Abstract
When it comes to global criminology, the subject is fatal in the sense of reprisals accustomed to it. In any case, international criminal activities are largely based geopolitical factors rather than the genuine purpose of ending human to human barbarism. This paper will attempt to prove that ‘global community’ commitment to end genocide events is categorically challenged by lack of sufficient devotion to ‘the pledge’ to eradicate the vice. The paper is structured into three main parts and one secondary part. The background will attempt to examine the scholarly effort attempting to relate the basis of global community pledge and the general act of genocide. A further sub category of this part will introduce the role played by United Nations in minimizing genocide. The second section will be substantial in analyzing past genocide events; courtesy of three relevant examples, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Rwanda. In this section, the document will examine the various roles played by United Nations in fueling the genocide. The third section will examine 21 century events, and how United Nations has chosen a back player in preventing the occurrences of these genocides. The secondary section will attempt to examine the role played by International Criminal Court and how it has been challenged in limiting genocide events.

Experiences as a Writer

...Experiences as a writer My experience as a writer is very limted. As a mechanic and seeing that this is my first time attending college I do not have much experience. The only time have to dedicate to writing is when I’m off from work. I am usually writing about my feelings for my loved ones in a journal. When at work I am required to write reports on the equipment and the functions of the machines. At school I am allowed to expand my knowledge for writing. My feelings towards writing are mixed. On one hand I enjoy writing but, because of my lack of knowledge and my busy schedule I do not have time to fully dedicated myself to it. To me in order to write u have to have a feeling towards it, and truly understand what you are doing. I believe that you cannot simply jump into writing it has to be learned over time and practice in order to become a good writer. My experience from writing comes from my journal entries that I try to write in every day. I believe that is going to help me become more adjusted to writing in a class room. My bad experiences with writing come from when I was in high school. I was not a very good writer and it showed in my grades. I do believe it’s because of I lacked the passion to write. So that taught me that whenever I pick a topic to write about it has to be sometime that I could relate to as closely as...

Experience as a Writer

...Writing is a skill set. I consider it one of the basic fundamentals that make up one’s individuality. Writing can be exciting for some and frightening for others. I do enjoy writing, but I am often concerned when I have to write. Writing is a major part of my life, ranging from responding to a guest at work to emailing my attorney about my case. My desire to learn and ability to adapt to the writing process will make me a better writer long term, which will turn this weakness into a strength of mine. I do consider writing a concern of mine. I find myself getting uncomfortable when I have to write. First, I have a hard time starting; I just don’t know where to begin. Secondly, in my opinion, I came up through a poor educational school system in New Orleans. I believe I was not taught the proper way to speak English, nor was I able to write it proficiently. Being a native from New Orleans, I spoke with an unusual tongue that resembles street slang or jargon. I then found myself writing how I spoke. Another problem that I have a hard time with is properly identifying grammatical errors. Since I cannot remember the rules or retain the information to correct errors, I will miss it in my writing or someone else’s writing for that matter. I will begin writing in one form and tense then shift to another form and tense and not notice a difference. This is one reason why I get uneasy about writing. One day while I was at work, the hotel had a pipe burst in a guest room. The room filled...

Becoming a Writer

...Russell bakers essay on becoming a writer stuck out to me in particular. I believe the reasoning behind this is his main emphasized point. Which was that English and literature itself was boring too him, however because he believed he had a skill for it, his desire to be unique with purpose was fulfilled. Ultimately the authors’ main intention in my own opinion was to compose an auto biography of sorts, to reminisce on his first step in becoming the person he is today. His audience is a little bit trickier to pick out, but if I had to put my finger on it, I would say without a doubt in my heart that his targeted audience was all the high school students who feel like English class is as bad as pulling teeth. He clearly intended to explain that he was no different than every other normal high school student, and then one day one assignment and one teacher, changed his entire future and outlook upon his own future. For this very reason he kept a very delightful tone throughout this writing. He almost conveyed a sense of wonder and joy at the very thought of that essay he wrote and the emotion he poured into it. Although the author had obviously plenty of emotions he was hoping to express through this essay, I feel obligated to shed light on my own. I feel pure happiness warming my heart and rushing through my chest and veins at the very basis of what happened in his story. To me, this story showed that everyone has a purpose and that with a little bit of open mindedness the universe...

