Dear Paul, • The resources at university of phoenix are great we have an online library that gives you access to virtually anything. They have some really cool writing centers and for me and my scattered brain, I think it’s going to help me put all my thought’s down effectively. They even have a center to help out for math. The online classroom and campus is so easy to navigate and get used to. I really like the online classroom environment and discussion. It is fun to interact with classmates from around the country. The online books are cool too! But the biggest thing is the faculty and staff at Phoenix is really what made this all possible for me from the ease of the enrollment to financial process. Different Communication Styles Among Management

...Lisosky Different Communication Styles Among Management BUS501: Business Communication Dr. Conry August 30th, 2015 Introduction This paper will explore the communication styles of two different managers from the author's current or most recent workplace. The manager's styles of communications will be compared and contrasted. Technology also plays a role in communication style, which will be further discussed. This paper will determine which manager has the most effective form of communication as well as determine long-term consequences for each manager's communication style. Every manager or leader has a distinct style of communication. The style of communication affects the manager's ability to connect with others. It also affects how the manager is perceived by others and whether those people will trust the manager. The Four Styles of Communication There are four main styles of communication: the support-relater, the analyzer-thinker, the promoter-socializer, and the controller-director (Stirling, 2009). The support-relater is a person who is very easy to work with and strives for good team morale (Communication Styles). The analyzer-thinker is a person who is socially reserver and has a more analytical communication style (Fung, 2014). The promoter-socializer prefers to work with others and build social relationships. They also have a fast-paced, aggressive communication style (Communication Styles). The fourth and final communication style is the controller-director...

Communication in Your Workplace

...Managerial Communications (Man-373) 6 November 2011 Communication in Your Workplace Effective communication in business is imperative when it comes to the success of a business. Every aspect of a business requires communication. Communication within a company may have started out with one style and then changed throughout the years. Some other companies may have never adapted to our changing society and have found themselves obsolete. Some companies have adapted to different forms of communication based off of the type of business conducted and internal components that the company faces. Today, I will focus on three specific forms of business communication discussed in the book, the scientific management style, the human approach and the contingency approach. I have incorporated parts of these three approaches in my professional career. I have seen different styles of management communication, even within the same company. I have worked for United Parcel Service, or UPS, for over 22 years. Over half of that time spent in various levels of management. The relationship between management and front line, non-management employees follows the scientific management style. This differs from the communication style that exists between management. The style that has evolved between management follows the contingency approach. These styles have evolved, over the years, because of its unique business structure. The communication between management and employees has changed...

Communication Style Case Study

...Communication Style Case Study Rosa Olivia Ramos HCS 350 November 12, 2012 Katherine Brewer Communication Style Case Study There are a variety of communication styles and some are better than others. I will analyze three scenarios and explain if a passive, assertive, aggressive, or passive-aggressive communication style was used. I will also discuss a personal experience where a passive communication style was used. I will discuss how I could improve the communication and how communicating effectively is important in the health care profession and to the outcome of this interaction. The first case study was about a nurse, Robin, who used an aggressive communication style toward Rashad, a healthcare assistant. During a team meeting, Robin stated that Rashad was just an aide who was to obey the RN’s and not think for himself. Robin spoke her mind, did not filter her thoughts, and was blunt. Her voice was raised and she embarrassed Rashad and belittled him in front of co-workers. Robin attacked Rashad in a hostile manner which makes her communication style aggressive. “Aggressive behavior is an encroachment or attack upon another and is almost always hostile in intent” (Hansten & Jackson, 2009, p. 281). Robin is being emotionally honest by verbally expressing what she actually feels, even though the unkind words may offend or hurt others. Rashad, in turn, displayed a passive communication style because he didn’t respond to her. He stayed quiet and instead started...

Communication Styles

...Learning Team Communication Style Case Study HCS/350 Learning Team Communication Style Case Study Successful communication skills are essential to achieve a positive work environment. Words should be carefully chosen to communicate a message of trust, respect, and teamwork. Sometimes in the quest to communicate with co-workers, it becomes difficult to use the right words and tone. The words they use and the way in which they are delivered to the delegate make the difference between a successful and a frustrating episode in delegation (Hansten & Jackson, p. 278). In this paper, our team will review three case studies. The case studies show different communication styles. These styles include: aggressive, passive or nonaggressive, and assertive. The team will examine what took place between the delegator and the delegate in each case study, explain the communication style, and discuss the consequences. Case Study One For the first case study, Robin, a psych nurse, is communicating in an aggressive style with the nurse’s aid, Rashad. She is rude and condescending to Rashad’s words. In return, Rashad remains quiet: a passive response. Rashad’s thoughts are passive aggressive and could not be read by others. At first, Rashad was passive by sitting quietly and not speaking, but had thoughts of future passive-aggressive behaviors to retaliate against the nurse. Aggressive and passive-aggressive communication lays the ground work for tension-filled...

Each group member needs to pay attention to the other group members' personalities and different learning styles, so that we respect where each other are coming from. If each member of the group pays attention to their fellow learners' personality types and learning styles, they can come up with a plan that will help them collaborate with other students by communicating effectively. When I did the Multiple Pathways to Learning and the Personality Spectrum assessments, I found out that I am a Visual-Spatial learner and that my dominant personality type is an Organizer. This helps me be a successful student because it will allow me to come up with the best possible study habits and techniques for me, personally. It is not only useful for me to know my own study habits, but it is important that I learn how I can best interact with the other students and their particular learning styles and personality types. My dominant style of learning is Visual-Spatial, but a group is usually made up of a wide variety of learning styles. Learning styles include the Verbal-Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, and Interpersonal learning styles. Carter...

The individual’s assessments place the members into three of the four styles; Cautious Style, Steadiness Style, and Dominance Style. Since additional members may be added to the team or included in future learning teams, the professional development plan will also include the Interactive Style. Understanding the differences between the behavioral styles is instrumental for a team leader to know “how to engage others whose own DiSC styles may be quite different” (Sugerman, 2009, para.9). Team DISC Overview A company named Kudu Industries and Murray Janewski developed the DISC assessment to determine an individual’s strengths, weaknesses, as a means to identify how to communicate more effectively (Sugerman, 2009). “DiSC research shows that every individual has a set of priorities that influence their behavior. By better understanding the priorities and motivations of their own colleagues, Kudu felt its employees would better communicate to one another.” (Sugerman, 2009, para.7). The DISC behavioral assessment was the first step the team took to identify his or her individual behavioral style. The styles...

Leadership Style Leadership style found in an organization with regard to communication plays an important role. The leadership style of Starbucks helps in the determination of how effective the communication being given will be. The leadership style chosen for Starbucks can affect the environment of the business as well as how well the employees produce. Discussed below is the effect leadership style has on organizational communication for Starbucks. Autocratic: this leadership style is one where the leaders “assume positions of intellectual and behavioral superiority in groups. They make the decisions, give the orders, and generally control all activities” (Robbins & Judge, 2011). This leadership style will affect Starbucks in a broader manner.
