Equality, diversity and rights are all a part of social care. Discriminatory practice is when individuals are discriminated against during health and social care services, this can be hidden or out in the open, this is called covert abuse of power is when an individual uses a hidden power to discriminate in terms of health and social care. This can lead to professional treating individuals differently than others.
Individuals in health and social care are vulnerable and so they can be mistreated, Infringement of rights is when we are not respecting individual rights and not letting them practise their religion or culture. This may then lead an individual feeling devalued and unhappy, which can then affect their health. People can be discriminated …show more content…
Culture is very important for an individual as it is their way of life and their identity. It also shows what his/hers rules and morals, however this is disliked by others as they might not understand another’s way of living or might see it as different and feel as though it doesn’t fit their daily lives.
Religion. In care homes careers should tailor their care skills to help provide the best service for individuals and so if a person faith is Islam and they are Muslim and they have set values, the career should respect the person’s religion by helping set up time for their time for prayer (5 times a day) and also the type of food they eat (Halal food). A career that might not understand or choose to be selfish and not be opened minded, and not try to understand it could discriminate against them and not make time at all or respect the way they dress.
Disability. Treating someone unfairly who has physical and mental impairments is disability discrimination. For example if someone didn’t get a job because they are unable bodied, however this has been reduced as the UK Government made a law against this called the Disability
