‘The Impact of Technology on my Life’

Technology is so much apart of our lives that we could not imagine a life without it. Technology has helped create the world that we live in. The world is a different place than it used to be, even 40 years ago.

The internet has been a huge advance. It has allowed people to become more educated than ever. Information is so accessible.
As a student of fashion I find the internet a necessity. Fashion is never ending and there is always new information to discover. The internet is the only way to be up to date on the fashion world because it is so fast paced and changeable. I wouldn’t know half the things I do about the fashion world if it weren’t for the thousands of websites dedicated to it. As someone who wants to be involved in the world of fashion I need to be up to date with trends etc. and the best places to look are certain informative sites like Style.com and londonfashioweek.com. I need to know all the new look for each season and I need to be able to identify the designer who created those looks. The only way of keeping so update is by doing a daily or weekly search online for all the new trends and fashion news. Of course I’m not the only one who is learning things on a daily bases from websites. Millions of adults and students are learning new information or skills everyday online. We, as a population, are growing ever more intelligent and I think the internet has a lot to do with that.

No one hands hand-written assignments or essays in to lectures anymore. In a few circumstance they would not be accepted if they were not typed. In this case, access to a computer is essential for students. For organization skills as well a computer can be so useful. Keeping all your work together in a file on the computer is so simple to do and so effective for personal organization.

...global occurrences that have had a significant impact on my life three were positive and three negative in the beginning and I still view them from those perspectives. However, the impact that they have had in my life have all caused very positive outcomes. Because of my convictions, beliefs and will to advance and better myself I have been able to use all experiences to somehow mold me in a positive manner. Both the invasion of Iraq and the Gulf War of the 90’s had initial negative impacts on my life. Both occurrences took family and friends into combat. Some of which I never saw again once they left for combat and some that were never the same upon return and whom I have watched suffer over time and ultimately end their lives through suicide. The development of the Internet, GPS and cell phone technology has all been very positive influences in my life. They have made communication, research and navigation easier, quicker and overall more in depth. However, I recognize some negative effects of the development of GPS and cell phone technology and the Internet. People no longer use the basic navigational skills and tools such as map reading, a protractor and compass. Many young people today have no idea how to read a map…what if all of a sudden the technology that drives GPS quits working or is intentionally jammed…many people would have no idea how to navigate with the most basic tools. The advancement of cell phone technology over the years has resulted in people......

...Teenage life online: The impact of texting on interpersonal relationships The topic I have chosen is Teenage life online: The impact of texting on interpersonal relationships. I feel this situation has been getting worse as technology is introduced to children more and more at a younger age. Some people feel the technology for children is the best idea, because it expands their mind. Whereas these is some people who feel it is a bad idea because it creates a lazy and mindless child. As stated by Natural Home Magazine “Although I consider the Internet an integral part of my life, especially my working life, I grew up before it was invented. I watched television, but a huge portion of my time was spent outdoors with kids in my neighborhood writing and performing plays we made up, creating board games, inventing scavenger hunts for one another, or alone, acting out scenes in my own mind. Without a child of my own, I don't really know: Isn't that what kids still do?” According to Good housekeeping “Moderate computer use may be associated with the development of some cognitive and social skills.” With this said there is much to be researched when it comes to children and the technology they are being introduced to. The overall organization of the paper is as follows: I. Intro: History of technology with children (Beginning of the internet to now) II. Body I: Pros to children having the amount of technology and how it effects personal relationships. III.......

