...Arsenal Football Club were formed as Dial Square in 1886 by workers at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, south-east London, and were renamed Royal Arsenal shortly afterwards.[8] The club were renamed again to Woolwich Arsenal after becoming a limited company in 1893.[9] The club became the first southern member of the Football League in 1893, starting out in the Second Division, and won promotion to the First Division in 1904. The club's relative geographic isolation resulted in lower attendances than those of other clubs, which led to the club becoming mired in financial problems and effectively bankrupt by 1910, when they were taken over by businessmenHenry Norris and William Hall.[10] Norris sought to move the club elsewhere, and in 1913, soon after relegation back to the Second Division, Arsenal moved to the new Arsenal Stadium in Highbury, north London; they dropped "Woolwich" from their name the following year.[11] Arsenal only finished in fifth place in the second division during the last pre-war competitive season of 1914–15, but were nevertheless elected to rejoin the First Division when competitive football resumed in 1919–20, at the expense of local rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Some books have reported that this election to division 1 was achieved by dubious means.[12] Arsenal appointed Herbert Chapman as manager in 1925. Having already won the league twice with Huddersfield Town in 1923–24 and1924–25 (see Seasons in English football), Chapman brought Arsenal their first...

In retrospect it is understandable; the gloomy and restrictive situation of the country locked in the interminable shackle of debt from which it seemed almost impossible to free itself, gave absolutely no hint at the transformation to come. Soccer Player Wages

...league. It is hard to justify these soccer players getting paid so much when they no longer seem to have any passion for the game. When players are representing their country playing for the national team many no longer sing the national anthem when it is being played before the game unlike the rugby players who sing there national anthem with such pride. It seems that soccer players are now only in it for the money and they don’t even care about winning cups or medals anymore. An example of this is a soccer player called Lucas Neil who when it came to choosing which club he was going to play for he chose to go and play for West Ham, even though he was being offered a contract with Liverpool who are a much bigger club with a far better history and are a club who have always been at the top whereas West Ham are a club in the middle/lower end...

Assuch, teams can no longer rely on mobilizing fan support and sponsorship capital intheir home market alone. In the same way corporations are guided by a compelling andoriginal idea that forms the basis for their brand strategy, so too must sporting teams. The purpose of this paper is to draw parallels between “conventional” brands like Appleand Disney, and to articulate what sporting teams can learn from those companies inthe management of their own brands. Brand Strategy For Sporting Teams By any definition, sporting teams today are big businesses. Harvard Professor StephenGreyser has observed that in recent times we have seen teams migrate from the sportspages to the business pages and, now sometimes, to the front page (Comeau, 2005).Like other large corporations, teams employ great numbers of people, generate profitsand losses, all the while seeking to achieve success against certain performancemetrics. And like other businesses, they have to perform well, remain financially viableand satisfy several stakeholders who have a financial interest in...

...Amid the many celebrations last Christmas Eve, in various places by different persons, there was one, in New York City, not like any other anywhere. A company of men, women, and children went together just after the evening service in their church, and, standing around the tomb of the author of "A Visit from St. Nicholas," recited together the words of the poem which we all know so well and love so dearly. Dr. Clement C. Moore, who wrote the poem, never expected that he would be remembered by it. If he expected to be famous at all as a writer, he thought it would be because of the Hebrew Dictionary that he wrote. He was born in a house near Chelsea Square, New York City, in 1781; and he lived there all his life. It was a great big house, with fireplaces in it;—just the house to be living in on Christmas Eve. Dr. Moore had children. He liked writing poetry for them even more than he liked writing a Hebrew Dictionary. He wrote a whole book of poems for them. One year he wrote this poem, which we usually call "'Twas the Night before Christmas," to give to his children for a Christmas present. They read it just after they had hung up their stockings before one of the big fireplaces in their house. Afterward, they learned it, and sometimes recited it, just as other children learn it and recite it now. It was printed in a newspaper. Then a magazine printed it, and after a time it was printed in the school readers. Later it was printed by itself, with pictures. Then it was translated...

Currently, Jack Kennedy is Vice President and General Manager at CMC. It is a private company that has been family-owned and operated for 110 years. CMC employs about 350 employees. Jiffy has also succeeded in holding its position as a sales leader using their philosophy against their competition. CMC competitors include large, established companies like General Mills and Pillsbury. Its early beginnings can be traced back to a time where almost every town had a mill which was used to ground wheat from local farms. The Chelsea Milling Company was founded in 1887 when a fellow by the name of E. K. White purchased the mill in the small town of Chelsea, Michigan.