Becoming a Writer

...BECOMING A WRITER January of 2011 was the beginning of a special adventure in my life as a student. I took an English class 0890, at Utah Valley University. Now, in the last days of this class, almost four months later, I can look back and see myself with a lot of problems in my writing that needed to be fixed. These four months in this class have helped me solve many writing challenges. I am far from perfect in becoming a good writer but I have learned that hard work and perseverance can produce wonderful results. Even though I learned many things, the three man points that I want to talk about are the following: quote analysis scaffold, grammar, and research online. The first month of the English 0890 class was intense, the students had to do a special analysis writing exercise called “Quote analysis scaffold”. It is the developing of many skills in one exercise. It helps develop reading and vocabulary comprehension. After the quote analysis scaffold is made, it can be used in the essay as a hook or concluding thought. We ended up doing around ten of these exercises. After writing the quote, provided from the teacher, this analysis was made from the following steps: The first thing was to do a research online about the author and make two to three sentences, on average, about who he was and what were his major contributions to society. Second, the students had to look for unknown words and their definition in the dictionary. After this, the third part was for the students...

Experiences as a Writer

...My Experiences as a Writer Thus, I wrote about my life, the summer vacations or silly, imaginary things. I felt intimidated by the prospect of having to fill a page as much as by the endlessness of those first minutes I needed to find a start over than, “Once upon a time.” I like to write. My first experience as a writer started in elementary, around age 12 when I wrote a story. Every now and then, during English class, we were told to write. As I recall, the assignment mostly was to “write about anything” which was very exciting. My Aunt Carol helped me plans ideas for my story. Then, we sat to write down what we had processed. My story was coming together very well. My story was a great, it was about a haunted house out in the country. This is where my writing took off. When I received my paper back from the teacher, she gave me an A on my story. Everyone in my family was so happy for me. My experience as a writer has been extensive. Currently, one writes extensively for school purposes, personal, and as a hobby. For example, I write for my online English and Math classes, whether its discussion threads, questions or essays. One of my experiences that has been bothering me inside since I was a child, it was the sex abuse I encountered as a child. Like many of us, if sex abuse has not happened to you, sex abuse is an ugly thing for a child to go through. Kids at school found out, and started making fun of me. That to me was the...

Staff Writer

...Chapter Two: Staff Writers & Story Editors STAFF WRITERS – AN OVERVIEW “Staff writer” is a specially defined entry-level position with specific MBA provisions that allow showrunners to hire you at a minimum of cost and risk. You are on virtual probation to prove yourself a viable member of the in-house team. Currently, you won’t receive an on-screen credit as a staff writer on most shows unless the Company agrees with the WGA to certain conditions. (Call the WGA Credits Dept. if you have questions.) Through WGA rules, you are given a week-to-week contract, which can run six, 10, 20, or 40 weeks. The shorter the guarantee, the more you will be paid per week. If this is your first professional writing job, your employer may have opted to hire you at a lesser amount as part of the WGA incentive plan to encourage showrunners to hire brand-new writers. (See Appendix 6 for contract minimums.) The key concession in accepting a staff writer position is that, unless negotiated otherwise, you will not be paid extra for scripts you write for the show, even though everybody above you is paid full script fees on top of their salaries. The usual arrangement is for you to be hired to write one script, with your script fees being credited against your weekly salary. If you are lucky enough to write more than one script, your script fees continue to be credited against your weekly salary. If, at the 18 end of your tenure on the show, you have earned less in weekly salary than you would’ve...

Experiences as a Writer

...In the past 5 years, I have been using my opportunities for writing in my work environment. I work in a Mini Medical Health insurance company where I have to communicate with not only my co-workers but the clients. A lot of my writing is done through emails and billing. I also write letters to our patients who are also members, notifying them of any problems regarding their insurance. Another form of writing I do through out the week is discussion questions for my English class and my Math class. The discussion questions are usually about what we learned that week. One example of the discussion questions would be, “How would I improve in my writing”? Another example would be, “How does mathematics affect our lives?” Also, I would respond to one of my classmate’s answer and give them my feedback on what they wrote. I know that writing is used a lot in the business world and that I need to improve in it because I am not very good at writing. It is hard for me to come up with ideas and conclusions. Writing also sometimes is confusing for me when it comes to using certain words in writing. An example would be remembering when to use the words” there” and “their”. One is talking about a place and the other about a group of people, but sometimes I use it incorrectly in my writing. What I would do in that situation is look it up in a dictionary to make sure I use the correct word in the sentence. There was once a time when I wrote an email to my boss and I did not proof...

