Brilliance Devoured by Power

...extremes might be individuals who view it as a license to pursue selfish goals.” (Lee-chai & Bargh 57). For the people who survived the Marcos regime, they know certainly that Marcos was one of the latter. From a potent leader, he became obsessed with his position thus resulting to his abuse of power. In doing so, he became the dictator of a time, which a lot of Filipinos consider as one of the darkest years in Philippine history. His rise to power and the dictatorship he established was a product of both personal ambition and historical currents, both international and local. Unfortunately for present and future generations, however, this dark chapter in our history still remains unsettled. Ferdinand Marcos, son of a Filipino politician, Mariano Marcos was a UP Law graduate and was a very intellectually competent person. He once served as his own lawyer in an appeal of a case in which he was convicted guilty. Because of his ability as a lawyer, he impressed the Supreme Court judge and at the same time was granted acquittal. One cannot deny the brilliance that Marcos possesses. And with this brilliance, he was able to climb the political ladder and reach heights only a few were able to get to. We could just wonder how can such a brilliant man (like others before him) succumb to power and become so ignorant. In a book it says, “Power changes people, inducing them to pursue selfish ends” (Lee-chai & Bargh 58). Irrefutably, Marcos pursued his own selfish ends, and it was not pretty...

Chai Jing said that “There are some things we know that the effects for improving air pollution is very little if we say it. But just because of the person who say it and do a little things, he can make things become more better and our heart can be relaxed. So looking back the war between the human and the smog, the history just create like that thousands and thousands of ordinary people in this world one day will say “No, I am not satisfied. I do not want to wait, I will no longer to abdicate, I will stand up and do a bit of things! What I would do is just at this moment, right now , right here, is just this body.” Thousands of children are being nurtured; the rivers, the sky, the earth should belong to them. We have responsibility to prove to them an energy to illuminate the world, and the world can be clean and beautiful. In the haze serious, we have at least one thing you can do is to protect yourself and your love. One Child Policy in China

...Every country has its own perks, laws, and history that make it unique all on its own. Different things like slavery in America and Venezuela’s current issue on how the students of that country are fed up with the leaders and are taking a stand are just examples of what shapes a country into what it is today. In china there are many issues that shape it into the populous country it is but one in particular really boomed the way of living in china. The one child policy has become, at least in the west, china’s most controversial family planning policy. During the 1970’s under Mao Tse-thung’s ruling, China’s population was increasing toward a grand total of one billion people. When Mao was ruler, Mao believed that of all things in the world, people are most import. With that being said, Mao at this point had advocated and even rewarded those “model mothers” who would give birth to the most number of children (Chai, 188). After Mao had passed, the next leader would establish the on child policy in 1979. Deng Xiaoping back in 1979 put the one child policy into effect. This was done to limit the population growth in China. The policy strictly allows couples in china to only have one child with a few exceptions in some areas. If couples disobey the law and have a second child, they would be susceptible to heavy large fines. In addition to the fines, they can also lose their jobs and create dishonor on their family name. The thought process behind the one child policy was...

How to Use Chopsticks

...How To Use Chopsticks Will you eat a sandwich with a spoon or use a fork to have an ice cream? No? Why? Because every food, to taste better, must be consumed using the right vessels and cutlery! Same is the case with Chinese and Japanese foods which seem to taste better when eaten with chopsticks. The origin of chopsticks can be dated back to China, around 3000 to 5000 years ago. Widely used in Japan, China, Korea and Vietnam to eat all kinds of foods, most of the chopsticks are made of bamboo while some are also made of ivory, plastic, silver and jade. They are considered as extensions of the fingers and are considered much better than spoons and forks in their usage. Although the respective Asian communities use chopsticks as effortlessly and naturally as Europeans use forks, it doesn’t really come that easily for the rest of us. Despite the fact that most of the world thinks of them as impossible feats, chopsticks actually provides your hands with a physical affinity with the food — something that our quintessential spoons, forks and knives can never boast of. Having said that, we also acknowledge that eating with chopsticks could require some training and hence the next section that talks about how to use chopsticks. Eating With Chopsticks * Clasp one chopstick between your thumb and middle finger. The chopstick must be in such a position that it is placed at the base of your thumb and at the lower joint of the middle finger. While the bottom chopstick remains intact...
