This inevitably caused the market to be characterized by scarcity. Now on the other hand a modern supply chain is focused more on meeting the constantly changing needs of the customer. This is due to the fact the today’s customer wants more options in product offering. Operational performance and transportation capacity has come a long way and has become more reliable. With technology continuously advancing the need to maintain inventory has declined and customer’s orders have been able to be completed within faster times.

Traditional service providers such as warehousing and for-hire transportation specialize in their specific functions. For example the companies who are offering warehouse services are typically called public warehouses and they provide storage supplemented by specialized services.
