...Unit 19 Assignment 1 TEAM TYPES – drag and drop worksheet Describe different types of teams and the benefits of teams for an organisation (P1). Part (a) - Drag the appropriate 6 terms above that describe the team types we have discussed into the boxes below: Part (b) - Drag the definition and benefit descriptions below to the appropriate team type listed in your table. Part (c) - Provide an example of how each team type benefitted (or could benefit) your team during the balloon chair activity. Use the space provided in the table for your answers. TEAM TYPE | DEFINITION/BENEFITS | EXAMPLE | 1. | Temporary teams are hired for specific time or tasks, which would allow the business to alternate teams depending on the business needs. Due to this, the team will be focused on the task they have been set up to do. At the end of the project, the company wouldn’t need to fire the team members as they know their contract is ended at the end of the project. If the business is recruiting, creating temporary teams to do induction tasks would allow the business to analyse employees before hiring them. | Being part of temporary team to do the balloon chair would be a good as the task would get boring as the team would have to constantly perform the task on a daily basis. This could make the team more motivated to perform the task to the best of their abilities as they know they have been selected to do the task. | 2. | By building up a permanent team, the business would save themselves...

...MNGT 3310 Team Assessment Developing Team 6 It takes time and a great deal of effort to build an effective team. Most people would agree that participating in group activities, whether it be a class project, sports team, or a corporation, is not as simple as it may seem. From my experience with being a part of a group, being in an effective team is what is needed to be successful in organization. However, there can be problems that may avert a team from being effective. Ineffective group members lack the vital knowledge of their teammate’s behaviors which lead to the absence of trust due to differences in personality, learning habits, and etc. In 1965, a psychologist by the name of Bruce Tuckman proposed a theory of the phases of an effective group. This theory is presented in a five stage model that summarizes the processes of being a part of a team. These stages are: Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning. In order for a group or team to be effective and reach goals, these five steps are necessary. The first stage is forming which is the initial meeting of the team. Team member behaviors will often be mannerly and polite with one of the contributing factors being the inability to understand one another. There are several issues in this stage that makes it the most difficult stage, one being the team not having a clear goal. Though this stage is difficult, it is crucial for team members to know one another to understand another’s behaviors and how to meet...

...Teams in the 21st Cent SOC/110 November 4, 2013 Teams in the 21st Century From the time that you are a young child you begin to experience working in teams. Teams have become an important part of the 21st Century whether it be in education, athletics, or even at the workplace. In this paper I’ll discuss my experience working in teams, the advantages of being part of a team, and how having stronger team skills could really benefit you. I worked on my first team at the age of eight when I was on my first softball team. I never really knew what being part of a team meant until I played with those girls and that is an experience I have never forgotten even today. As I got older and in high school being part of a team became more common with the DECA club, Student Council, and the Dance Team. Each of these teams are all different in their own way but they each individually taught me skills that I still use to this day. Now that I am older I have realized that not everyone has the same idea or definition of what a team exactly is. As a student at the University of Phoenix working in teams is a big part of my school assignments each week. I have had some really positive experiences but there have been other times when my experiences were not so good. The one consistent problem I seem to have is getting everyone to do their part of the assignment on time or even at all which can be very frustrating at times. When I was younger it was fun to be part of a...

...RAYA KORUDOVA TEAM WORKING Team-working is a contemporary form of achieving goals used in all kinds of contexts. “Work teams are groups of people embedded in organizations, performing tasks that contribute to achieving the organization’s goals. They have the necessary authority, autonomy and resources to achieve these objectives.” (West, 2012) However, the term “team” is easily mistaken with the term “group”. A group differentiates from a team by its larger size, necessity of a leader, style and spirit. (Mullins, 2008) There are various reasons why people choose to work in teams. First of all, the hierarchical structure that slows the process of working can be avoided as the individual is no longer the decision maker but the team is taking that role and speeds the process. (West, 2012) Secondly, the team allows the participants to learn from each other. (West, 2012) Some members might have different age, experience or backgrounds and thus incorporating unusual, fresh ideas and knowledge. Another advantage of working in teams is the opportunity to improve the employees’ motivation and commitment. (Mullins, 2008) Being a part of something, having the feeling that you belong somewhere brings a sense of responsibility and commitment in one’s mind. The more committed the employee feels, the more motivated and hardworking he becomes. On the other hand working in teams can have sometimes negative aspects. Firstly, not all the members might be equally active. (Joseph, 2012)There...

