From the earliest times the need to carry out calculations has been developing. The first steps in involving the development of counting and calculation aids such as the counting board and the abacus. The word ‘computer’ is an old word that has changed its meaning several times last few centuries. Originating from the Latin by the mid-17th century it meant ‘someone who computes’. The American heritage dictionary (1980) gives its first computer definition as ‘a person who computes’ meaning to calculate. Today, the word computer refers to computing devices that can store, retrieve and process data. The term ‘computer’ is derived from Latin word “computer” meaning to calculate. In the past computer is restricted only to arithmetic calculation. In the past time the weight of the computer is very heavy and also has large surface area. It can moved from one place to another place. It is as big as one class room. It also cannot be operated with one or even with few persons.
