Our old car puffed with agony before he finally unearthed a parking spot neighboring the pier. Bolting out of our roadster I hammered the door shut and charged toward the pier. The soft light brown to tanish oven baked sand engulfed my feet as it muscled its way between each toe and quickly heated them. In my struggle to reach the pier I managed to stop beneath it to cool my crisp feet. I strolled along the ocean’s edge as the chilled water revived my warm feet as I felt the sand jittering in the shallow water. Rough concrete pillars each blanketed at base with slimy green and black mold were cool to the touch. ...Jackson Moore November 1, 15 MKTG 3433 TLAM 9 This week’s resource is a video of Steve Easterbrook, the CEO of McDonalds, speaking on McDonalds’ needs to reconsider its business strategy and turn the company around. This video directly relates to chapter 15 of our textbook in many ways. The most obvious relationships are on target markets and customer service. One of these examples can be seen near the start of the video when Steve says that McDonalds needs to refocus and get closer to its target markets. This directly relates to the section title “Selecting Target Market” on page 493 of our textbook where it claims that, “A retailer starts to define its strategy by selecting a target market”. This is one of the most important things to consider when it comes to a company. If the company does not have a good grasp on its target market then it has no way of knowing how to tend to the demand of that market. Another connection between our reading and the video is that they both have a section devoted to customer service. Steve says that they are going to put more time and effort into focusing on the customer. He says that the company will develop a “sharper focus on the customer… a sharper focus on what they want”. Although many efforts have been made to reverse the damage done, Native Canadians still face many drawbacks and issues to this day as a result of colonization. Eden Robinson's Monkey Beach is the story of Lisamarie Hill and her search for her brother, Jimmy, who is missing at sea in northern British Columbia. During Lisa's search for Jimmy, she reflects upon her childhood and the different hardships she faced growing up. Monkey Beach depicts the real life struggles of indigenous people in a modern, euro-centric society through taking a close look at the story of Lisa and her family. Lisa and other Aboriginal characters in the novel act as an example of the issues faced by Aboriginals by showing society's treatment of Aboriginals, Lisa's difficulty in connecting with her spirituality, and the many instances of sexual abuse towards Aboriginals. ...D-Day Throughout World War II there were many big turning points in the war, in my opinion I think that D-Day was the biggest turning point of them all. Two of the major points of D-Day were the invasion of Omaha beach, and the invasion of Utah beach. Omaha beach is definitely the most well-known battle of D-day. Being able to land the 1st and 29th Infantry divisions and Army Rangers on Omaha Beach was way tougher than we expected. When we finally were able to get troops on the beach they soon discovered that although they had put down naval gun fire and pre landing air bombardments it had not helped much. Because of the fact that the Germans had many enemy positions including positions looking down from bluffs as high as 90 to 120 feet, to lower positions they were able to stop our attack at the shore. Things eventually got so bad that we almost pulled all troops off the beach and moving them elsewhere along the coast.