Discovering the Internet @Issue Ch 1

...com/en/article/internet-changed-everyday-life/?fullscreen=true a. One way that our lives are enhanced is the ability to communicate faster. We are able to get news out and about to anywhere in the world faster than we ever have before, and we can know what is going on in each other’s lives like never before. Also with the Internet, we are able to learn about almost anything that we set our minds to. We can share ideas and thoughts with other people, and have them seen by millions. b. Daily life has been altered greatly in the past decade. 10 years ago, the first thing you might do when you come home is sit down and turn on the TV. Now? You probably go online and check your emails or social media. People even check their communication device in the car or in the waiting room. Our daily life has been so drastically changed over the past decade, especially with the growth of mobile technology. c. A negative impact on society is addiction and privacy. Many people become addicted to social media that they simply can’t stay off of it. People will even base their self-esteem and worthiness on how many “followers” or “friends” they have on their favorite website. The other concern is privacy. People will post things that can make them identifiable, and cause serious problems. This is especially noticeable with minors, who, despite previous warnings, will act recklessly online, putting themselves and their friends and family in danger of hostile people. ......

Technology

...Technology Technology is a huge part of everyday life for most people. It has made a huge impact on the world today. The question is, how much is too much? While both “No technology? No problem.” By Eric Brende and “Beware the Apps!” by Lacreta Scott are similar in the way they think too much technology is not good but differ in how much they should cut back on. The two articles are similar in the way they both think too much technology is not good. “I am merely wading in technology. They are drowning in it, dog-paddling to keep their heads above water.” (Brende 679) explains here that people are so consumed with technology they are drowning in it. He says “and with a degree of usage, I enjoy a balanced like, blending family with work, and leave ample leisure to write books and articles, play music, and visit relatives.”(Brende679) as he limits his use of technology to a minimum. Lacreta goes on to agree with this “Already I am too late. The apps are with is. Texting, Tweeting, E-mailing, Etc-ing. They are fixtures in our lives.”(Scott683). She starts by telling how it ruins relationships. “I have seen, and you have seen, two people at lunch, talking, but not to each other. Each is talking into a cell phone to absent third parties” (Scott684). She feel that people even miss the little things around them because they are so caught up in technology. “Another common sight is someone walking along, ignoring the sounds of nature or of the city, with a hands-free device in......

How Technology Affected My Life Style

...Class: English 110-13 Date: 16th September 2014 The many ways technology has impacted my life! Fifty years ago, we would not have been able to do what we can do today. Technology has brought the human race to an era of technological dependencies; where one cannot perform a simple math problem without the help of the internet. Nevertheless, technology keeps growing and I have realized that it has helped us in many ways. From building a house, to doing a simple math calculation on a calculator, tasks that were once difficult can now be performed in a matter of minutes, even seconds. Technology has had an impact in my life as it has allowed me to access information faster, has made house hold chores easier and has made school life simple. As the days go by, valuable information is released out to the public and thanks to technology; we can access that information faster. Gadgets such as laptops, tablets and smart phones, have allowed us to just type in a few words, click one or two buttons and bam! I am now up to date on today’s news. This is more efficient as I don’t have to wait for a certain time to watch the news on the television or hear it on the radio. Information that can be found in the library can also be found on the internet, which makes researching less of a hassle. Now, I don’t have to go to the library and try to find a book that has little or no information on the topic I am researching. Technology has now made researching faster and more efficient by......

Sociology and Technology

...determine some of the primary issues concerning the influence of the media and technology in post-modern American society. We know that the media is a prevalent and powerful force in contemporary society and that technology has infiltrated the everyday lives of most Americans. In this analysis I will examine the impacts of media and technological saturation through an exploration of my own media usage habits. After a 72-hour period in which I will not use my media/technological electronics, I will define what I see as the prevalent issues surrounding present-day American reliance on media and technology as a source of information, as well as a method of understanding the world. Included is a discussion of the conflict theory and its perception of the ways in which the bourgeoisie and elite politicians control and oppress the proletariat through utilization of media and technology as well as a brief overview of the class-dominance theory of the social media. I will explore some of the methods by which this is done, as well as investigate some of the impacts that the media/technology have on the public, especially Narcotizing Dysfunction. I will explain in detail precisely how the media shape and influence people and society, and I will address the controversial use of electronic devices as communication tools, particularly their overuse. I shall discuss the possibility that these kinds of technologies are addictive through the employment of an experimental case......

