Google Inc - What advice would you give Brin, Page, and Schmidt?

Co-founder of Yahoo, Jerry Yang, makes an agreeable statement that "we have to follow the law," in regards to conducting business in China; a country with many strict rules, regulations, and laws placed upon businesses, particularly search engine companies, who wish to do business in the country (Argenti, 2009, p. 20). While it may seem unusual and as though a violation of human rights within some western cultures, particularly in the United States, to restrict a population from gaining access to certain information, whether it be on the Internet or not, all business leaders from around the world can benefit from understanding and respecting the country and culture in which the company wishes to conduct business.

Advice to Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, and CEO Eric Schmidt, would be to adhere to the cultural customs and laws within the countries they wish to establish business in and build a rapport with such countries as to create potential allies and long term positive relationships, opposed to creating conflict over cultural differences. Healthcare practitioner, Linda Laskowski-Jones states that while "cultural competence" is required to produce the highest quality products and services, "we also need to develop our skills in intraprofessional cultural competence", which is the ability to work together within the multitude of different cultures within an industry (Nursing, 2012, p. 6). Togetherness and cooperation are essential for any business relationship to operate effectively and produce longevity. Author Richard Lewis suggests that business professionals of Australian, Canadian, and Finn descent, as well as Chinese professionals who are from countries other than mainland China, are of the most effective leaders to lead international business teams, due to their "laid-back qualities". Lewis states, "They have been around the world and they know that people have to be treated in different ways. This makes them extremely useful team members at all levels because they can help to bridge different cultures" (Chynoweth, 2012, p. 6). In regards to where Americans rank on the list of effective international leaders, Lewis states that Americans "tend not to fare as well at the top of international teams. They are good at leading their own people but they are very intense, and in a mixed team an intense American will encounter resistance from more laid-back nationalities" (Chynoweth, 2012, p. 6).

Knowing that American business professionals may often be seen as an aggressor when it comes to international business, the American professional can benefit from understanding that "culture significantly influences an individuals behaviour and globalisation has led to newer cultural juxtapositions"(Business Line, 2012). Therefore, efforts to persuade a country outside of one's own home country to follow customs that are unfamiliar, foreign, or possibly even held in low regard, in an attempt to make the country operate more like one's own home country, is not considered an ideal tactic. Such attempts are likely to come across as rude and possibly seen as disrespectful, which can create unnecessary culture clashes that lead to severed business relationships that may have been effective had respect for the foreign country been the number one priority. It is clear that individuals and the companies that individuals operate are to adhere to the laws set forth by the rulers and governments of each country if the individuals and the companies they operate wish to stay in good graces with the international countries in which they wish to conduct business.

...there is usually far too much for just you to do, therefore it is important to learn what to delegate and who to delegate it to. The most important tasks should be done by the supervisor but as far as things such as someone’s vacation hours and stocking merchandise for the store, those tasks should be delegated out to the assistant manager and to the store clerks. Being a supervisor means being in a role of leadership, logic, common sense, and decision making for yourself, the employees, and for the company. The “in Basket” debate and discussion gives us and our fellow classmates the opportunity to see if we can successfully delegate out certain tasks as a supervisor at a fictitious company. The discussion between me and fellow classmates was a great one and it appeared as though everyone agreed on everything accept for different incidents. The only two incidents where I came across disagreement were in regards to task number 3, and task number 4. These are the examples in which I will be using in this paper as far as disagreeing is concerned. Task number 3 is in regards to the mall hours changing for an upcoming holiday and that there is a request for store plans. In my own opinion and the opinion of all of my fellow classmates accept for one that I could find agreed that this task needed to be done by the Supervisor. The disagreeing student felt that it should be delegated to the Assistant Manager. This task should be done by the supervisor because it is not only a very important...

