Zaroff In Ayn Rand's The Most Dangerous Game

I choose this image of a cat chasing a mouse because in the story, The saying, a cat playing with its prey, comes up many times. When Zaroff is hunting Rainsford, he finds Rainsford in the woods multiple times, but he heads back to the chateau. Rainsford soon realizes why Zaroff does this. He does this to keep the game going, he is the cat playing with it’s prey.

Zaroff’s red smile symbolized many things within the story. In the text, it says he smiles with his red lips and his pointed teeth are revealed. This gives the reader a vivid image of Zaroff and that his intentions are not well. The reader can infer that there is something more sinister behind this man.

When he was running frantically through the woods he tries to think how he could escape his death. He realizes that if he swam, it would not leave any tracks, and he would be able to lose the trail of Zaroff that was following close …show more content…
He soon realizes that he should make a more complicated and confusing trail for Zaroff to follow. Rainsford was pretty sure this would have worked but as dawn approached. Zaroff soon finds the trail and follows it all the way to Rainsford. When Rainsford goes to hide in the tree, Zaroff stops under it and looks up. It is dark by now in the woods. Then Zaroff smiles up at the tree and turns around to go back home. This leaves Rainsford with a sense of no hope. He now knows that his hunter can follow his complicated trials in the dark. He knows he needs to be smarter than his hunter now that he’s the prey.

This picture represents when Rainsford finally reached the shore of the island. After his long swim from falling off the boat, he finally reaches land. He then falls asleep. Later he wakes up and he looks around the island. Little does he know that what lays on the island is going to change him completely.
