Today there are over 5 billion people use cellular phones and it is estimated that in the next four years there will be a 7 trillion wireless devices (LI-CHUN& RANGAPILLAI, 2010).The wildly spreading smart phones require a relatively high data rate, which eventually causes more power consumption. Recent studies are trying to develop a new technique for reducing the power consumption in cellular networks and making it more environment friendly, with taking the efficient power transmitting to the user on their consideration. The first mobile network consisted of only one base station; currently there are more than 4 million base stations worldwide to satisfy the huge demand on the mobile networks. On average each base station is using about 25MWh per year, which is about 60 percent of the total power consumption of mobile network (NAHAS et al., 2012). The focus of the proposed project is to increase the energy efficiency of the mobile networks without decreasing the quality of service of the mobile networks; it is combining and improving of suggested mechanisms to improve the existing mobile networks and hopefully to be implemented on future networks. Unit 31

...Assignment 3 GIF (Graphics interchange format) is a format in which an animation is saved. An animated GIF is a file format used to create basic animations. Some of the advantages of animated GIF’s are that if they are high quality and not pixilated then the animation will appear more appealing on a website; however the overuse of animated GIF’s on a website could leave the animation with lots of images, this could leave the users distracted or uninterested in the website. Also GIF’s compared to other formats have a small file size this enables them to be put on to website quickly and easily. Continuing from this point animated GIF’s have lossless compression this helps the file size to be reduced without a large amount of distortion so quality is not excessively lost. Another advantage of animated GIF’s is that they support transparent backgrounds, meaning that a transparent background can be used on a website instead of using a plain background, this will make the website look more unique. Some of the disadvantages of animated GIF’s are that they only support a maximum of 256 colour pallet so if you wanted to create an animation using specific colour shades then an animated GIF won’t allow this. Another disadvantage of animated GIF’s is that they only work in some web browsers that don’t support animated GIF’s such as they don’t normally operate on a file system explorer but they work on Google Chrome. Software tools available for animation; Layers Layers separate...

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest; Film Review

...just another boring movie. The main character’s story could have been told better and not just the main character but supporting characters as well. How did they get the way they did? Why are they exactly in the psychiatric hospital? These details could have been shown or portrayed a lot more clearly which would have made the audience much more sympathetic and emotionally involved in the movie. There was no background to their stories. I felt that the characters had more emotional problems than mentally ill. They were more emotionally disturbed than mentally ill. I believe a proper back story for the supporting characters would have made the audience much more into the movie. I felt that the camera work was really bad, unnecessary zooming in and zooming out. I believe the camera work could have been better. A lot of the movie revolves around the nurse. Is it the nurse who was wrong in her ways or was it the whole system? Microsoft Powerpoint & Prezi

...designed as presentation software, there are some differences between the two that will be highlighted in the subsequent paragraphs. PowerPoint, a slide-based program developed by Microsoft, is presentation software that consists of a number of individual pages or slides. Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software tool that allows the user to create a presentation using a large, blank page instead of traditional slides. The distinguishing feature of this software is its zooming user interface which enables users to zoom in and out of their presentation media. PowerPoint is offered as part of a software package that has to be uploaded on a computer. Prezi, on the other hand is a free web-based, assessable program that is offered online and as a download for computer desktops. PowerPoint is a linear-based application that uses multiple slides to present information, almost acting as a teleprompter when the user is presenting information. Prezi is a non-linear application that uses panning and zooming features that tend to give it more of a cinematic feel as opposed to the traditional slideshow format of PowerPoint. When using PowerPoint, text inclusion is limited to either bullet, numbered, or column format and offers no application to design pages in any other design. While PowerPoint is limited in this aspect, text inclusion is one of Prezi’s most elaborate features. In Prezi, not only can text can be developed in column, and bulleted formats, but text can be...