Orson Welles Justice = mid-12c., "the exercise of authority in vindication of right by assigning reward or punishment;" also "quality of being fair and just," from Old French justice "justice, legal rights, jurisdiction" (11c.), from Latin iustitia "righteousness, equity," from iustus "upright, just" . The Old French word had widespread senses, including "uprightness, equity, vindication of right, court of justice, judge." Unit 4 Discussion

...Unit 4 Discussion 1: Compromising an Online System Learning Objectives and Outcomes * You will be able to explore how a Linux system can get compromised. * You will examine ways in which a well-secured Linux filesystem can mitigate risks. Assignment Requirements The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is a reputable open source foundation that has a history of developing and maintaining many open source products, including the Apache Web Server. In April 2010, the ASF discovered that their server hosting issue-tracking software was “hacked.” You can read a report on the incident on the following Web link: * https://blogs.apache.org/infra/entry/apache_org_04_09_2010 This report documents how a vulnerability was exploited, which solutions worked, which didn't work, and the measures planned by the Apache Infrastructure Team to mitigate future risks. Security is a layered process. Although the hackers took advantage of a vulnerable third-party Web application to gain root access to ASF’s Linux infrastructure, you need to focus on the layers of security that worked and failed on the Linux infrastructure, and how this vulnerability could have been avoided with a more secure Linux server. Discuss how the hackers took advantage of the JIRA daemon. What role did Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) play in this process? What are the security measures that you would recommend to mitigate such risks in the future? Participate in this discussion by engaging in a meaningful...

...Lesly Castillo August 29, 2012 Discussion Board 4 Describe when and why central banks buy either their own currency or the currency of another nation in an effort to control exchange rates. Central Banks has control over monetary policy. Monetary policy has three steps such as: open market operations, change in reserve requirements, and changes in the discount rate. Central bank can expand the money supply by the following; the discount rate is being reduced, Reduction in reserves requirements and bonds being purchased. Central Banks buy currency because it affects the supply of money. Many central banks may require that most foreign exchange receipts (generally from exports) be exchanged for the local currency. The bank is marked-based the local currency being purchased by the rate being used. Money supply is increased by the central bank when it purchases the foreign currency by selling the local currency. The central bank may reduce the money supply by many reasons which include selling bonds or foreign exchange interventions. ...There are nearly as many WAN categories as there are LAN choices. A very simple WAN is nothing more than two PCs calling each other over a modem connection. A more complex WAN may involve connecting hundreds of organizations together with high-capacity digital circuits. Usually a WAN takes the form of something between these extremes. What expansion of network services and benefits might the library achieve? I personally believe the library can accomplish more free will in offering the Wi-Fi for its supporters. Which is done by going with a wireless operation ads opposed to a tough line makes sense from a theoretical point. What LAN protocol and related transmission speed are most appropriate for the local libraries: Ethernet, fast Ethernet, or gigabit Ethernet? From my research I came to the understanding that the Ethernet protocol documents can be transmitted over wireless admission points, twisted pair, coaxial, or backbone optic cable at a speed of 10 Mbps up to 1000 Mbps. Also, Fast Ethernet obligates the use of diverse, more exclusive network concentrators and network boundary cards. Fast Ethernet is becoming mutual in schools that have been wired lately. What topology is most appropriate for the LANs and the WAN? What are their merits? In this particular case Hubs or switches can be attached to one another to produce greater LANs capable of supportive devices. When this comes to a completion, you began getting some stimulating hybrid topologies. The greatest...

