Reflection
After conducting the interview, I realize how important our personal philosophy in becoming an effective Educational Assistant, which can be separated in two categories: impact of theories on practice and our viewpoint of a student.
On the first day of my practicum, there were a couple of EAs who asked me and my classmate what we were doing in the school. When we told them that we are in the school for a practicum and we are taking up Special Needs Educational Assistant program, both EAs gave us a surprised look and said that they did not know there is a program for EAs. ...a problem. It will also show what content should be in a job description for the human resource assistant to prevent future problems. The absence of accurate job information created a problem because there was no written job description. In this case the job description was oral and had nothing to do with the tasks that were to be performed. Virginia was not hired to be receptionist, but was put into the role of relief receptionist. This in turn led to her having to cover whole days when the receptionist was ill. She felt the low-level tasks she was asked to perform did not compare with their degree of knowledge such as her college degree or management concepts. Virginia felt that her job was not significant and she did not feel this job was meaningful. This resulted in lack of motivation and dissatisfaction on Virginia's part. In order to prevent problems, the job description for Human Resource assistance needed to contain the following information. HR job descriptions vary by location, size, and structure of the organization. In large organizations, in large cities, HR assistance might have specific duties, but in smaller organizations they could have a number of administrative tasks. The aim of the interview is to show how a graduate of a Master of Science in Nursing would adequately prepare a nurse to assume a higher role in the field of nursing practice, education or administration. This achievement offers the individual with many opportunities for growth and opens the door to different career possibilities. I chose to interview B.A., a fellow instructor at the Anaheim nursing school where we teach. Aside from knowing that she is optimally qualified to fill her post, I am also awed by how she rose from the ranks, and how she values education as the tool to reach for her dreams. Overview of Career B.A. started her career after graduating as a Medical Assistant at Everest College (formerly Bryman College), La Palma in 1991. She worked from 1991 – 1993 at a surgical group practice clinic in Cypress, and was responsible for the back room. Not content with her work, she continued with her studies and became a Certified Nursing Assistant from Long Beach City College in 1993. She worked at the Skylight Convalescent...

...2013 When a national sportswriter calls to talk about minority hiring in college basketball, folks of all races seem to get nervous. As I sought feedback following last week's release of the "2012 Racial and Gender Report Card: College Sport" by Central Florida's Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport -- the report excludes historically black colleges and universities -- which states that the current pool of Division I African-American head coaches (18.6 percent through the 2011-12 season) is at its lowest mark since the 1995-96 season, people weren't sure what, if anything, they should say. Multiple administrators passed on the opportunity. The NCAA wanted to see my questions, and then it wanted a pre-interview phone conversation before it ultimately emailed its responses. The coaches who talked on the record always ended our chats with the same concern: "I didn't say anything that will make me look bad, right?" Shaka Smart Andy Lyons/Getty Images To reach Shaka Smart's level, black coaches often have to overcome certain labels. I don't blame them. It's an incendiary issue, because we're uncomfortable with race as dialogue. It's still a subject that makes athletic directors -- 89 percent of whom are white at the Division I level, per the report -- squirm. Minority coaches speak cautiously, because they don't want to be labeled as rebels or militants. That hesitancy is a significant component in a perennial problem that's often managed but rarely attacked...