...in the 21st century seem to be reliant on technology, however, does technology help or hinder me? As a biased approach I would strongly suggest that technology improves my quality of life to the extent that if it were removed from our society, i believe my quality of life would suffer dramatically. I am attached to technology every day of my life and so I have chosen 3 parts of technology that has improved my life dramatically. The first and most important thing in technology that i believe has helped and improved the quality of my life would be medication. Not that i have a deadly disease that would kill me had i not take medication at certain times of the day but never the less medication has had a dramatic impact on me. When i was born the doctors noticed a slight problem with my immune system it wasn't a massive problem however it needed attention. I was given some medication and i was monitored for a couple of months until i was fine. On birth my immune system was weak and couldn't fight viruses or infections. It was the slightest of problems but imagine they had not had the equipment or technology to fix or even notice what was wrong with me, would i still be here today? I mean look at Ebola for example, it started in West Africa some what 20 years ago and has recently returner infecting over 15000 people mostly in Africa a continent that I would say are decades behind the rest in terms of health care and modern technology. Had this disease started in the U.K or......

Reflections of a Technophile

...Reflections of a Technophile: The Hidden Pit-falls of My Digital Life I usually view modern technology as a great boon to myself and society, however throughout this essay I will expose and document how my use of technology is often disruptive and hinders my daily life. My first example concerns the effect that Social Media has on my life, in particular its impact upon my social relationships. To clarify, when I discuss Social Media in this essay, I'm referring to an application utilising the internet as the platform of communication and therefore in my view it is a technology. My second and third cases relate to physical technologies, in these instances computer peripherals. I will focus on the often troublesome health effects I experience from their use, which range from headaches, to eye-fatigue and Repetitive Strain Injury. My first example of a personally disruptive technology is Social Media, in this case Facebook. I find Facebook to be very impersonal, by which I mean that once signed up, I had to create what is essentially a digital version of myself, to interact with other digital versions of various friends. This, in my view, leads to a feeling of disassociation from others and presents a barrier to the development of my social relationships. I believe other negative impacts of Social Media on my life arise from the reduced physical/real socialisation it generates. I find it disrupts my relationships by providing an easier outlet to socialise,...

(about.com 2011). What steps are taken? Typically, the scientific method involves the following steps: First, ask a question or other questions in relation to the subject or topic. The questions need to be specific in order to provide direct focus to the inquiry.   Secondly, research the topic. The research needs to be detailed in order to learn as much as possible to help with your question. Third, formulate a hypothesis. A hypothesis is a statement regarding the cause and effect of the situation surrounding your question. Fourth, Test the hypothesis. Testing involves the planning and carrying out of a procedure or set of procedures to gather data (about.com 2011). Whether we know it or not the scientific method is being used in everything we do. I ask myself why is the light out?   Or ask myself did...

Role of Technology in College and Careers

...Today, we live in a world where technology is forever increasing and impacts our everyday lives. IPads, IPods, laptops, computers, YouTube, Facebook, are all things we all are familiar with and probably use every day. Not one day goes by without me surfing the internet. People exercise the use of our technology to make their lives easier. Technology can be defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (Dictionary.com). The computer, for example, is a common resource I use every day, even for the simplest tasks. Research, navigation, weather, sports, whatever it may be, have never been so easy. I find out now that I am in college, just how essential technology is. I believe the role of technology in college and careers is to create higher education, help make things more accessible, thus making our jobs or learning experiences easier and enjoyable for people but, just as technology may be beneficial to people, there can also be some hindrances. Technology is beneficial to me in college in so many ways. To begin with, technology helps me learn and get my school work done efficiently. By using laptops, smartphones, IPods, and things such as those, I believe my learning is better because I am more of a visual learner and growing up in this day and age, it is something that I am...