...ME1115: Week 4 Assignment 1. Briefly describe a conflict in your personal life or workplace and identify it as intrapersonal, interpersonal, or intergroup. I’m going to discuss an intrapersonal conflict that I experienced with myself. I am the type of person who says that I want something and that I’m going to do it or get it, but I end up not going through with it. Take when I was in school for example. I had it in my mind that I was going to go to the Air Force Reserves, it was just something about the thought of going off and experiencing life and seeing and learning new things. I signed up in my senior year of high school took the oath and everything. Before I knew it I was it was time for graduation. In my mind I was ready but in my heart I wasn’t really ready to just leave my family, I had really never gone anywhere and I was a shy teenager so leaving and not being around them was going to be different. I had bit of a stand still because the day that I was supposed to go to the Air Force Base where I would be going through basic training I was like 5 pounds’ overweight and so the first thing that came to mind was “that’s it I’m going home before I even get started” that right there was a conflict in itself. I had kind of given up I called my parents and they talked with me and prayed with me that everything works out like it’s supposed to. The next day I was shipped off to Basic Training. Even throughout basic training I experienced intrapersonal conflicts it was like...

Discussion Post 4

...Justin Baghai DQ3 1. Human Resources has the possibility to impact a firm’s profitability on several levels. First, I will discuss how an HR department in a firm can make the company more profitable. For example, the HR department of a company is responsible for hiring the most qualified employees with the highest motivation and skill. This takes a lot of practice and skill to be able to find the right people. By hiring the best and brightest of the talent pool, employees are more likely to come up with innovative ideas and push the company forward, bringing in extra revenue. This is one way that HR can help the company change their profitability and increase their value. Also, HR is in charge of providing their current employees with the latest training in their respective field. HR can set up seminars, webinars, as well provide classes to their employees. By doing so, their employees will gain knowledge that they can apply to the firms business and eventually lead to better productivity. On the other hand, the HR department can cause a firm to decrease their profits. Some ways that this could occur would be an overvaluation of employee’s compensation packages, hiring unproductive employees, and having glitches in their time reporting system. For example, if the HR department does not know how much to pay each employee fairly, they could be overpaying employees, which is a cost that figures in to profitably. It is important that the HR department be aware of the market averages...

...Social Network Groups for All-“A Stupendous Idea or Security Incident Waiting to Happen?” The idea of having this social networking platform may seem like a good idea and it can be; however, the security risks it has with the current settings could really hurt the company’s reputation in the future. It makes it easy for people to link together in groups setting but in reality it is sharing too much unnecessary information with third parties applications. The current settings could lead to malicious users to exploit the vulnerabilities. The reasons to exploit the vulnerabilities in this platform setting are summarized to obtaining personal information which can be later used to exploit the vulnerabilities from the targeted individuals. In this case with all the contacts’ email addresses being out there for everybody to see, than a hacker could use it to obtain information from their employers or personal information such as financial information. Also, by using HTML and JavaScript a hacker could do command injections which could lead to limited accessibility. The JavaScript programming language could allow standard API’s to bypass access control or security checks and also a tainted input allows code to apply its own permission during the security management check. This idea could lead to serious security issues which could impact the revenue of the company. This is idea has a lot of merit because it would allow individuals to socialize in group settings. Re: Discussion #4

...Introduction In recent years, the People’s Bank of China (PBC) has carried out monetary policy by means of reserve requirement frequently in an effort to hedge the excess liquidity in the banking system. Since the Chinese banking system contributes the most to the financial system in China, and risks exhibited by commercial banks are the biggest threat to the nation’s financial stability. The impact of monetary policy on bank risk is thus an essential issue to which should be paid great attention when establishing its macro prudential management framework. Unlike other economies in which standard one-instrument operating procedure dominates the monetary policy tools, People’s Bank of China makes a frequent adjustment on the interest rate and the reserve requirement ratio simultaneously to achieve its goals. In China, interest rates and deposit reserve decisions are taken by The Peoples' Bank of China Monetary Policy Committee. The PBOC administers two different benchmark interest rates: one year lending and one-year deposit rate. At present, China has become one of the highest reserve requirement rate country in global countries, for its reserve rate has already reached to 18.5%. In addition, the high consecutive frequency and accumulative range of the raise has been rare in the history of world monetary policy. In this paper, I will focus three main changes during 2008 to 2015, which are 2008, 2012 and 2015. By giving a brief information about those three interest rates and...
