...September 9, 2014 Life Lessons Life is full of obstacles that you have to figure out how to maneuver around. It is full of challenges that you have to overcome. When you lose a loved one, you feel like it’s the end for you as well. Hopefully you can overcome the sadness and learn how to deal with not only the pain but also putting your life in order as well. I grew up with an older sister and a younger brother. Our parents were constantly gone. Busy working or out with friends. That left my siblings and I alone a lot. We taught ourselves to take care of each other. Mentally, physically and emotionally we were all each other had. That made the relationship we had with each other stronger than it could ever be. A promise was made between the three of us that we would always be there for one another. We would always help each other no matter what the circumstances were, and we would always protect each other. On January 7, 2009 my world changed forever. My brother was in a severe single vehicle accident that killed him. Alcohol and speed were both factors in the accident. Neither my brother nor his passenger was wearing their seat belts. Both were ejected from the vehicle. My brother lived long enough for me and my sister to get to the hospital and say our final goodbyes. ...One life lesson I have learned was one learned at a very young age (Elementary school age to be exact) and that lesson is….just because a girl smiles and says hello to you. Does not mean that she likes you, learning this lesson has helped avoid getting my feelings hurt countless times. This takes me back all the way to when I was a fourth grader at Oak Hill Elementary School. I was 8 years old and her name was Kim; she was the same age. She was a pretty Asian girl from the fifth grade. Sitting at lunch or passing each other in the hallway. She would always smile, wave at me and say hello to me. She was taller than me and she had long, flowing jet black hair, beautiful dark almond shaped eyes and a beautiful voice. ...Appreciation and Gratitude – Life Lesson Finally, after so many years I am on my way home, “second” home after my parents’. I feel very excited, as it is not just a house that I used to rent, but a “magic” place, where being away from my parents I could experience home comfort. ...Sometimes we all make mistakes. The most popular excuse that comes to mind is “that no one is perfect”. The most important thing is to take the time to think and make the right decisions. This is how we should handle each situation no matter how minor and learn from our mistakes. My lesson begins on a Friday night after a long week of work. I’m looking forward to celebrating my buddy’s birthday tonight. As I was getting ready to go out after work I started making the plan to pick up our friend Pete. For some reason choosing to take out my 98 Camaro Z28 instead of my more conservative Jetta seemed like a good idea. Why did I choose the Camaro? Why that was a bad idea? ...Watching the video ‘Unguarded’ really taught me a lot. For example how once you try drugs once that is all it takes to ruin your life.
