Explore the health and fitness requirements of different public services
Metropolitan Police Requirements To become a constable in the metropolitan police you must meet a certain criteria to be considered. These requirements are:
-Eyesight requirements, eyesight is very important for a police officer to have. If you have poor eyesight in the metropolitan police you will struggle and it will put you in more danger when patrolling. If you are not able to spot things from a long or short distance then it may lead to you being useless in those situations.
-Hearing requirements, hearing is necessary because if you are partially deaf then you will not be able to interact with the public properly. It can also cause you to be slower at learning things if you cannot hear what the officer teaching you is saying.
-Diet & Bmi requirements, diet and BMI is of the upmost importance since Bmi dictates how healthy you are by multiplying you weight by your height and dividing that answer to get your Bmi. You would then check on
-Fitness requirements
-Health conditions & medication usage
The metropolitan police take pride in its officers and staff, and have to make sure that the people they employ are capable as they fill jobs that can be tough and demanding and as a result all new recruits need to be fit and healthy. The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) checks this by way of a medical assessment and Job Related Fitness Test (JRFT) as part of the recruitment process for new police such as constables, special constables, volunteer police ,police community support officers and designated detention officers. You will be asked to complete a confidential health declaration and attend a medical assessment to check your hearing, eyesight, urine, blood pressure, height/weight and breathing for these roles.
The main fitness tests the metropolitan police have to go through to pass their selection is the Endurance test (bleep test). You will be asked to keep running between two points which are 15 meters apart. The speed you must run is dictated by a bleep, and the time allowed to run from one side to the other will get shorter as the level increases. This endurance test is in place to make sure that the people who are hired by the metropolitan police, have enough stamina to keep up with criminals, or to be able to fight or get in a tussle with a criminal and be able to restrain him until back up arrives, which usually takes 15 minutes. These requirements are necessary because they enable the officer to work more productively and qualify you to be able to keep up with the demands of the everyday job.
I will now talk about the different strengths and weaknesses that each one of these health and fitness requirements within the metropolitan police have.
Strengths:
Test of pushing and pulling power tests the sheer strength the recruit has and if they have enough strength to be able to restrain and tackle criminals. It measures how much strength they have and is normally called Dynamic Strength test. The dynamic strength exercise involves performing 5 seated chest presses and 5 seated back pulls on a piece of equipment called a "dyno". The average force of the 5 pushes/pulls will be your recorded score. During this element you will have the opportunity to perform 3 practice pull/pushes immediately followed by your 5 recorded attempts. To pass your recorded 5 attempts need to average over 35kg of pulling power on the pulling test and then 34kg on the push test. This test is good because it measures as I said your Dynamic Strength and the set requirements are in place to replicate how much strength you would need in an actual situation and for that reason this test is useful for met police recruits. Another strength is that the police fitness test has become progressively easier over the past 5 years and the requirements have been set a lot lower so that people with a basic level of fitness should be able to pass it with very little training. This in theory is good because it allows a lot more people in to the police force and increase their manpower and workforce.
Weaknesses:
Although the fitness tests are set low to allow more people to join the metropolitan police, I believe that the requirements are set far too low as to pass the Endurance Shuttle Run which is one of the main fitness tests to get in to the met police and is used across many different public services. I am certain that these requirements are set too low because you only need a level of 5.4 on the test to pass which equates to running 3 and ½ minutes which is practically nothing if you compare the met police to any other public service. Another weakness the met police have in their health and fitness requirements for joining the service is the lack of variety in the fitness side. They realistically only have two fitness tests that you have to pass which does not really measure a recruits fitness levels properly as some people are stronger in certain areas rather than others. It does not really give the service an insight to how much the recruit can cope with.

Recommendations to improve:
There are many different ways that the metropolitan police could improve their fitness and health requirements thus improving the working standard of the employees.

