One reason to support the view of john tweed is that in source 1 it states “people can express their opinions on issues they feel strongly about in an organised way” this shows us that the public can get involved in the matter and advocate with what people desire.
Another reason to support the view of john tweed is that in source 2 the first charts show us that 85% of the population deem that they have little influence on their country; charts two reveal that 43% of the population want to be involved a lot, this would convert the 85% into 55%. This means that a vast amount of people want change, this is what pressure groups endeavour to accomplish.
One reason to oppose the view of john tweed is that in source 3 it states that “there were rumours that if the windfarm was given the go-ahead, some campaigners were prepared to break the law and carry on a campaign of direct action” Pressure groups are malicious as they are erratic and will do anything to sustain with their goal. This is a very egotistical way to get something you want, as non-renewable resources are dissipating; a windfarm is an excellent idea to diminish the consumption of non-renewable & virulent minerals and make Scotland more eco-friendly.
Another reason to oppose the view of john tweed is that in source 1 it states that “many pressure groups abuse the rights given in a democratic society. Some pressure groups are so concerned about their own narrow interests that they will be prepared to take action that seriously disrupts the lives of the majority. Groups who break laws, use direct action and even violence are not acting in the interests of democracy” this puts the public in dangers way and even this information emits despair into the lives of society; even if the pressure groups are fighting for a good cause, perhaps the citizens of Scotland would be ashamed to concur with that cause and go
