I did this by using the streak method to apply each microbe to an enrichment culture. The enrichment culture provides conditions to enhance growth of a species. Obataining a pure culture makes it easier to identify and study a particular species. The macconkey agar plate which is used to isolate and differentiate members of the enterobacteriace based on its ability to ferment lactose. Macconkey agar w/o crystal violet or bile will only grow gn rods which inhibits the growth of gp cocci. Columbia can agar plate which is a medium that allows growth of gp orgs especiall staphylococci, streptococci, and enterococci and inhibits the growth of gn orgs. After both plates where streaked they where incubated at 35 degress celcius for 48 hours. The Gram Stain Next I performed a gram stain to detect differences between microbes or differences in structure of the same microbe. This being my first time I ever gram stained false results could be because of poor staining techniques. Usina a modern light microscope I observed each microbe that grew on its agar plate of interest. I choose this option for the living write up experiment because I feel like it is very out of my comfort zone. Violating social norms is not something that people do on an everyday basis and after completing this experiment, I feel as if we should. Of the five behaviors to choose from, I chose to get into an elevator that is crowded with complete strangers and introduce myself once the elevator doors closed. The worker had the impression that they were under a time constraint. The performance of the worker was usually kept constant until the last 5 or 10 drawings of cards, which is when the worker felt the pressure to draw cards faster. Another cause of variation was the shuffling of the worker. If the worker didn’t shuffle the cards thoroughly it would result in a varied outcome from normal results. This variation is considered a normal cause for variation because as the time constraint became more noticeable the workers would shuffle differently. This occurred more on the last few draws each round. One special cause occurred when the professor walked over to our workstation and had a conversation. This distracted the worker and simulated a special cause for variation. It was about 5 degrees and a light onshore breeze, the forecast was for the wind to gradually pic up then drop off throughout the day, not amounting to much only about 8 knots. There was to be 4 races scheduled on the saturday as there was unpredictable wind on the sunday. We launched fairly quickly and made our way out to the start line, we where starting in the blue fleet so we where second start and had plenty of time to set up the boat and work out the line bias. We didn't have the best of starts in the first race and sailed in dirty air throughout the first beat and so therefore rounded the first mark about 35th (which was really near the back of the fleet) we where really determined to make up some places so we really put our heads together and managed to take 10 boats on the downwind leg and a further 5 on the finish line to secure a 26th which we weren't to happy with to be honest and we knew we needed to change the way we tackled the fleet. We made a few changes and started the second race fairly well at the pin end and then worked our way to the right side of the course which seemed to pay.
