Tlk No. 116 – Choose Your Friends Wisely

Choosing friends is one of the important decisions of a person’s life. If you choose your friends wisely you are likely to benefit from their good abilities and attributes. On other side, if your friends are bad, they can likely influence you badly. (Pro 13: 20) The consequence of a bearing friendship with bad or stupid ones is even worse than expected.

How can we make good friends?

God’s worshippers knew the importance of making good friends (e.g. David Ps 64: 2). So if you want to make real or good friends, firstly, you need to get to know their worth for you. This actually means to understand their value in your life.
We just read the words of David, who was well aware of the value or worth of true friends. David knew that true friends need to be recognised and accepted regardless of their age, social, educational and financial status.

For Instance, the David had a closest friendship with Jonathan, who was about 30 years elder than David. The bible mention the foundation of their friendship as love, which was strange than the love of woman. Even, they are described to start loving each other as themselves (1-Sam 18: 1-4).

The Lesson
If you judge others (friends) keeping in consideration their age, social, educational and financial status perhaps you are not to be successful in finding good and real friends. At contrast, the chances are you can miss to have many good friends wandering around you. If you have your own specific standards of keeping friendship such as specific range of age, education, category and so on, then actually It can become a hindrance in finding true friendship.

Consider the example of Karen who had some friends in her college or university “I had a couple of friends” she says “Then they started being friends with one other girl and if I’d walk up to them, they’d stop talking.

...Dania Shaikh BBA 2 Hindsight Essay A true friend is one who helps you when you are in crisis then the one who stays with you just for fun. You do not need friends to have fun as there are many activities to entertain you. We need friends to help us when we need them. A real friend will appear in proper time and will always be with you to enjoy the happy moments and console you during the sad moments of your life. Going through hardship together makes two friends bond stronger. A good friend is man’s precious possession. The real worth of people is known when we fall on bad days. Those who stand by us through thick and thin are real friends. Previously I used to trust all my friends. I used to consider all of them my true friends. The company of my friends used to make me feel happy and this life worth living. I considered them as a blessing but it took me time to realize that it is important to choose your friends wisely and differentiate between your friends and your enemies. Not all your friends will help you and stand by your side when you will need them. One day after school, I and my friend were walking back home. We both were busy talking that we didn’t realize we are passing through a desolate street full of dogs. There were 4 to 5 wild dogs that started following us. I saw them coming towards us, I asked my friend to run. My friend suggested that we both climb the tree. I told her I don’t know how to climb. She said then you go and find a way to escape from this danger...

Pros and Cons Essay

...years and cats for 7,000 (Cats vs Dogs, n.d.). It appears in my research that most people that were asked this question “which makes a better pet, a dog or a cat” replied with the answer “dogs,” but if dogs are the better pet then why is it that there are 96.3 million homes that own cats and only 77.5 million homes that own dogs. The scientists at Oxford University released a study that claims dogs are smarter than cats and The London Daily Telegraph has reported dogs have been named as more social animals and therefore have bigger brains than the “alone loving cat” (Gatton Star, 2010, p.11). Here is something to think about: have you ever heard of a cat running full speed into a glass door? Sure a dog is a “man’s best friend” and is always there by your side, he can catch a ball in his mouth, and he knows exactly when he is in trouble, but one thing you can say for a cat is that he thinks for himself. Cats will not do anything they do not want to do – something quite intelligent. A cat does not fetch, instead they simply stare at you in a judgmental way as if to say “You threw the ball, go get it yourself. I am busy.” (Gatton Star, 2010, p.11). There are many pros and cons of cats and...

Friend Essay

...Animal species of friends Friends are a group of people in your life that you choose to surround yourself with. Here are some of the types of friends that I have classified: outgoing, spontaneous, shy, and ruthless. I have had all different kinds of friends in the past couple years so I have become introduced to the stereotypes there are. There have been times I have gotten myself into trouble with befriending the bad ones and had some of the best memories with the good ones. There are many types of friends but the best ones are outgoing and spontaneous. The slow sloth: This friend is shy and quiet. Can be seen lying on the couch lounging around a lot. Like a sloth this friend lives a slow life with little adventure. They can be boring, unsocial, and lazy. The slow sloth will make excuses when asked out. They will say “I am tired” or “I’m not feeling well” to escape from going out and socializing with other people. This sloth might just put a damper in your lifestyle. As an introvert friend I’m sure there is definite jealousy over the “Courageous lion”. The courageous lion: An outgoing and joyous person who adapts to any situation. This friend always has your attention and is constantly surrounded by people. You will almost never find this friend at home on the weekends for they love to go out and socialize. Like a lion this friend comes in packs because everyone loves to be around them. Although an outgoing friend is like a spontaneous friend there are some differences...

This is what she says, "I'm just a person, a kid, there's not much I can do because I'm just a drop in a sea full of people, but every drop added can start a ripple which can start a wave of change. No matter what the outcome is we will always be that drop that starts that ripple that creates that wave that will reach so many people beyond our vision, so what's a better time than now to start our wave?" This quote really inspired me because I think a lot of kids including me feel like since we are just kids we can't make a change, but this quote really says that we can make a change no matter how old we are. ...how your everyday influences can affect your academics. Some other influences are school and social media. All of these influences have played a major part in my academic success. In this essay I will explain how these influences can affect your academics in a positive and negative way. First off a major influence in everyone’s life are parents. My parents supported me to complete high school and further my education by going to college. They also told me to do my best. My parents do a lot for me and I don’t want to let them down by getting bad grades. Parents are responsible for raising their children to be responsible and reach their full potential. Now not all parents do this but the ones who do make their child successful in school will get them extra help if they are struggling with a course and encourage them to do their best in school. The parents who don’t raise their child well affect the child’s academic success. Those parents are care free and don’t understand the importance of an education. Most kids inherit parent’s beliefs so if the parents don’t understand the importance of school then the kid will think the same. Some children can tell the differences from right and wrong with out the parent support but it’s a low percentage. Parents don’t need to take that chance. Our children are the future and we need to start raising them right so that can they can achieve academic success and become leaders. With this in mind, friends are...

Having friends is also important; however, the point is to choose wisely and surround yourself with well-wishing and loyal people which won’t stab you in the back when you will need help. ...A New School Year Timothy R Schmoyer 8/22/01 WEEK ONE - INTRODUCTION It was a fog-shrouded morning, July 4, 1952, when a young woman named Florence Chadwick waded into the water off Catalina Island. She intended to swim the channel from the island to the California coast. Long-distance swimming was not new to her; she had been the first woman to swim the English Channel in both directions. The water was numbing cold that day. The fog was so thick she could hardly see the boats in her party. Several times sharks had to be driven away with rifle fire. She swam more than fifteen hours before she asked to be taken out of the water. Her trainer tried to encourage her to swim on since they were so close to land, but when Florence looked, all she saw was fog. So she quit . . . only one-half mile from her goal. Later she said, “I’m not excusing myself, but if I could have seen the land, I might have made it.” It wasn’t the cold or fear or exhaustion that caused Florence Chadwick to fail – it was the fog. Many times we too fail, not because we’re afraid or because of the peer pressure or because of anything other than the fact that we lose sight of the goal. Maybe that’s why Paul said, “I press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:14). Two months after her failure, Florence Chadwick walked off the same beach into the same channel and swam the distance, setting a new speed record, because she could see the land, she kept...
