Zenobia (Zeena) Frome is the wife of Ethan Frome, the protagonist of the story told from his perspective. Although, Zeena is technically the victim of this story because her husband is committing adultery with her cousin, Mattie Silver, but readers, like myself, sympathize more with Ethan because he is unhappy and feels like he is imprisoned in his marriage. Mrs. Frome is very quite, but her quietness is showing that she is studying the relationship of her husband, Mr. Frome, and he cousin, Mattie. She knows what is going on between her husband and her cousin, and she shows sarcastically that she knows towards her husband. Her appearance as described in the story make her come off as unfeminine like and old. The author describes her as being
