreeing audience, your goal is to convince readers to consider...

Reflection Essay

...Sandhya Pandey Dr. Boone 16 December 2015 Analyzing Before this class, English 110, I was accustomed to writing the traditional five paragraph essay about whatever topic my teacher had told me to take a side on. And as always I had become used to being praised for my argumentative essays. But, English 110 had something completely different in store for me. It challenged me to think beyond my boundaries, and join forces and communicate with the entire class to write about my topic and somehow make connections with them all. In Module I, about the article “writing and thinking analytically” By David Rosenwasser and Jill Stephen really showed me as a writer how to analyze; which was as the class went on was quite a difficult task for me. I had to understand “To analyze something is to ask what that something means” (Rosenwasser & Stephen, 1), I had become familiar with the way my thought process worked, and how I analyzed day to day things. And now I realized that analyzing is something we all do all the time without even thinking about it. And to become a better writer is to “become more aware of your own thinking process, building on skills that you already possess and eliminating habits that get in the way” (Rosenwasser & Stephen, 1). This class helped me to stay away from making judgements and steer closer to asking myself questions and explore outside of just agree and disagree. From doing the different assignments, I really found myself engaging more and...

...fairly well-reasoned argumentative essay. There is more here than arguments—there’s some window dressing and you’ll probably find some slanters here and there as well. You should go through the selection and identify the issues, the positions taken on those issues, and the arguments offered in support of those arguments. Are any arguments from opposing points of view considered? What is your final assessment of the essay? The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, produced a response among American officials, the media, and the public that is probably matched only by the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Since it is the very nature of terrorism not only to cause immediate damage but also to strike fear in the hearts of the population under attack, one might say that the terrorists were extraordinarily successful, not just as a result of their own efforts but also in consequence of the American reaction. In this essay, I shall argue that this reaction was irrational to a great extent and that to that extent Americans unwittingly cooperated with the terrorists in achieving a major goal: spreading fear and thus disrupting lives. In other words, we could have reacted more rationally and as a result produced less disruption in the lives of our citizens. There are several reasons why one might say that a huge reaction to the 9/11 attacks was justified. The first is simply the large number of lives that were lost. In the absence of a shooting war, that 2,800 Americans...

Let's Take a Stand

...Shenice Rolle English 120/16 Dr. Craig Smith Informal Text- based Argumentative Essay Let’s Take a Stand Nicholas D. Kristoff stated, “In the nineteenth century, the central moral challenge was slavery. In the twentieth century, it was the battle against totalitarianism. We believe that in this century the paramount moral challenge will be the struggle for gender equality around the world.” Traditionally, men have always been known as the superior gender, while women were seen as inferior. One would think that since time has progressed and ways of thinking has evolved, the world would now be a place where men and women have equal rights; however, this is not the case. While in some countries women have been granted the same opportunities as men, there are still countries where women have little or no rights at all. Some of these countries include Afghanistan, Iraq, Nepal, Sudan and Pakistan. Consequently, women who reside in these countries run the risk of being punished or even killed, if they were to stand up for their rights. A wise author once said “Great leaders are often defined not by their beliefs, but by how they react when those beliefs are tested to the limit.” Despite the fact that she lived in Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai demonstrated her bravery by fearlessly petitioning for women’s rights and girl’s education. Yousafzai is a sixteen year old girl who was shot by the Taliban for being an advocate for girl’s education. Yousafzai survived the shooting and continues...

Wester Way of War

...WESTERN WAY OF WAR (Name) (Institutional Affiliation) (Date) Warfare plays different roles. It is at times used as a way through which large empires are built. Civil war as another form of warfare is, on the other hand, what leads to the downfall of the empires. All societies and all historical periods have experienced war at one point in time. Different nations or militaries use diverse war approaches and tactics depending on their experiences and goals. Over time, different war approaches have been utilized by various regions across the globe. The Western Way of War has been instrumental in ensuring the long-standing dominance of the western nations all over the globe. In the last two centuries, it has turned out to be the prevailed and used by majority of the globes militaries. The ‘Western Way’ is defined by five main facets, namely: dependence on technological advancement, advanced training and discipline, capability to implement new technological innovations (innovativeness) and strategic vision. These aspects have been attributed to the supremacy of the western culture. A pioneer of war is Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden.1 He is highly regarded as an exceptional commander. Under his tenure, Sweden became very powerful, and his battles were won through innovativeness, superb and effective weaponry, impeccable training and government support.2 Gustavus Adolphus is arguably one of the highly respected generals owing to his outstanding military expeditions during his era...
