Rajasthan, or the realm of the Kings, as it is known, is perhaps one of the princely states of all in India. Its history is abundant with stories and legends about its kings and rulers. In its golden age, the region was ruled by the Rajputs, and in their honor the state was known as Rajputana in its erstwhile years. These were the royal people, the Kshatriyas, the warriors and they were known to be fierce fighters, extremely proud of their heritage and position. But the state itself comprised of many other people groups, most of them tribal in nature. The state even now comprises of five major tribal people groups with many other either being the branches of these major groups or minor ones. These five tribal groups are Mina, Bhil, Garasia, Saharia and Damor. Of these tribal groups, the Minas are the largest of the lot with almost a share of close to 50 percent of the total population; Bhils come close with a population of 45 percent and then come the Garasias with a population comprising 3-4 percent of the total population of tribal people. This period was marked by the rise of militarism that attempted to make Japan a centralized government. During this time the imperial line remained unchallenged and exercised a vast amount of power. In 1333, the Kamakura shogunate was overthrown by warrior forces and Go-Daigo became the emperor . Go-Daigo belonged to a branch of the Fuijiwara house. He believed that the overthrow of the shogunate was a sign to revive what he believed was the most efficient form of government, the direct imperial rule. This period marked by imperial restoration was called “Kenmu Restoration” and lasted until 1336. As competition for power and land rose, the government was unable to stabilize the country. Two key figures Nitta Yoshida and Ashikaga Takauji were the faces to the struggle for power. Since they could not reach consensus Japan was split in two and the “War Between the Northern (Kyoto) and the Southern (Yoshino) Court,” began. It is the victories, and failures of these heroes that teach the world of Japanese traditions and honor. However, these men were not created for the education of the world, but rather for the centuries of Japanese people whom these figures represent. Warrior tales of Minamoto no Tametomo, Minamoto no Yoshitomo, Minamoto no Yoshinaka, and Minamoto no Yoshitsune have a greater purpose than to provide entertainment to the people of Japan, these men provide a Japanese education on personality, values, morals, and Japanese customs.
