House v. Bell was an atypical case because it was a death case that was tried and then successfully appealed to the US Supreme Court. The facts of the case involve the victim, Carolyn Muncey disappeared from her home in Union County, TN. She was later found dead by an embankment. The defendant in the case, Paul House, was seen in the area where the body was found. At the time, semen and blood was found consistent with the defendant. The defendant was arrested and had an initial court appearance in county court. The trial was held in 1985 and was tried in Circuit court.
