Dear (insert teachers name),
I was born in Fort Bragg North Carolina on June 23, 1996. I am currently sixteen years of age with one seven year old brother that I love to spend time with and watch movies with during my free time. My favorite hobbies include reading, writing, watching television, and swimming. My favorite television shows are Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth. I am interested in horror and drama movies. I am also interested in nonfiction books. I believe that I have a better connection with nonfiction books than fiction. I like to read, write, and cook but I do not like to do homework or chores. I am a military child. My parents got a divorce when I was four years of age. I now live with my dad and stepmom, who is adopting me by the end of January, and my seven year old, little brother. I love to hang out with my family because I believe that if I don’t hang out with them now our relationship will not be as strong in the future. My mom and dad are in the military. My mom is currently deployed and in Afghanistan. My dad has been deployed three times to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait. My little brother is in the first grade and has gorgeous blond hair and blue eyes.
My favorite thing about myself is my smile, and eyes. I dislike my height, my acne problem, and having to wear braces. I love my smile because it shows my personality and to me my smile is what can change a day that is going wrong into a day that can be perfect. I like my eyes because they have a certain shine to them that no one else has and they show who I am. I also like my personality I might have my moments like everyone else but I know who I am and my personality helps me keep in touch with myself. I would most like to change my height because I hate being teased about my height and being shorter than most of my friends. I would also change my acne problem because to me with acne I don’t feel beautiful even if my friends tell me I am. I would change me having braces because they are painful but they are helping my teeth look better so I can deal with my braces.
“Family tradition, handed down by word of mouth, traces the Craft family to two Dutch brothers, stowaways who came to America from Germany. The surname, Kraft (Craft), survives today in West Germany, having been observed by one of the Archelous Craft’s descendants on tombstones in a grave yard in Babenhausen, South of Frankfurt.” (A Family Called Craft)(Chapter 1, Page 1) German Americans are citizens of the United States of German ancestry. They comprise about 50 million people, making them the largest ancestry group ahead of Irish Americans, African Americans and English Americans.
The reason I think I’m the best is because first off I am a good listener.
Second off it always mattered to me what my teachers thought of me, so I did my best work for them. Third I try to make people feel comfortable in tense situations. Finally I want people to succeed and feel good about themselves. My worst traits sometimes I'm such a good listener that I don't express myself verbally to others when I need to. I also sometimes neglect my own family in order to help others. Second sometimes social situations are so distressing for me that I avoid them at all costs. I also avoid conflict at all costs. Because of this, it is sometimes hard for me to work out problems between myself and my friends. Third I am too hard on myself. Fourth and final I often don't feel good about myself. I think I'm not good enough or trying hard enough. I think people are or will be disappointed in me.
I see myself being a good person because I want everyone around me to be happy so I do whatever it takes to make them happy. I might have ups and downs in between it but in the end I always make the person happy even if I’m not happy myself. My friends always tell me how much they are lucky to have me as a friend which makes me think about myself as a great friend. As a child I am not the best my brother and I get into arguments all the time and if I don’t get what I want I get mad and don’t do what I am asked to do. I see myself as an excellent student because I may not get good grades on tests but I try my hardest and I push myself to the max to achieve what I need to get done.
My strengths in English class are that I love to read and write and I can fall in to class work really easily. My weaknesses are that it takes me forever to start writing a paper. I might be able to fall into work but I can’t start by making a rough draft I have to free write. Second off I am awful at tests I fail all of them wither or not I study. Third and final if I am not interested in the book I can’t focus, this makes it extremely hard when we read long books.
Sincerely yours,
(Your Name)

Final Summary: Why I Hate This Class

...Final Summary At the beginning of the year, I expected to hate this class. I have never enjoyed writing whatsoever. But now that I’m looking back, I surprisingly liked this class. My writing skills greatly improved over the year. For example, on our first paper, the Educational History Narrative, Paper Rater gave me a 73. With every paper I wrote I improved point by point. On the last paper we wrote, the Argumentative Research paper, Paper rater gave me a 92. With my scores improving, the difficulty to write my papers decreased. The most challenging paper was the Ad Analysis paper. For my analysis, I chose PAM cooking spray. Looking back on it, this probably wasn’t a great idea. The ad campaign I chose only had two short one minute commercials....