...define a team as a group of people brought together to use their complementary skills to achieve a common purpose for which they are collectively accountable. (Schermerhorn, 2010) Stages of group development Bruce Tuckman (1965) developed a 4-stage model of group development. They are 1. Forming: The group comes together and gets to initially know one other and form as a group. 2. Storming: A chaotic vying for leadership and trialing of group processes 3. Norming: Eventually agreement is reached on how the group operates 4. Performing: The group practices its craft and becomes effective in meeting its objectives. 5. Adjourning: The process of "unforming" the group, that is, letting go of the group structure and moving on. Part I: Group Development The Forgotten Member is a case study of a group of students who were assigned a project by their professor. In the case of Christine and her group which is composed of her classmates in accounting, their goal is to generate a well-written analysis in reviewing a 7-page case. This five member group is a dynamic bunch because of the mix of different personalities. Since there is diversity within the group, it cannot be prevented that a variety of perceptions and work attitudes affect the group processes and development. It also mentions different personality traits that a team coordinator has to encounter in a team to maintain a balance. It also outlines the qualities that a team coordinator has to possess to lead the team in the...

...Our team performed a team building exercise. We were part of a simulation to climb Mount Everest. We were given 6 days to make it up 5 stages. Our team consisted of 6 members, the leader, doctor, environmentalist, marathon runner, photographer, and an observer. The roles were determined randomly by the simulator, so there were no factors used to determine which member received which role. As the physician for the team it took a few days for everyone to collaborate and get their schedules all to work out to complete this task. Once we were able to get together we all were able to feel out what was going on. As the physician I wanted to make sure everyone was healthy and ready to go out and accomplish this goal. I do not think there were any weaknesses within this team. Everyone was able to help everyone out and those within the group showed leadership when they reached out to the other members to make sure we all could meet up at the same time. As the observer for the team, I identified several good teamwork qualities once the team actually was formed. There was some confusion as to who was on what team but after a few days; one after the other was present for the forming processes. The first day (before starting) only two members were present for the forming processes then shortly after that two more. Once the three of us were together, we noticed that there was confusion to who was on what team. At this time a plan was concocted to contact the team members signed...

...is in my own home, work or playing volleyball with my volleyball league. I have always been a team player and very outgoing ever since I was a child. I get this from my older siblings who always strived for the top and always wanted things to be better as we got older. Assessment I learned from this assessment what my main targets are as a person and what part I play in a team. It is important to know where you stand so you can build and learn about yourself to make yourself more successful. To be successful you have to always look at other peoples’ point of view about you. This helps everyone learn what changes need to be made to be more successful in life. This could be for school or even just at home with your family members. Knowing where I stand on paper makes me want to stay a motivator. I have always been a big motivator and I will plan on staying a big motivator. Without me a lot of my team members would probably stay in their shells and not want to participate in the different assignments, games or plans that we have to put together. Someone has to make people talk and make people express themselves. How else would we know as a society how people feel about a specific topic if nobody is pushing people to speak up or act upon what they feel needs to be done. This is very vital in a team relationship because it makes everyone feel like they are part of a team and don’t feel left out. Motivators make people feel more comfortable and this makes people...

...successful one must adhere to the simplistic principle of teamwork. Through teamwork, the individual needs are second to that of the collective group working towards a common objective. We as humans not only rely on teamwork for our survival but yearn for it. I am no exception to the law. In fact, I have always been a part of a team. Whether it be my first and longest running team of my family or my college football team, they all follow simple laws. The first being that the team must maintain an unwavering focus on its collective goals. In addition, no one person's wants or desires are ever put before that of the team's. Furthermore, every one on the team has a clearly defined role and the success of the team relies on effective communication between its members. Finally, the team must be self-correcting. In other words, it must be able to point out weaknesses, address and correct them, and then move forward. As stated previously, I have been a part of many teams both good and bad. I have a good grasp on what works and doesn't when it comes to...

...challenges that a team may face while being in a learning team is one may not do their part. Sometimes, we will be faced with problems that will stop a team player from doing their part or we will be faced with a slacker on our team. When a team player is faced with a problem (in his or her life) we will try our best to help them, as much as we can. We will see how much of the assignment they have done and go from there. I don’t believe in penalizing someone who is trying and life hits them for one assignment but it’s different when it involves several assignments. We will help each other out when someone is struggling because we could be that one that is struggling for that assignment. It’s a different story when dealing with a slacker/ someone who is not participating at all on the assignments. We will try to get in contact with this person in different ways. We will call, email, and even try to text them but if we get no respond, we will have to bring it to the teacher attention. We will complete all of the assignment but it will be known that one of the team player has not participated in any of the assignments. Making the best of the Learning Team Being in a learning team there are many advantages and disadvantages. Working in a learning team you get the habit of working with a diverse group of people. It helps one to become open minded to accept the ideas of others. When working in learning team you’re having a difficult time with something you can turn to your team for help...

