You can’t touch me

1) Summary
”You can’t touch me” is a short story written by Blake Morrison in 2010. The short story is about a teacher’s use of physical coercion towards a primary school student to demonstrate his authority and the following consequences of that choice. The short story’s main character is the primary school teacher Ian Goade. One day in the schoolyard he observes a school bully, Campbell, teasing another student. Ian Goade breaks into the conflict and blames Campbell and tries to reprimand him and commands him to go with him to the headmistress of the school Mrs Baynes’ office. Campbell refuses to follow and then Ian Goade grabs his ear and drags him to Mrs Baynes. The headmistress sees Ian Goade’s handling of the conflict as wrong and so does Campbell’s mother who makes an official complaint about Ian Goade. Ian Goade tries to reason with Campbell’s mother and the headmistress but fails, resulting in an upcoming hearing with the governors.

2) Characterize Ian Goade
Ian Goade is a primary school teacher, the narrator and the main character of the short story “You can’t touch me”. This characterization will focus on Ian Goade and why he used physical coercion instead of a more proper handling of the conflict.

The dialogue used in the short story shows that Ian Goade is a man who has experienced other men’s authority physically. He tells about his father’s rages and that he remembers the physical methods his own teachers used when he was a student like Campbell. But in spite of these experiences he believes that he is a good male role model for a bully like Campbell. This shows that he likes himself a lot. Indirectly he calls himself intelligent in the beginning of the short story, which also indicates his delight of himself. No matter how hard his wife and the headmistress tries to convince him that he was wrong and should stay calm,

...by the feel of cotton balls. Some often cannot bear to touch cotton balls. It is not only the texture that gives them this uneasy, unusual anxious feeling, it is also the sound that cotton balls make when they are rubbed together or pulled apart. As for me I can't stand to touch or think about cotton balls. I would cringe and have chills at just the thought of them. Just a few days ago in an elevator with Tammy, she was talking about cotton balls, and I had tears coming from my eyes. There comes times when I want to get my nails done, and when I finally get to go they would have to saturate the entire cotton ball, in order for it to be used on me. I learned that some people suffer so bad that they cannot open their own mail, medicine bottles or even use Q-tips, even refuse to wear certain types of cotton clothes. Some think this fear mostly develops during childhood or some traumatic experience had to have happened. But that's not always the case, as in my situation I didn't have a traumatic situation or horrible encounter, it's something that just happened to me & has stuck with me every since I can remember. Hypnotism is the known treatment for the fear of cotton balls. Gradual exposure or desentitization therapy is also proven to help treat some individuals. But as they say, what works on some might not work on you. Everyone is different & suffers differently. I've been asked how will be a nurse if you can't deal...

Music

...everyday life. We need some kind of escape and here is the music. It helps me to relax, to enjoy the life and make every moment better. I think that music has some biological connection with our body when we listening it. It has a great power. “Whithout music life would be a mistake.”- sad Friedrich Nietzsche. I tottaly agree. I can’t even imagine how the world would look like if there was no music. You can see many genres and artists in my playlist. Some of them gives me the strength, some gives me hope, some of them makes me to accept life as it is. Music is important part of life. It is a form of expression. It has no boundaries and it follows no guidelines. Essentially, to me, music is like air. It has no true shape or definiton, yet we need it to live. Imagine a world without music. All you’re left with is dust. Music is life istelf. As I mentioned, Music is one of the few things, that can help you escape your reality. No mater how bad things are, music has the potential to make you forget all about it. Music can spark any emotion. It can hold memories. It can tell stories. It will always be there. It will never vanish. You can’t touch music, but music can touch you. There are various type of music in the world. For instance, classic, pop, rock, jazz and others. Music is one of the part of our life. We listen to music everyday. Music is like true friend, in happy, merry and woe times it will be with you. Music influences straight to human mind and helps to relax and refresh...

Poetry Essay

...are written and spoken are from real life and feeling. This is what I attempt to convey to the reader as I write, to pull the reader into the experience as I write." In this poem the author uses a fire as a symbol for the passion and desire that rage within him. The first element in starting a fire is an ignition source. "Heat comes first from the ignition source" as explained in the Fire Triangle by the National Park Service. It would seem that there is a fire ready to be started at any moment given the right ingredients. In this poem one ignition source is the poet's lover's touch. The first two lines of the poem affirm that. It clearly states, "There is a fire within us...that only needs touch to bring forth flame". This simple touch is the spark that the poet needs to start a consuming fire within himself. In the next lines a whisper is another igniting factor. "Passion ignites...when I hear you whisper my name". He goes on to describe how his "body shivers...oh... but not from cold... but from the sweet anticipation...of a desire that never seems to grow old". Later in the poem he again references the anticipation as she kisses his...