...research paper on an individual that had a great impact on Black History.” As soon as I heard the announcement, my heart beat increased and my palms began to sweat. Literally, I dropped my face on my desk and whispered, “God help us all; I’m about to fail this class.” I had a gut feeling that the assignment was going to be difficult and time consuming. Immediately I imagined the many hours that I would have to assert on the assignment, and the thought depressed me. Little did I know that doing the assignment would bring me one of the greatest surprises of my academic life and taught me that the writing process can’t be rushed. Mrs. Fisher paced back and forth in front of the class room as she explained how someone inspired her to become a teacher. At some point I stopped listing and was on the verge of dozing off. Suddenlty my attention snapped back to her as her words “I get to assign you the person to do this essay on” pushed themselves into my consciousness. Up this point I had thought that we can pick our own person and had settle on Martin Luther King, Jr. Mrs. Fisher proceed to assing different historical figures to different students while the fear of not getting MLK creeped over me. Finally, Mrs. Fisher said,”Santiago Torres, MLK.” For the first time in that class, I felt hopeful. 3 days later we had the rough draft due about our person. Well I didn’t do as you can imagine. Walked into class with this guilt feeling that we all get after we don’t do a paper on time. She...

Importance of Revision

...Revising can help you fix any errors and give you the chance to have someone else look at the paper and give you their views. You can even search for more information just in case you feel your paper needs facts. Regardless if you think your essay is ready for submitting revising it can be beneficial to anyone. The benefit to revising your paper can help you make sure that you’ve hit all the key fundamental points you initially had a rough draft of. By reading through your essay you can go back a highlight and make any grammar errors you may have missed. You can try and look for things that may or may not make sense and place notes on your paper that will help you remember where the errors are. All of this can help you get the grade you deserve especially if the effort to write this essay was very time consuming. Making sure all errors and key points are in check so that whoever reads this paper understands the points that you were trying to get across. Now asking for someone to read your essay can be a huge benefit. Someone else’s point of views and understanding of the paper can help you make sure that your point is understood clearly. Even more so the other person reading your essay can throw out other ideas for you to point out in case you were clear or need more information. Gaining other ideas for your essay can be so helpful if you had a hard time coming up with ideas to write about. Not only that, but...

Business Dilemma

...write about subjects that interest or relate to them. Everyone has their own way of writing, but their way was influenced by another source whether they know it or not. Individuality in writing is influenced through transferability. Technical writing is something that is learned. In school everyone was taught how to format an essay or different types of writing like poems or stories. Anything that I did in class I was always given a template of how the instructor wanted the paper to be written. This would have word count, the format, and what the paper should be about. All throughout school we learned the fundamentals of writing starting with letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, to structures of writing like essays and poems. The thing that is learned from writing is technical. As my English education grows the technical side is less focused on while the content is the most important thing. Content is the writing that I am doing now. The content portion of writing is not learned but influenced by others. My writing becomes influenced through examples like essays. In this English class, I believe that that’s how these three previous essays worked out. The Scholarly Discourse Unit paper was a paper that had us synthesize how we thought the writers Gee, Swales, and Porter connected to each other. I used transferability to apply the knowledge that I got from each of the three sources and created an argument that I could synthesize with each other. This paper gave me the opportunity...

Your "Writer" Life

...Writing is difficult to me. I have trouble writing about anything. The main reason is because I do not concentrate enough. No matter how much I try to concentrate, my mind seems to get distracted. Once upon a time, while I'm writing this small paragraph, my mind keeps on thinking about others topics. I don’t know if this happens to others, but this is a problem that I have trouble in. This could be why do not like to write. The best time and place for me to write anything would be during late at night when everything is quiet around me. I'm usually in my bedroom sitting right where my computer is when I am writing. I hate writing anything with a pen and a paper. If the essay, report, or anything else, doesn’t have to be on paper, I type it on my computer. I type faster than writing by hand. I cannot have any distractions around me. Sometimes the internet on my computer has to be disabled or else I would be tempted to browse online or facebooking . It all comes down to whatever I feel most comfortable with and also wherever my imagination can take me. I will most likely write about some topic that I have good enough information on. When I am writing about things that had happened in my life, I could recall all the little details and events that took place. I tend to exaggerate quite a bit, but not because I want to make it a fiction. Last time I wrote about an event, I wrote about my first date with my boyfriend. I could picture and recall every second of that night just...

