JT1: Write about 5 things you do every spring?
Since this is our first journal topic I feel I need to describe myself a bit. I am 27 years old, I am originally from Brownsville, TX and there is not a day I do not miss it. I moved here for a better opportunity and with that I have found better opportunity. I have started class at ITT and I found a full time management job in my career field. I have two kids (animals) which I call my own. Emma and Squeaks are my pride and joy, one cat one dog there is a never dull moment in my family. I am grateful for all of our seasons, some only have one or two. I can’t say I love spring but it does have a plus for the great weather. My spring adventure can be a bit boring at times, in a sense that I hate heat! I am a fall/winter type of girl, but who can go wrong with sitting by the pool! If I had to tell someone about my spring would have to start off with the Comal River. It is located in San Marcos, Texas, right next to Schlitterbahn. Floating this river takes about three hours to go all the way around their route. During this trip you can drink, swim, relax, enjoy the shoots, and jump off the trees and stones. The river is about 10 feet deep some parts may be deeper. This trip to the river always turns into a family vacation to visit my father and sister who both live there. After the river would be our family ranches. Second would be the beach, feeling the sand between your feet can be a huge stress reliever. I am originally from Brownsville, TX which is located fifteen miles from South Padre Island. I miss it every day and I usually save a trip back home just to go to the beach. Third would be our ranches, we are huge hunters in our family. We own 2 fully functional ranches and 2 non-functional. Functional and non-meaning that functional contains water, electricity, and board. The non-functional is just a piece of land just for bird hunting. I stated hunting at a young age and have grown to love it, from the guns to riding 4 wheelers. My next adventure would be fishing, we take trips sometimes to Canyon Lake, Rockwall Marina, and South Padre Island. We tend to always wait for a family trip to go all at once but sometimes it can be two of us. I am a big family person and I like to think that family or friends always make any trip better. Having loved ones near can make any situation good or bad great. The last one would have to be just being at home and enjoy what I have done and look back at where I used to be. I have not had the best past but these events were only my fault and no one else. Sometimes I just like to sit/ lay in bed all day long not doing anything and just be lazy.

Freakonomics-Expanded

...FREAKONOMICS A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything Revised and Expanded Edition Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner CONTENTS AN EXPLANATORY NOTE In which the origins of this book are clarified. vii PREFACE TO THE REVISED AND EXPANDED EDITION xi 1 INTRODUCTION: The Hidden Side of Everything In which the book’s central idea is set forth: namely, if morality represents how people would like the world to work, then economics shows how it actually does work. Why the conventional wisdom is so often wrong . . . How “experts”— from criminologists to real-estate agents to political scientists—bend the facts . . . Why knowing what to measure, and how to measure it, is the key to understanding modern life . . . What is “freakonomics,” anyway? 1. What Do Schoolteachers and Sumo Wrestlers Have in Common? 15 In which we explore the beauty of incentives, as well as their dark side—cheating. Contents Who cheats? Just about everyone . . . How cheaters cheat, and how to catch them . . . Stories from an Israeli day-care center . . . The sudden disappearance of seven million American children . . . Cheating schoolteachers in Chicago . . . Why cheating to lose is worse than cheating to win . . . Could sumo wrestling, the national sport of Japan, be corrupt? . . . What the Bagel Man saw: mankind may be more honest than we think. 2. How Is the Ku Klux Klan Like a Group of Real-Estate Agents? 49 In which it is argued that nothing is more powerful than information,...

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...