...The Pros and Cons of Genetic Testing: The link of the pros and cons of genetic testing was placed forward not ot argue either way of ya or nay of one side, but more to inform the reader of the advantages. The most important message to take away from this passage is genetic testing is a choice. Whether the author believed genetic testing to be moral or immoral has no place in this article. Genetic testing has many advantages such as early detection of mental and physical defects of a child before birth. This gives parents a way to either terminate the pregnancy to avoid paying the extra money because of low wages or no insurance or to avoid the child going through a life of suffering. It also gives the family time to prepare if they so should choose to keep the child. The article concludes by informing us nothing is certain. You could have a perfectly healthy child that passes with SIDS or have an unhealthy child that live to a lengthy age, which leaves some room for doubts and disadvantages of genetic testing. The textbook explains genetic testing by using the term Genetic Counseling which helps potential parents know the likeliness of having a child with a genetic or chromosomal disorder. The book references counselors being well trained to asses responses from potential parents. Words such as facts, risk, and probability are viewed as sensitive words, and the doctors should be trained well to not mislead and or help to cope with words such as these. There are also 2 ethical...

..."Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." This quote was told by the famous philosopher George Santayana. History means the study of past events especially in human affairs. There are many types when it comes to history there is cultural history, military history, history of religion and much more. Historians write in the context of their own time, and with due regard to the current dominant ideas of how to interpret the past, and sometimes write to provide lessons for their own society, and till this day historians discover new things of the past human life. The historians specify their studies depending on geographical location and time period. People must have a background about history to know who they are and where they come from without history it's like a person with no identity. It is very important for people to learn history because people can feel connected, and learns from the past, and information will help with daily life and careers. History makes the people feel connected and give them an identity. This is through studying the past life of your ancestors' culture, habits, religion, and their philosophy of life and also the environment they have lived in the past. It also gives them sense of connection to the place, time and community, and a historian once said : "The destruction of the past or, rather, of the social mechanisms that link one's contemporary experience to that of earlier generations, is one of the most characteristic and...

Business Management

...Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. Company Background Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. (HHYY) was founded in 1993 by two business school graduates who thought there ought to be alternatives to the video game craze. Searching for a toy that could have mass market appeal they settled on yo-yos. Yo-yos have a nostalgic appeal to the baby boomer generation and are a novelty plaything for generation X. So, the main marketing thrust of HHYY is directed toward parents and grandparents rather than to the children who will actually play with the yo-yos. The latest advertising campaigns show 50-ish men competing in 1950’s era yo-yo competitions, grandmothers showing their grandsons how to do yo-yo tricks, and pre-teen girls trying to get their yo-yos away from their dads who are monopolizing them. This advertising campaign has been highly effective. After a couple of rough start-up years, HHYY achieved profitability in 1996 and has seen sales and profits increase each year since then. HHYY is a closely held Subchapter S Corporation with all the stock being held by the founders and their family members. The founders, John Cooper and Juan Martinez share the position of Office of the CEO. John is also the Chief Operating Officer (COO) while Juan is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). ...had to stop. My breath became short, my heart pounded and my legs gave way. A shower of bombs hit the side of my house. The force of the blast threw me to the ground! There are streets being bombed right this minute; I’m scared. Mama and Papa told me that everything is going to be ok, but I’m still scared. They said that I have to be evacuated out of London soon; I have to go somewhere far away. I will miss them dearly and I’m sure they will miss me too. I’m only 13 but my mama can’t come with me, she said that Churchill our prime minister made up the rules. I have mixed thoughts about being evacuated; I am worried about the type of people I am going to stay with and whether they will care for me or not, however, I love the countryside as it is very peaceful and quiet unlike the streets of London!! I’m going to bed now, speak soon. Mary. Dear diary, November 1, 1940 From late last night until early this morning, I witnessed some indescribable events. Armed soldiers and police paraded the streets looking for Jews. Jews were taken from their houses and other peoples attics where they hid. All I could hear throughout the night were gunshots. Between 200-300 Jews have been killed already. If they weren’t killed, they were taken away as prisoners. Mama told me that they were being taken to concentration camps where they would work themselves to death. It was definitely not tranquil! The sky is always filled with thick black smoke and there is a stench of dead rotting bodies. I...

