...My Life Changing Call: Amy Jo Sanchez Beckfield College Abstract My Life Changing Call Let me start by telling you that it has been extremely difficult to do a career change into something that has no real adrenalin rush for me. I have ADD and the adrenalin is what hooked me when I started in EMS over 17 years ago. I fell in love immediately and still love it to this day. The feeling you get helping people in some of the worst times of their lives even in the end of their life is unexplainable. It sometimes makes you question what there is after death. It’s one of those things that you don’t talk about in EMS or your own family. I have never told anyone that I question if there is an afterlife after death. All I know is that death is inevitable. Let me begin by telling you about the call that changed my life and pushed me to make a career change. It was a beautiful morning on March 21st 2013 and my partner and I had just delivered a patient to the emergency room and got an alarm for a new call, one that would forever change my life. The alarm came in as I was putting my stretcher into the back of my ambulance it was for a baby shot in the head. ...One of the standout occasions I have had to react and deal with a change imposed on my life was moving out of my parent’s home into my own place, which I am fully responsible for. This change may seem like a planned change but my parents made the decision to move to the south for work purposes so I was left with the decision to stay home where I grew up or create a new life in the south. ...Is America still the bully? This poem is really interesting combining history and imagery at the same time. Irony is a central theme in the poem. Roosevelt statue seems to be assigned with a role of the bully since we know who the weaker party was during the Spanish American War. The imagery of war is associated with the sounds of the poem. You do have to have a background in understanding the events described. During the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt was a major supporter of going to war with the Spanish, although it was seen as unnecessary by President McKinley and others (Spanish-American War). Initially Roosevelt is not painted in such a negative light. The statue is described as being “nostalgic” of a time long lost, and imagery is used to support this. “Each fist lonely for a saber, or the reins of anguish-eyed horses.” After this, though, it presents imagery of Hispanic children “invading” the school. It closes with a description of the statue in an almost silly way, as it is about to be vandalized with “parrot-brilliant” colors across its mustache and monocle. At the same time Espada also talks of the desegregation movements and immigration occurring in Boston and America. The poem contrasts the beliefs Roosevelt had of ethnocentrism and reasons for invading the Caribbean with that of the desegregation movements in Boston. Through thoughts and emotions, Parker shows the fear the teenager faces when trying to tell her grandmother. My mother was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus in the middle of March in 2007. Discoid Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that is limited to the skin, caused by the autoimmune system. Along with Discoid Lupus, she was also diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis also known as RA; this is also an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints. After finding out the diagnoses, the doctor tells her she won’t be able to work anymore. This was devastating for my mother to hear. Working was another life for her. She loved her job. This book is a fiction story written by a French writer, Jules Verne. In this story, an Englishman, Phileas Fogg and his new French valet Passepartout attempt to travel around the world within eighty days just because he had a huge wager with his friends at the club. Mr Fogg wants to prove his contention that one can travel around the world in only eighty days. During their journey around the world, they met many friends and faced tons of challenges and difficulties. Besides the interesting and vivid plot of the story, this inspiring book has taught me three things when facing difficulties in life: never give up, caring others, and do something meaningful in life. First of all, of the many things that I learned from this book, one of them is overcoming difficulties. Traveling around the world in eighty days is a daydream for many persons but Mr Fogg made it successfully because he insisted and did not give up.