Analysis Of The Inspired Writer Vs. The Real Writer

...In the three articles Allen, Irvin, and Bunn talk about writing in two different ways. They talk about it in how schools have taught us and by ways other than this. The first article “The Inspired Writer Vs. the Real Writer” talks about some of the misconceptions about writing and writers. The author Sarah Allen talks about her first experience in teaching a first year writing and how her students taught differently about writing In the second article, “How to Read Like a Writer” the author Mike Bunn discusses how to use what we read to our own writing. He talks about how when he read in the theater he worked in and realized just how the writer wrote “one word at a time—was exactly the same way that the author had written the text.” (Bunn...

Experiences as a Writer

...Throughout my twenty-one years of life, I’ve had plenty opportunities to write papers. Before I start the process of writing a paper, I sit down and think about what my topic should be then I come up with a thesis statement. I come up with my thesis statement first because for me, it’s hard to think of one after I complete my paper. It’s easier for me to come up with a thesis statement first and then I can branch off ideas from that. Once I come up with my thesis statement and come up with ideas to mention in my paper, I begin to write. In my papers, I sometimes tend to branch off to a different topic or I put more details into my explanation than I have to. I also think that I put way too many examples in my paper and by doing that it will lose focus of what my paper is actually about. I think that revising is something that needs to happen every time you write a paper. I even think that it should happen after every few sentences you write so you can catch your mistakes as you go. Getting someone to revise your paper is helpful. You can get a second opinion from someone else and it’s helpful to know what you can improve on. You should always figure out who your audience is going to be before you write your paper because that is very important. By figuring out who your audience is beforehand will help you on how you should approach them in your beginning statement. When it comes to your audience, you normally want to persuade them and get them to understand your...

Communication - Writers to Readers

...Communication – writers to readers In order for writers to communicate with their readers, they use different language in a way that links to their specific audience. For example, a news journalist will use different language to what a beauty magazine journalist will use. Using different language can affect many different aspects, such as creating a relationship and influencing their readers. The writer must also adapt his/her style, tone and clarity to the reading audience to ensure they communicate well. One way language is used to affect the audience, is the formality of it. The formality of language should match the formality of the situation and the relationship between the writer and reader. For example, when someone’s writing an email to a friend, it will be rather informal. Email tends to be written less formally, often with sentence fragments, poor punctuation, and with lots of abbreviations. A good example of formal pieces of writing would be gossip or music articles. Although the subject matter wouldn’t be too serious or too important, the writing still has to have a professional tone to it, to make sure every reader understands the writing and will want to carry on buying the magazine, so, the writer will make the article formal. Newspaper articles can be seen as formal or very formal, depending on the subject, but all in all, it’s the news and it has to be written in a highly professional and clear way. A letter or a CV/Covering Letter can be a good example of...

Freedom Writers

...Freedom Writers Self-concept is the entirety of one's beliefs and attitudes towards their personal existence. Many people, depending on life experience, feel they have superiority or are at a disadvantage because of the group they fall into. This is seen in the movie Freedom Writers, each and every student has their own perspective on their own self-concept. These students end up finding similarities between each other because they have some sort of connection but only find it once they learn and open up about their struggles. There are many concepts of the self that can be found throughout the entire film.   Empathy is one of the major concepts of The Freedom Writers.  Empathy is the ability to put yourself into another person’s experience and to completely understand the other’s thoughts, feelings and way of being. (P.78) An example of empathy is when Mrs. G reads the journals and can really put herself into their shoes and really understand their individual experiences.  If Mrs. G didn’t have a strong sense of empathy for the students, she never would have been able to help them conquer their personal demons.               Mrs. G used a strategy called identity management to connect with the students.  Identity management is when communicators use certain strategies to influence the way others view them. (P.81) An example of this is when Mrs. G plays Tupac in an effort to relate to the kids in the class.  She hopes to have them see that they may have something in common...