Rihanna's Personality

...Robyn Rihanna Fenty (born February 20, 1988), known by her stage name Rihanna is a Barbadian recording artist, actress and fashion designer. She lived the life of a normal island girl going to Combermere, a top sixth form school. Rihanna won numerous beauty pageants and performed Mariah Carey "Hero" in a school talent show. Her life changed forever when one of her friends introduced her to Evan Rodgers, a producer from New York who was in Barbados for a vacation with his wife, who is a native. Rodgers arranged for her to go to New York to meet Jay-Z, CEO of Def Jam Records. He heard her sing and knew she was going to be incredibly successful. She was 16 when she was signed to Def Jam. Since then, she's amassed phenomenal success. After watching Rihanna’s 2013 Grammy performance of her hit song ‘Stay’ it led me to conclude that Rihanna has a Strong personality, an assumption which is based off the application of Evolutionary psychology and Existential psychology concepts. As she sang, the audience could feel her raw emotion, it didn’t feel rehearsed it felt real, which was only suitable since the song can be seen as a representation of the current dilemma she currently faces in her love life with ex lover Chris Brown. Existential Psychology is the study of human existence, however Rollo May focuses on concepts like freedom, responsibility, Authenticity, Death, courage, anxiety, destiny, dasein , daimonic , etc. All of which can be found in the traces of rihanna’s personality that...

A Raisin in the Sun

...Entry 1: Dear Diary, I am just now leaving The United States of America and on the plane right now as I’m writing this. Mama, Walter, Ruth, and Travis all dropped me off at the airport to say goodbye. It was really hard because I know I will not see them for a while, but they know what’s best for me. I know Mama wanted me to be with George, but he truly just wasn’t for me. He wanted me to be someone who I was not. He tried to push me away from who I am. I am Beneatha and proud of myself and family and since he couldn’t respect that I had to let him go. I hope Mama will understand why I did such a thing. She will never know how much I love her. As I am looking out of this window at the little specks of houses diapering I am thinking about what my future holds. I wonder if I have made the right decision, but I can only hope so. Joseph has changed my view of life. He has changed me for the better. I have always wanted to help others after I had watched the little boy in my neighborhood cut his head open. I know I am not the greatest follower of god, but I think this might be his plan for me. To look after the sick and diseased. I am delighted I have met Asagai. It’s almost like he is my other half because when I am with him I feel so alive and free. He makes me feel wanted and loved. He may not be the rich like George, but I love him just as much, if not more. Looking out into the clouds I see a happy future. Saving lives, curing patients, and caring for all who have been hurt...

Success

...The Real Definition of Success A mansion, a sports car, and financial freedom are all very alluring signs of success to some. To others, success includes materialistic things such as a yacht, a camper, and a cottage tucked away by the lake. According to a study conducted by World Health Organization, 15% of people in high-income nations report being depressed, while only 11% in lower-income countries report being depressed (Bromet). Looking at these statistics, one can assume that the correlation of wealth and depression are positively related. It is clear, as shown by the previously stated statistics, that money does not always lead to happiness. To others, success may also be defined as “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame” (“Success”). However, the true definition of success does not include any of these things listed above. Success does not include material goods but it is rather tied to expansive, more meaningful perceptions such as happiness, persistence, and overcoming hardships. One way to measure success is by how happy a person is. For some people, they might feel their happiest when they have lavish items. However, this is not true for everyone and is not a correct scale of success. Happiness for most people is a joyful and affectionate family. If this is what success means to someone, then one’s family is what outlines one’s success. Dr. Dennis Kimbro, author of multiple best sellers, interviewed many successful people about their definition...
