Have you ever found yourself in a desperate situation where you're struggling to make ends meet and gone up to someone that you taught would always be there for you and they end up betraying you? Or have you ever made a really big sacrifice that can change your life ?These are things that the bonus marchers had to go through. They were world war1 veterans , they went to fight and risk their lives for our country and when they came home they found out they were being cheated out of money and later end up having to face the great depression . America was not prepared when it entered world war 1 in 1917. 18 months after arriving in france in june 1917, about 100,000 soldiers were killed ,and 200,000 wounded or gassed. It was a brutal fight , and when they returned they discovered that men who stayed and worked in the arms factory made ten times more than a soldier. In the summer of 1932 , during the great depression , an army of 45,000 world war 1 veterans marched on washington D.C. They believed that if they they came to congress , they would give immediate payment of bonds that they had been promised for the loses that they suffered during world war 1 , but congress refused to pay the the bonus. 2 weeks later House of representatives passed the bonus bill. The veterans were so happy they thought they were going to get money and be able to provide for their families. June 17, 1932 , they assembled on capitol hill to maintain a visual on who was about to vote on the bill.Sadly they vetoed the bill and the veterans were disappointed but we're not going to give up. July 16 was the last day congress was in session , thousands of angry veterans surrounded the capital . Hoover ordered the evacuation of the bonus marchers . Cops and the army went to remove them harshly . They used gas , force , and were burning down buildings. In november 8,1932 Franklin delano roosevelt was elected