Writing Is Hard

...For me, writing is frustrating. Many times I have trouble writing about anything. The main reason why I have so much trouble when writing, is because I don't concentrate on my work enough. Even when I try my hardest to concentrate, my mind seems to wonder around to a different direction towards another thought. After that, I forget all about my work and just think about various things such as people, places, and different times I've had in the past. For example, even while I'm writing this small paragraph, my mind keeps on slipping into other thoughts. I dont know if this happens to lots of people, but this is one problem that I have trouble the most in. Maybe this is why I'm a slow writer and don't like to write. When I write, I'm usually in my house sitting right where my computer is. One thing about me is that I hate writing anything with a pen and a paper. Most of the time when writing an essay, report, or anything else, I type it on my computer. I can probably type 50 times faster than writing by hand. I guess it's just something that I'm better at. I can type about 80-85 words per minute. If that isn't fast, then I dont know what is. When writing, I can write when it's quiet, loud, during the day, during the night, and during whatever atmosphere I'm in. Even if the whole house is quiet, I usually listen to music while typing an essay. However, the best time and the best atmosphere for me to write anything would be during...

The One

...downs. I've been able to write papers but I've always needed a little bit of help to complete them. My mom has always been there when I am having problems writing papers. There have been times where I am amazing at them and knock them out like nothing. These are papers are usually short stories or something I can relate to. Then theres times where nothing comes to me and it seems like it takes forever to write them. When writing the papers one of the difficulties came from what I was writing about. In high school papers stressed me out because I knew I was going to have trouble with them. When I had to write my paper for chemistry, I worried about the length, how many citation, and how to cite it. I ask myself how does confidence impact my ability to write? On the one hand the papers I have the most confidence writing and I favor the most are ones where we have to tell a made up story or about a life event. I can write these very easily because I can remember the event very vividly or can make up a story with lots of detail. With event stories I usually just remember then write and occasionally go back to reread and fill some parts with more detail. In high school one of the first papers I had to write in my English class about a life event that changed your life. I thought to myself this is really easy to write about. I had an idea and there was no length on the paper so I didn't have to worry about how long it was. I was ready for this paper. I had confidence and I knew inside...

...skills. I have found that as a writer, few of the strengths that I have are providing good supporting ideas of a paper and formatting of a paper. I have a keen knowledge of what each topic of a paper is about and how to support the points that I have chosen to write about. I am also knowledgeable on how the papers should be formatted from GCU style to APA style. However, some of my challenges are that I type how I talk which causes me to have more than a few grammatical errors. I also have a tendency to write papers that are unorganized and that causes a reader to lose track of what my papers are about.  Based on the feedback I have received the areas that I will need the most improvement in are grammatical errors, mechanical errors and organization of my papers. So far, I have taken a few steps to help improve my writing skills. One step that I have taken is I use different colleagues to proofread my work before submitting it. Another step I have taken to improve my writing skills is I practice using the Student Success Center. The Student Success Center provides me with many tools that has helped me improve my writing a little more each time. In my past academics I have written a number of papers and essays. I have written many narrative, persuasive, description and exposition papers. My favorite type of writing is description because it is like poetry to me. I love writing poetry to clear my mind or to express myself. The writing I have done in the past differs because...

Reflective Essay About My Writing Analysis

...This semester of English 111 has taught me many things about my writing. I have learned that one of my best strategies with writing is getting a head start. I have learned that I will produce a better paper if I work on it periodically rather than all at once before the due date. Writing a paper periodically allows my brain to take a rest between each night. While my brain does get a rest, writing periodically also allows me to think of new thoughts and ideas that I want to incorporate into my paper. Along with this idea, a strategy that doesn’t work as well for me is trying to do too much at once. For the Paradise Lost Analysis and British Literature Analysis, I tried to do everything in one night so I wouldn’t have to worry about it any more. This technique put even more stress on me and made me overwhelmed. Although my literary analyses seemed strong in my...