...Team Dynamics My team experience Ruth Nadia Alico University of Colorado Colorado Springs Team Dynamics Teams are groups of people who work together to achieve a common goal. Groups are also people who work together. They may or may not work toward the same goal. Each member in a team or group acquires different qualifications and expertise. Team’s Dynamics describe the way in which people in a group interact with one another. When dynamics are positive, teams work well together. On the other hand, if your team’s dynamics is poor, it will affect your team performance. Therefore, it is important for teams to value the conflict of dynamics and eventually hope that teams can control whatever that come in their way. Conflict isn’t something that teams can control from time to time. It is natural. For example; before a baby start to walk, he or she have to face many challenges (crawl, fall etc.…). By natural I meant that conflict can occur whenever and anytime even thou if they are not prepare to face it. The important thing that teams should consider doing when conflicts happen is to think of a solution to solve it. Conflict isn't necessarily a bad thing. Conflict arises from differences between team members; the same differences that often make diverse teams more effective than those made up of people with similar experience. Having different point of view, experiences, skills, and opinions in teams are tasked with a project or challenge, the combined effort can far...

...approaches to teams and teamwork can be found in the workplace today and with organizations struggling to be flexible and responsive to a healthy work-life balance they have had to experiment with new information technologies. (Kreitner, Organizational Behavior pg. 316) This experimentation has led to virtual teams or physically dispersed task groups that conduct their business primarily through modern information technology and that exist outside normal channels of authority and communication. (Kreitner, Organizational Behavior pg.317) Virtual teams have become a product of modern times and Kilburg is demonstrating that he can still plan for the strategic growth of his company even by not being physically in the office, spending six weeks each summer in a beach house. With the information technologies such as the mobile internet, email, social media, and groupware he can be a member of his work team without really being there and still effectively manage. (Kreitner, Organizational Behavior pg. 317) As long as Kilburg’s employees feel properly supported by him then being out of the office can be redeeming in freeing up others to grow and develop on their own. If he has done his job then he has developed a motivated, passionate and responsible team that will produce whether or not he is there and in face to face contact with them. Kilburg feels as a competent boss that he has provided his employees with the proper tools, training and expectations to be part of a virtual team and continued...

...interesting twist for this paper to be addressing how sports help or facilitate this development, because going through my adolescence, sports were very important. I feel that participating in sports gave entry to interactions with a number of new people, to keep you socially up to date. With involvement in a league, team, etc., people can establish who they want to be by establishing their relationships with others, and progressing towards a desired identity. In addition, being part of a team allows an individual to gauge themselves against their fellow peers, and see if they are on the same level, or feel inferior. Throughout this paper I am going to explore different steps and events that take place in the social development of adolescence of males in relation to sports. A starting point for social development of adolescence is finding an individual’s identity. At this adolescent stage, you are able to think more critically and abstractly than you do when you are younger (McGrath, 2009). Therefore you can find a deeper perception of yourself and how you want to be presented. In a society where there is an “ideal” state of being, especially in sports, of being a big, strong, tough guy. This can lead to young males internalizing the idea that they have to be big and strong, when it is not the case. Furthermore, as is the case out of sports, identify can be influence by appearance. In sports, you are viewed “cooler” by your peers is...

At the beginning of the novel, Paul is very isolated from people because of his brother Erik's terrible acts and his parents unsupportiveness. For instance, on page 27, Paul writes, “ ‘Mrs.Fisher,I’d like to get you to fill out an IEP for Paul-an individualized education plan.Being vision impaired,Paul is entitled to take part in our IEP program.Basically we identify Paul's situation, set specific goals for him achieve, and note any special needs he may have.”...

...When I became part of the Band, I learned what it it mean to be part of a team, how to be responsible, how to support others in my group, how to be comfortable expressing myself and voicing my opinion, and what it feels like to be part of a successful team. Band has also taught me to put the needs of a group above my own. I understand how the good of the group outweighs the good of the individual. I want to be a leader in the band program so that I can help my fellow Band members learn all the lessons I've learned and have fun doing it. I want band to touch other student’s lives the way it touched mine. Leaders can make a difference in the success of an organization. To me, leaders should be someone that the other team members look up to and follow the example being set. Being a leader means giving more, working harder, and rising above the frustrations and continuing to smile. A good leader never asks their team to do more than what they are willing do. I want to be a leader so I can make a difference in peoples lives and help make the Band better. I am proud to be a part of the Band. If I am able to continue to be part of the leadership team, my goal is to continue to be a positive influence and help the band be successful. I want to help the other band students finish marching season and help them realize that they have done something incredible. I am focused, driven, a hard worker, and I never stop trying. All of these qualities are essential to being a good leader...
