Definition of Delegation
Delegation: Transferring to a competent individual the authority to perform a selected nursing task in a selected situation. The nurse retains accountability for the delegation.

Most nurses would rather do the tasks themselves, but they can not perform all of them safely. According to Hansten & Jackson, “it is our responsibility to the patients we care for to ensure that they receive the best that we can offer by delegating wisely”.
