Enron was an energy trading company formed in 1985, based in Texas and employed around 21,000 people-before it went bankrupt. Fraudulent accounting practices allowed it to become one of the largest companies in the US. Enron invented the trading of communications, power, and weather securities. It dominated the trading and instead of being successful, it became the largest financial scandal in history as a symbol of well-planned corporate fraud.
Enron created the phony California electricity crisis. There was never a shortage of power in California. Phone recordings between Enron traders and California power plant operators reveal the traders asking plant managers to "get a little creative" in shutting down plants for "repairs." About 30 to 50 percent of California's energy plants shut down as suggested by the traders as Enron drove the price of electricity nine times higher.
By November 2001, after a series of scandals associated with their accounting practices, Enron stood at the edge of the largest bankruptcy in history. Enron was thought to be a blue chip stock but there bankruptcy caused a terrible event in the financial world.
The executives at Enron were indicted on different charges and were sent to prison. Employees and stockholders lost billions of dollars, while the lawsuits provided very little money in return. Because of this scandal, new regulations were developed to improve the reliability of the financial reporting and require the accounting firms to be independent of their clients. The regulations should prevent the scandal experienced with

Persuasive Essay On Kids And Mature Video Games

...Kids and Mature video games. Video games have gotten very popular over time, although some kids cannot enjoy certain games because they aren't old enough, I believe that is not fair. Kids should be insisted to play shooting video games because it can greatly improve physical and emotional hand eye coordination. Minors should be able to buy any game they want by themselves, only person that should be allowed to say no is their parents. Finally there is no correlation between video games and video games, video games do not entice kids to kill or be violent. Many believe minors should be monitored when it comes to video games, I disagree. Recent studies have shown that in fact shooting video games improve hand eye coordination. I am living proof...

Social Media Destroys Communication

...it came to light that she’d been holed up in her dorm room, crying and showing signs of depression — a completely different reality from the one that she conveyed in texts, Facebook posts and tweets. As human beings, our only real method of connection is through communication. Studies show that only 7% of communication is based on the written word and a staggerring 93% is based on nonverbal body language. Evidently, it’s only when we can hear a tone of voice or look into someone’s eyes that we’re able to know when the typical response of “I’m fine” doesn’t mean they’re fine at all. Goodmorning Ms.Phillip and class. Today, I would like you to ask yourself at what cost has technology replaced personal interactions? and I will present the reasons why the use of social media is sabatoging the ability of teenagers to properly communicate with one another. First and foremost, texting as a form of regular communication is dangerous, because how well can one communicate via text?Yes, it`s quicker than calling or getting together with eachother but because of sacrificing time for convenience, we miss out on the flow of conversation. Without the face to face interaction, we don`t get to listen to the tone of their voice, or watch the change in their facial expressions or the movement of their gestures. In doing so, we are limiting ourselves to express our thoughts in a set amount of words on text and a complete lack of emotion, which can lead to misinterpretation....