Usability of Ipads and Websites

...Usability of iPads and Websites Name Professor Course Date The tablet market is growing at a high rate, the iPad being the best selling in this segment. The iPad has many uses such as; streaming videos, playing games and surfing the internet. However its usability has come under critics from several parties. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the usability of the iPad from a consumer stand point. In 2011, the Nielsen Norman conducted a research on the usability of the iPad, and published a report. A total of 26 apps and 6 websites were tested. Many apps which the participants had installed on their iPads were also tested. Sixteen users participated in the research who were evenly distributed in terms of gender. Their average age ranged between 21 years and 50 years. The tests included; the usage of gestures, implementation of the back buttons, and the organization of the app or website. The findings of the tests were; usage of splash screens in websites and apps, squeezing of information into very small areas, making it hard to recognize, usage of excessive navigation methods and over usage of the swipe gesture in the apps. Despite the efforts being made by the developers to make iPad apps and websites more usable, there is still a large room for improvement as indicated by the test findings. The use of gestures is an inconsistent interaction design as described by Nielsen. The user interface differing from app to app is the most frequent inconsistency he...

Corruption In The Great Gatsby

...scope of social class in 1920s New York; in this way, he portrays multiple facets of the American Dream, including the impact of race and immigration. He begins his shift with “[o]ver the great bridge” to establish the idea of zooming out from what is happening in Gatsby’s car to what is happening on this “great” bridge, and what romantic endeavors will take place on the other side. The concept of light reappears with Nick noticing how “the sunlight through the girders mak[e] a constant flicker upon the moving cars.” The flickering sunlight symbolizes enlightenment and the wealth that is scattering onto all the cars now, not just Gatsby’s. Whereas in the preceding section the light is coming from Gatsby’s car, in this section it is coming from the sun itself, symbolizing that Manhattan as a whole, not just Gatsby, is gilded. Further, Fitzgerald describes the city as “rising up,” a symbol of growth and new opportunities that are being created. The exciting action that is rising is “across the river in white heaps and sugar lumps all built with a wish out of non-olfactory money.” The buildings of “white heaps and sugar lumps” represent the dream of a New York built scrupulously, with “non-olfactory money”— that is, money that does not smell of corruption. Zooming out from Gatsby’s car, Fitzgerald explains that “[t]he city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world.” The view from...

Psycho Paper

...scene begins with the shower still running, and water washing away all of the blood off of Marion. The camera starts on Marion’s leg before following a stream of blood and water mixing together. The scene also cuts away all music at this point, and only includes the background sound of the water flowing from the shower. The choice to avoid using non-diegetic music may have been a sign of how important the loss of life in this scene actually is to the movie. The camera continues panning left until it reaches the drain of the shower, and the blood and water swirl around the drain trying to stay out of the reach of the drain like humans do a “swirl” to avoid the loss of life. As the water is swirling the camera zooms toward the drain. The zooming of the camera towards the blood swirling down the drain shows a deeper meaning behind the loss of life that Marion is currently experiencing. As the water pours down the drain, and the camera zooms closer it leads to a lap dissolve. The lap dissolve leads into a shot of Marion’s eye staring into darkness of nowhere. The eye combining with a lap dissolve of the drain has strong meaning because of how Marion’s eye is watching her life slip away down the shower. The lap dissolve then transitions into a choker shot where only Marion’s face is showing. As the camera is pulling back Hitchcock adds in a spinning...

Advantages of "The Sixth Sense"

...According to the inventor, Pranav Mistry, “The Sixth Sense”, is a device that will give easy access to relevant information which already exists on the Internet. It is a new technological device that consists of a camera, portable battery powered projector, mirror, cell-phone, and coloured caps. The system not only recognizes natural gestures like zooming in and out of maps, but also iconic gestures such as taking a picture; just make a frame with your fingers of the area you wish to capture. Information could be displayed on any surface available, even your hands which make it totally convenient. For example, if you want to make a phone call, you could dial the number from the palm of your hands. The inventor also conducted a few other demonstrations to explain the device’s functions. The first was accessing information to assist him in purchasing products according to his preferences. Then, when he took out a newspaper, a video related to the article he was reading played on a blank surface. Furthermore, when he interacted with a student, words from the Internet, associated with him appeared on his t-shirt. He also displayed the current time by drawing a watch on his hand, and retrieved data about whether his flight’s been delayed or the gates have changed simply by scanning a boarding pass. In conclusion, this new technology will conveniently allow people to obtain pertinent data from the Web, to assist us in improving our lifestyles; we learn to make decisions economically...
