Chapter One Akari ran through the crowded streets of Tamashi, attempting to ignore her burning lungs. She only had a few more minutes before the train left its station and she was determined to make it there on time. She stumbled, almost falling, brushing shoulders with a man who had long blond hair that hung loosely around his neck. For a moment, she saw it flash silver, a hint that he wasn’t completely human. Akari was never sure why, but for some reason, she could always identify the non-human entities that many thought were normal humans. What is he? I can’t get a good reading on him. She shook her head, running to the train station. When she got there, she quickly ran by the other trains, looking for one that was dark blue, rimmed with red, and exhaling purple smoke. She turned at the sound of a whistle, seeing the train beginning to take off. She ran to it, deer leaping into the hallway of compartments just as the door closed.…show more content… Walking down the hallway, she noticed almost all of them were full and the ones that weren’t had many sleeping students in them. Well, most of them. She found one that had a boy about her age who had hair that reminded her of honey mixed with caramel. Knocking on the glass of the compartment door, she waited for him to notice her. He steadily turned his head, revealing his eyes to be like green sapphires. He motioned her inside the compartment and turned back to the window, staring at the fading train station. “Um,” she said after a minute of silence, “thanks for letting me sit with
